Joey Ramone- Rare recording

Found this on the interwebs- the story from Joey's brother Mickey Leigh:

"One day we drove out to a little studio in Long Island to record a song I know Joey had been dreaming about since we were little kids, Gene Chandler’s “Duke of Earl.” He asked me to play guitar on it. The legendary ‘60s Brooklyn doo-wop band, The Mystics, backed us up. My brother’s love for the song, as well as the music of that era, poured out in his vocal. I love his version, and listen to it often."
(this is from the cassette i walked out of the studio with that day. The producer with the multi-track said it was lost, so that crappy little cassette could be the only copy in existence or, known existence.)

Joey Ramone- 10 Years Gone

There is nothing I could say that would overstate the importance of Joey Ramone to the music that I hold dear to me, the lifestyle I have led and many of the good things in my life. It's a loss that I suspect many of you also feel.

Rest In Peace. I look forward to seeing you on the other side.

Happy Birthday Joey Ramone

Wow, Joey Ramone would have been 59 years old if Lymphoma didn't steal him away from us back in 2001.

Long time readers of this here blog should have a pretty good idea of my love for The Ramones.

Joey Ramone saved my life from middle class suburban tedium way back in the 70's when I first saw them on a rerun of Don Kirshners Rock Concert. It was like a bolt of lightning (or something). I actually felt my young life change... I knew then that there were freaks like me that could get on TV and be rock stars! After all, I sorta looked like a young Joey... all limbs and long black hair and t-shirts and Queens NOO YAWK accent (shitty eyesight too!).

Overnight I went from being a long haired fm radio dweeb to a long haired punk rock loser.

It's been a wacky 30+ years since then... full of sex, intoxicants, hi-jinks and ROCK N ROLL. And I ain't slowing down (much).

This is where it all started for the teenage Nazz:

Thank you Joey!

No Trouble In The Heartland

Feeling good lately. Feelin' 7-up.

Made an executive decision a couple of weeks back to go on a major bender. If this guy can do a never ending tour, than I can turn Pro and just stay wasted for as long as I can. Day 13 of my Charles Bukowski streak. I've gotten past the roadblock of the morning hangover as well... channeling the fogginess into a placid plateau and the interior hummmmmmming sound that encompasses me like a velvet blanket (or something). Work has settled into something akin to Buenos Aires after the Bugs blew it to bits with that giant Asteroid.

Feelin' great in fact. Saw this guy last nite. Yeah, it's all hokey show-biz shtick but the mofo does fucking rock it hard. What is he, 70 years old and he still brings it every freaking nite. Of course, at this point the Jersey girls have morphed into Jersey Grannies; passing Jersey soccer moms about 10 years ago on the road past MILF and possibly now at the GRILF stage.

But, it's all about the rawk... and sposedly, I've got a couple of shows coming up with various pursuits and it looks like we are heading into the studio to record a song for a horror movie.
That would be sweet. Sweeter than the show we are sposed to play at some Lawn Guyland college cover band bar... wait'll they get a load of us!

Plus, shows from dese guys, and dese guys (and gal) on the horizon... I loves me some punk rock.

Ramone Control

It appears that several very important decisions will have to be made very shortly. Life and death shit.

I don't want to deal with any of that right now. I want to listen to the Ramones. The Ramones saved my life. Probably saved your life too.

After all, they made it OK to be me... an untalented, awkward, semi-adolescent, rock n roll loving reject. No matter how low I used to get as a kid, I knew that the Ramones were out there... and if they could survive, so could I.
After all, Joey and I were both from Forest Hills, both goofy, with the same stupid long hair covering our faces, the same ratty jeans and even the same cheap sneakers. And this was before I even knew who the Ramones were!!!!!!!

There was nothing like a Ramones concert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The anticipation of them coming on...the martial drum beat (later it would be the theme for The Good The Bad and The Ugly)...the screams as they took the stage...early on Joey shouting "Yeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh, We Are The Ra-Mones, and this one's calllllllllled the Blitzkrieg Bop take it Dee Dee" and Dee Dee yelling "1-2-3-4". And then of course...CHAOS. Sweet blissful chaos for 70 minutes or so. With maybe a quick 3 minute cool down for "Needles And Pins" and than back to CHAOS.

And then, a couple of encores and it was finished. And the eternal question Ramoned: "What do you do after a Ramones concert?"

I'm getting chills down my spine just typing this.

I really miss the Ramones.

Here's a bunch of tribute songs from some bands that undoubtedly feel the same way as I do.

An Ends To A Means

In the final accounting of the recent travails of the Nomad clan:
  • Kitty Nomad is still hanging on for dear feline life. The tumor on his side has blown wide open, and while it is coverered with a shirt, we know the meds we feed him will soon lose their effectiveness. The vet says that it makes no sense to cut away his flank and sew it up, as the trauma would kill kim. For now, he is still friendly, social, and most importantly, hungry... so we pray that perhaps the 2 inch gaping hole in his side will somehow seal and he can make it through the end of year.
  • Princess Nomad is firmly entrenched with the Twilight series of books. Between that and this, she is as happy as can be hoped for while awaiting the endgame for her pet.
  • Nazz Junior is destroying all comers in Halo and Left For Dead on the XBOX 360. He has also developed an enthusiasm for Johnny Cash music, thanks in part to this movie. Nazz Junior is specifically enamored of The Man In Black's tales of murder, revenge and prison. Like father, like son!
  • The Missus is trying to keep it all together in the face of feline doom. Thankfully, the shock is past, for now the grim waiting game continues.
  • Yours truly is laid up with a bad back. Possibly this has been caused in part by the stress of work and finances. Luckily, a regiment of this and this have enabled him to combat the pain somewhat. Unfortunately, this has caused him to recently engage again in wasted posting. Oops!
On the plus side of the ledger... THE NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS have got the number one seed in the NFL Play-offs.

So, along with the total consciousness the Dali Lama promised me on my deathbed, I've got it all under control. Which is nice.

Or something.

There Ain't No Sanity Clause

More job horrors on the way in '09. I get the word yesterday that the Grim Reaper will be whetting his scythe the first week of the new year. And I will be wearing the robes and wielding the death staff to a friend of mine. As I am discussing this with one of my staff, the prez of our company comes by dressed as Santa with not a care in the fucking world.

Rome burns. Nero fiddles.

As an added bonus, the real Reaper will be paying a visit to the Nomad household soon enough as our beloved cat is on his last days due to cancer. We are hoping he makes it past this weekend (and Princess Nomad's birthday) before we have to put him down.

Merry fucking x-mas.

The Pool of Serenity

My summer solstice resolution is to not add fuel to the argumentative fire. I pledge to just walk away from Ms. Nomad's occasional bouts of verbal onslaughts ... NO MATTER HOW RIGHT I AM!!!!! It might have taken me 20 years to figure it out, but resistance is useless. There is no "win" scenario, at best a Pyhrric victory might be possible. I have a wise older cousin, who has fought the marital wars for longer than I, and he always advised me to just AVOID CONFLICT at all costs.

So... I will walk away when confronted with the chaos that results from two people being married for a looooonnnnggggg time..

Or, drift away. The pool is finally up and running... despite it's best attempts at putting me in the asylum. The leaks in the gaskets have been patched and seem to be holding, amazing what a tube of this stuff can do! At one point last week, after failing to get the deck re-attached, I just gave up and went to mow the lawn and curse the very day that swimming pools were invented; leaving the hard work to Ms. Nomad and Princess Nomad.

Whom of course were able to complete said task with-out Mr. Asshole's help.
I spent the weekend on the Big Daddy float, drinkin' this stuff and listening to Led Fukking Zeppelin.

Sooo, for this summer, it's just beer and frozen drinks and serenity now.
Insanity to come, later.

Happy Birthday Joey Ramone

Today (May 19) would have been Joey Ramone's 57th birthday. The Ramones are my favorite band. I am from the same town as them and my mom actually went to the same high school that Joey did. in fact, the Ramones are more family to me than a band. Actually they are more family to me than alot of my family is!
To say that the Ramones have been an influence on me would be an understatement. In fact, they saved my life. Once I heard the Ramones music, I stepped through a door that (I hope) changed my attitudes toward music, culture and lifestyle for the better.
The Ramones were "my" band. Growing up, I took alot of shit for liking Punk Rock (yeah, so did you I'm sure).
When Joey died, it was one of the three major musical "hits" I've taken. John Lennon's murder (horrible), Jerry Garcia's death (expected) and Joey (just plain sad).
Click on this, and you'll be directed to all of my RAMONES posts. There's alot of songs and live shows to choose from. Happy birthday Joey and Gabba Gabba hey!

Veneratio Thy Matris

"Well, you came into this world naked,
screaming and covered in blood
who was there to wipe you off and give you your first hug?
And it took a couple years to figure out how to not shit in your pants
but someone was there to clean you up and powder off your rash"

With Mother's Day around the corner, Bleedin Out takes time to honor the women who's wombs we sprung forth from. Musta been nice in there, all warm and wet and safe.

And leave a comment! Your mom would want you to!

Go Big Blue! Patriots suck!

New York is all abuzz with the Giants unlikely run towards (hopefully) Super Bowl glory. It'll be a tough job however. The Gay-Triots and Tom (pussy-fuck ) Brady have been (albiet slightly) bloodied but unbowed this season. But you knew that already.

How can anyone root for New England? They've won enough lately. Between the Pats and the Sawx, it seems that all championships are routed through Beantown this century.
Hey, New York can use a break. Between the Cloverfield monster destroying Manhattan, the Yankees steroid scandal and the Mets' choke, we're due for a big win.

And look at the asshole duo of Presidential candidates we've sported: Rudy "Mr. exploit 9-11" Giuliani and Hillary "Plastic Bitch" Clinton. Makes you long for the days of Tricky Dick Nixon.

I am predicting a Giants upset Sunday. 30-23 (that way my numbers hit in my box pool and I make big bucks too). Randy Moss is gonna develop short arms after being smacked down over the middle a couple of times. Tom Brady will actually menstruate on the field and the Big Blue defense will piss all over the previously undefeated Gay-Triots. Brandon Jacobs will stomp the Gay-Triots' defense into bone shards. And Eli will forever be known as just "Eli" (no last names needed) and become the greatest Manning of all. Suck it Peyton.

LET'S GO GIANTS!!!!!!
Here's music from the Ramones. Because the Ramones are from NYC and NYC kicks ass.
