Black and Golden Boys
What more (well, aside from THE GIANTS being it it!) could you want for a Super Bowl? Great game that went down to the wire (I wish the Cardinals woulda had another minute to work with). Madden and Summerall on the b-cast. And The Boss doing the halftime thang. Springsteen rocked it, cut down the verses to get more songs in and even did a crotch cam shot.
Congrats to the Pittsburgh Steelers and my Iron-City dwelling pal Al.
Wait till next year! The Giants will be back!

Let's Go Mets!!!!!
Went to the Mets' debacle last nite. Perhaps the last time Nazz jr and I will be at the old stadium in Flushing. Yes, it's a dump, but it's MY dump.
I must have gone to a couple of hundred Mets games at Shea Stadium in my life. Growing up a couple of miles away from the park will let you do that. I remember walking through Flushing Meadow Park back when I was 12 years old to go to games and sit in the upper deck for $1.60. These days, I don't let my kids play outside without watching em. And yet, back in the day, my mom would let me and my pre-teen pals trek a couple of miles to go to games.
I was at the 1986 World Series Game 7, when the Mets beat the Red Sox thanks to a couple of botched Red Sox plays (hooray for Bob Stanley's wild pitch and Bill Buckner allowing Mookie Wilson's grounder to go through the five hole). I actually snuck into the game, but that's a story for another posting.
I also have a big bag full of gen-u-ine Shea Stadium turf (well, it's dead grass and dirt now) from when we stormed the field when they clinched the division back in '86. We actually got written up in the NY newspapers since we jumped onto the netting behind home plate and jumped 20 feet onto the field (amazing how Vodka, Champagne and Valium reduce your inhibitions).
We're down to possibly one game left. The Mets need to beat the Marlins tomorrow and have the Brewers lose. Or, if they both finish with the same record, it's a one game play-off on Monday. So, the Metskies BETTER FREAKIN' WIN!
It was sad to say goodbye last nite. The new park is going to be beautiful (at a cost much higher for tix of course) ... and less seats (to drive up the demand); but will it be home?
Here's a couple of pix from last nite... I have tickets for one of the play-off games, I hope I get to use em!
LET'S GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shuffle To Slave
I feel like beating a puppy to death with a sack full of kittens.
Instead,
With apologies to the good folks at Slave To Shuffle, here's the next five up on the queue with pithy comments included.
Black Sabbath - After Forever - One of those songs from my acid drenched youth. Coming right after "Sweet Leaf", Ozzy sings about the consequences we all face after becoming worm food. Singing about God's payback being a bitch? Maybe Oz got a bit nervous after singing NIB on B.S. 1? Spirituality and a killer bass line from Geezer Butler. Jeezus, Master Of Reality is sooooooo fucking great.
L7 - Hanging On The Telephone -The chicks in L7 had bigger balls than any of the boys in Blondie. And they were all a whole lot hotter than Debbie Harry! Bonus- L7 was a band called "Camel Lips" in John Waters' Serial Mom.
Replacements - Sixteen Blue (outtake from Let It Be sessions) - Big surprise the'Mats came up. Not. Never one of my favorites, but I know alot of the kids identified with this song back in the day. With the ballads, I preferred "Unsatisfied". And "Tommy Gets His Tonsils Out". Yeah, ballads. Or something.
The Jam - That's Entertainment (Live) - A huge hit in England. I loved the frikkin' Jam. Even got to see the band back in the 80's on their last USA tour. " Lights going out and a kick in the balls -That's Entertainment".
AC/DC - Shot Down In Flames - The only AC/DC that matters to me is the Bon Scott version. I respect that they have kept it going, but Brian Johnson has always sounded like he's trying too hard. As a result, his singing comes across as a pale, screeching impersonation of the master. I will always be indebted to AC/DC because, along with the Ramones, I can always figure out how to play their bass lines.

A Musical Train Wreck
On the bright side, if a rotting tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to hear it, does it make a bad sound?
It's a powerfully heady thing, knowing that you have fallen into the gaping maw of suckage and that there is no way out, save just finishing the show and skulking off the stage.

I suppose every band has those nights, but man, it was comically awful. But, I am very thankful to be able to play in a band even under the most absurd circumstances (and it was f#ckloads better than stayin' home and watching the G-Damn Red Sox play in the World Series).
Well, there was nothing left to do but smile smile smile afterwards. So we attempted to drown our sorrows.

And that made for an interesting drive home.
Good thing the cd player had one of those mixes on it that get's ya through the long lonely drive home. I didn't even remember when I made the mix, but one song after another, it kept me coherent and looking forward to what was gonna come on next.

Coked, drunk & stupid is no way to go though life
The tale of Lindsay Lohan gets more pathetic.
I will say this... if I was a 20 year old movie star; with unlimited funds and carte blanche, I'd probably be dead. And most of you would be too. How many times have YOU put yourself in a self destructive situation?
Hell, when I was in my college years I almost cashed in a bunch of times and I was broke most of the time. Luckily, after a few calls too close for comfort (and some a little too recent), I have realized that there is no glory in croaking at an early age. Or, for that matter, going to prison.
I would like to think, however, if I had the money that Hollywood's dumbest has; that I would have hired a freakin' driver to take me around!
Toonage:
Rolling Stones - Stupid Girl
Screeching Weasel - Stupid Girl
Funcadelic - Super Stupid
AC/DC - Have A Drink On Me
Husker Du - Whatcha Drinkin?
