The finished room

I only realised as I was tidying the other day that I hadn't done my finished room reveal! This was started back in November when i bought myself the bookshelves and desk for my birthday.

I eventually got the cupboards for the shelves, so everything is nicely hidden away! (Thanks to sister Jess and her drill fro helping with that job. Think I know what I need next birthday!)

This is DEFINITELY after a tidy up!

The 'vintage kids collection' stash; overlocker storage and 3 channel tv!

Laptop handy for movies, tweeting etc.

The messier corner. a box of patterns, UFO's on top of that, and things that don't seem to fit anywhere else.

A peek at the stash...

It was actually worth tidying it all up, as I got stuck into some overdue projects that night.

De-Stashing

A few weeks ago, I had a friend come and force help me get rid of some of my fabric I wasn't going to use. I've only hung onto it for like, forever! So a giveaway is happening!

I took a few different angles, as you can see there is a fair bit. A range of colours, and some kids prints in there. The rule of the giveaway is

you must be able to either pick up fabric, or be willing to pay the postage.

Email for a postage quote if you want postage, otherwise go ahead and comment!

Edit: I'll draw it a week from posting!

A bit of sewing

Little Miss was whisked away yesterday morning for a sleepover at the beach (Mornington Peninsula), lucky thing. As a thank you I made the brave woman having my child and her friend a chookstop- she loves chickens, and I later found out her kitchen has a blue theme! So it can be used everywhere, really. It could also be a heat bag, it has a combination of rice and an old heat bag's innards, which I've recycled as I don't like the fabric on the heat bag anymore.

While the child was away, mummy will play- at Nonna's house again. This time it was take it all, the leftovers were off to the tip! I was pretty restrained, bringing home a lot of dust, seeing as this was the fabric pile when I walked in....

I brought home the roll of paper she used for patterns (and great for cut and paste, drawing or patterns!); about 6 half rolls of light grey interfacing; and the 2 plastic tubs I filled with fabric and the like.

These cottons are probably never going to be used by me, I got so many last time, so am offering them up to whoever wants them (minus over locker cotton, I'll keep those ones, sorry!)

and I scored some great patterns, of course, being the pattern slut I am. Have to shift some on, probably all my baby ones I don't use so I can keep collecting vintage dresses etc.

There is still the Yamato overlocker and Consew industrial machine they are umming and ahhing over; I found the manuals online last night, and now I am umming and ahhing over them!
Off to sew before pick up time. Oh, watched this last night, great flick, and filmed in the good old western suburbs!

Treasures for the Stash

I recently went to my friend's mother-in-law's house, 'Nonna', who passed away recently. After years sewing in a factory, she then bought the machines and sewed from home. It was a room like nothing I'd seen- an overwhelming stash of fabrics, notions and dust!
Some fabric came home with me, as did these haby items- a bag of buttons in hundreds of little bags, that filled a tin!

A bag of elastic and I chose a few threads.

And I'm yet to put away the stash of zips.

I feel very lucky to have 'inherited' all this, and hope I put it to good use! First stop is a home made bag with some fabric from Nonna to say thank you to my friend.....
Also on today's plan is folding the rest of these vintage sheets, and finishing cutting some up for the vintage sheet swap.....

as everything is looking so good in their shelves.

Day 11 Blogtoberfest

I couldn't resist this shot of my sleeping baby- with her Babushka Baby
she scored at the market. It has now joined "Cubby" from Australia Zoo as her new best friend.
(She is normally allowed a pillowcase, I have just forgotten for a week or so to put one on)

A big stash has been moved into the lounge room, in preparation for 'Fabric Utopia'

which will occur in this hallway. Watch this space.....
I hope to have it done for Saturday- I'm having a little Crafternoon at my joint (it might just be sitting around a big stash of fabric, though). Bloggers meeting bloggers and eating and crafting- if this sounds like your cup of tea (that will be supplied, but you may need to make you own if I'm busy chatting) email me for further instructions.

Hopefully this new top will be finished, sick leave is for resting and Dr's visits, so some relaxing sewing is on the agenda today- with a nap, hopefully.

Today's project

I would love to show my sewing project for the day, I do have one, but I thought if I put this down, I would HAVE to do it. You know how when you clean up sometimes you shove everything in a cupboard and deal with it later? Well, I did it yesterday and now have to put all this back...
It is all my sewing stuff that is now blocking entry to my built in wardrobes (if it didn't, I would be tempted to leave it there. I can get to my bed, it is most important. The dining room/sewing room looks lovely and is in the middle of a spring clean. An ambitious project for me.
