A cool fact I found out about the male House Finch. It gets its red pigment from the food it eats. The more pigment in the food, the redder the male. Also, the females prefers to find the reddest male to mate with. I just put some cranberries out in the feeder to help this guy out. :-0

House finch swinging along!
My goal was to find a feeder small enough to detract the Grackles and Blue jays so that my littler bird friends could eat. I was happy to see this House finch able to eat in peace.

Ladies Lunch - The Cardinal and the House Finch
Today I observed a "Ladies Lunch" with the female Cardinal and female House Finch. The cardinal was already enjoying the sunflower seeds when the finch flew in for a visit. In the second photo you can see the cardinal checking to see who joined her. In the third photo, the finch appears to be checking out her lunch partner too.
