It's Springtime & Maggie Is Dead
As much as you mofo's in the UK are celebrating The Grand Dame's demise, it means jack shit to me. Guess what- in the Olympics of asshole rulers of the free world (1980-2013 division), she doesn't even win the bronze.
Here in the States alone we've had Reagan and Dubya. You're guyz have had Blair. Maggie ain't squeezin' into that triad.
So she invaded an island full of Penguins? Hell, at least she didn't go toe to toe with the Russkies or an entire religion!
Besides, think of all the great songs that you woulda missed out on!!!!!!

Some Music You Should Hear
And it’s time for a record round up. All of the following are heartily recommended, and if you can’t trust your old pal Nazz, then all hope is lost!
The New Rochelles: “It’s New” - The second or third or fifteenth coming of the Ramones. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. 12 songs in 14 minutes. They cop every important aspect of Duh Brudders (same surnames, snappy toonage, whacked out song subjects) without the annoying stuff (oh wait a minute, there is no annoying stuff when it comes to The Ramones !!!!!). Fuckin’ A!
M.O.T.O: Pack Your Troubles In Dreams - Thanks to Brushback at “One Base On An Overthrow for reminding me how good this band is. 30 year vets of the lo-fi garage-punk scene. Funnier than a hemorrhage and the songs stick to you like ebola. Or something. Pick hits: “Satan Always Calls Collect”, “Radio Wall of Phlegm” and “Dance Dance Dance Dance To The Radio”.
The Okmoniks – Party Fever!!! – Cheesy keyboards, hot chick singing. Pure pop for now people. Kinda like the Mummies mate with The Muffs; but not really. Especially since there's only one girl in The Muffs, besides, how would that work... I mean with The Mummies wrappings and everything? Extra points because I think they named their band after the neighbors in ALF.
The Dwarves – The Dwarves Are Born Again: The band that wouldn't die. Advice of the day: “Let’s Get High And Fuck Some Sluts”. It’s The Dwarves. Nuff said.

That Fresh Feeling
It is finally Spring in New York. The long winter of freezing weather, snow and unemployment is over.
2 weeks on the job and digging it. OPENING DAY IN BASEBALL!. Very thankful. OK, so I still have to do my taxes. Big deal.

Code Blue
I dismiss the "celebrity death's come in three" concept; since these daze, EVERYONE is a celebrity.
However, I find it interesting on the parallels and paradoxes on the madness of Farrah, Sky and Jacko.
Each responded to their early celebrity in such iconic ways:
Farrah Fawcett- Could have been completely chewed up ala Marilyn Monroe in the Hollywood bimbo machine. Yet she became a serious, award winning actress. Sure, she got a little loopy in her later years, but no one can say she didn't redeem herself. Cancer fucking sucks, and the way she courageously (and publicly) fought it should not be forgotten or underappreciated.
Sky Saxon - Teen 60's dream Tiger Beat hit-dom. And then a descent into obscurity and most definitely counter culture alt-dom. Ironically, he was about to tour again.
Michael Jackson - Is it even possible to seperate the man from the circus freak? Has anyone besides Elvis ever been as completely twisted by early fame as him? Think of the 10 year old lighting up the stage, not the twisted man-boy of the last 20 years.

Long ago, bands used to need radio airplay to expose their music to the masses. There are dozens of songs that reflect this. Here are a few you may not have that come to mind...
I absolutely love the concept of the Ramones being packaged for the kindergarten set; complete with children singing in the background! When my progeny were tots, one of their favorite movies was Rock N Roll High School. This one is from an album called "Brats On The Beat: Ramones For Kids".
Radio Radio - Beastie Boys w/ Elvis Costello (Live Saturday Nite Live) : The legendary performance when the Beasties came out and started to play Sabotage and Elvis recreated his 1978 SNL performance.
Capital Radio - The Clash (live 5-28-77 UK) : The sound of a revolution. Revolutions don't always succeed.
You Can't Say Crap On The Radio- Stiff Little Fingers : A criminally underrated band.
Do You Remember Rock N Roll Radio - Ni-Hao! : Another Ramones cover, I think these chicks are from Japan or Viet Nam. This song cracks me up.

His aim is still (sorta) true
On the other hand, his adventures in classical music, country, Burt Bachrach and other excursions (and I absolutely hated Imperial Bedroom) have left me cold.
But I suppose you can't blame an artist for branching out, can you?
I haven't seen him play live for many years, but if this show I am posting up today is any indication of what he's putting out there these days, well then, imma gonna have to check him out! This is a show from May 18, 2007 and he's really going way back in the vaults ("Welcome To The Working Week" !, "The Beat" ! "Lovers Walk"!) I had to break it into two parts, since tt's a huge file (32 songs) so be patient whilst it downloads, it's worth the wait.
