Ascension - Consolamentum

Genre: Black
Country: Germany
Year: 2010

1. Open Hearts
2. Grey Light Sibling
3. Rebellion Flesh
4. Grant Me Light
5. Fire And Faith
6. Amok
7. Angel Of The Burning Sun
8. Consolamentum

Debut album by Ascension. Their sound fits nicely between traditional black metal and more twisted outings such as Deathspell Omega. The production has great atmosphere, but doesn't sacrifice clarity. There is an instantly noticeable atmosphere on the album and the entire album flow has a ritualistic feel. It is a concept album, divided into 5 chapters, dealing with the spiritual journey and transformation of a human soul towards salvation.

Yakuza - Samsara

Genre: Progr. Heavy/Sludge
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2006

1. Cancer Of Industry
2. Plecostomus
3. Monkeytail
4. Transmission Ends… Signal Lost
5. Dishonor
6. 20 Bucks
7. Exterminator
8. Just Say Know
9. Glory Hole
10. Back To The Mountain

3rd album by Yakuza, featuring a number of guests, including Minsk bassist Sanford Parker, pianist Jim Baker, cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm and Mastodon guitarist Troy Sanders. Yakuza’s crucial point is their inclusion of saxophone and clarinet. Some parts sound like classical metal, some parts very chaotic. Blending electric and organic instrumentation is never easy, but Yakuza can maintain an adequate balance of the aggressive, the experimental and the melodic throughout the course of an entire album.

Debut album by Hypnosia. Hyperspeed thrash done to perfection, with sweet lyrics about hatred, violence, cruelty, death and more hatred. Furious screaming vocals similar to Kreator, hyperactive drums, guitars that don’t know when to shut up and are mostly fast and furious, stop and go breaks. The death metal influence is there but overall, this is really a thrash gem.

Skull Hammer - Pay It In Blood

Genre: Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2010

1. Soldier Of Misfortune
2. I Defy

Debut album by Skull Hammer, a thrash trio that keep things simple and effective. They bring in mind a mix of Forbidden, late 80's DRI with a touch of NWOBHM thrown in. You'll be disappointed by the first songs, that are simply average, but then you'll get what Skull Hammer really have to offer to thrash.
