Don't know what's wrong with me!

Years and years and years ago, before I started being obsessed with sewing, I used to bake and cook a lot. I think once I realised sewing stuck around a bit longer (and there were no dirty dishes) I preferred it, and I went for quick and easy meals.

We're off to my sister's tonight for dinner, and I offered to bring sticky date pudding. Often I offer to bring something, then run out of time as I chose another activity, buying something on the way there! (C'mon, who hasn't done that before?) Today I had the sudden urge to cook!

2 sticky date cakes (will turn into puddings when I make the butterscotch sauce from scratch!)
Choc chip cookies- I wanted to make half with walnuts, and half without so the kid could take them to school, when she suggested choc chip and Craisin! Obviously she wants to eat all of them at school haha

and some multi-tasking; while these were in the oven, I was

browning some Marylands for a slow cooker dinner- FOR TOMORROW NIGHT! Argggh, I've turned into a meal planner! Hope it's only a one off haha. People may accuse me of reading Mummy blogs haha.

mmm, chicken curry!

Never fear, there has been sewing. And before you think 'wow, how does she do it?'- reminder, I am a sole parent who's child sleeps from 8pm on wards; I got to bed at 11pm; and now on weekends she plays in her room, requesting 'space' (as long I remember to feed her at intervals). Amazing how much time you can find in the day!

The Zakka book has a sew along I thought I'd join in on, they do a project a week, so I had a bit of time to catch up (3 weeks in). I don't think I'll be making much in linen, just looking to use up the stash a bit. And make buying the book worthwhile by using it! *shamefully hangs my head when I think about all the books I have*

Couch time cross stitching;

and a new do!

Off to do the stinking dishes haha

stuff again (for lack of an imaginative title)

It's been busy at the 'Sauras house, hence the forgetting to blog! But I have a few things to show off, starting with this baby! My Xmas present to me! Remember the rise and fall of this one? I found this for $15 at Salvo's (yep, I spend big for me) AND it has a removable insert, something the other one was lacking (and a pain in the butt to wash!) And this colour is pretty groovy, yay, more corned beef for me and my pal!

The kid has finished Grade 1, and phew, glad that last week is over and done with. Another big plastic tub of school work to hoard away haha. She brought home this great 'star' for the tree- how cool is that? It does look a bit like it's blowing raspberries at you, but so cute and clever. So whoever says they don't 'do' anything in the last week at school- here you go!

And tonight's job? To see if I can whip up 2 Tulip dresses by Monday! Halfway there with the tracing the pattern, cutting and prepping. And I'm doing 2 different sizes, with the same linings! Expect a catastrophe. I am using my directional mermaids again........and yep, have already re-cut the bodice pieces! (I blame ER on DVD for distracting me with John Stamos).

And my fabric from the other day has been put to good use, a little tote or 'manbag', lined with a nice green stripe. Unfortunately Little Miss decided she didn't want to give the music teacher a present after all, I just realised I have BIL's Xmas present, yay!

Lucky girl

My Little Miss woke up to a surprise this morning- a late night of TV meant I finished off the slooowww craft, and turned it into a cushion (that was much quicker!). Don't look too close, I didn't wash it and there's a nice big grey pencil mark on it!

I backed it in rare red chenille, one of the harder ones to come by. This piece is a bit faded,
but I figure it'll be under the window, and fading looks good, I think- very vintage!
If you like the design, DMC have a few in that range, I'm thinking of getting the owl and love birds....because she needs more cross stitch cushions!

flannel flowers cushion is upside down!

And my poor slow cooker-a lovely piece of corned beef was nearly done, as I went to turn it (I know you are supposed to leave them, but I was going to bed, and wasn't sure if it should stay hot overnight) when I dropped the lid- onto the bench! Little bits of glass flew about- the corned beef was saved, and cut off all the outer bits in case of glass. Cam got half, she was confident I got it all!

I'm now on the lookout for a new lid. Anyone know where I can get one?

My week

Ok, it's been good! Stick through the post, you'll go "WOW'. (I hope, anyway). My only problem is I have pics out of day order, but heh, I've decided I'm a half-perfectionist, like it for some stuff, don't care for others. I guess the most recent got first dibs!
So my Liverpool dress is done, this was actually a toile, thought I'd wear it around the house- heehee, it may be seen this weekend!

I also did this one- it's a bit big! The measurments are from size 2-size 20, and I measured between 12-14. I thought i'd cut it on a 14- then you find the sizes are double, ie 2/4, 6/8, 10/12, 14/18, 18/20! It's nice and roomy for layering, though. And I lurve this sheet.

Tonight I'm throwing together a lunchbag to show 'n tell at S.I.T, can't get tired of sewing great fabrics, can you? This one may be up for a swap or something, not sure yet.

Tuesday (and this is where i'm out of order) I caught up with Tracey and we hit the Nanna craft mett up, I had a ball! Cups of tea were 20c, and this wool was for taking. I scored the granny squares too, which might become pin cushions or pockets or something. There were a few dirty jokes in there too, so you have to have your wits about you at those shindigs.

Lastly, in all the drama of the week with my father, and his being ordered to leave my house, I forgot to show you the gold I scored off my Grandma- cool, huh? I have found the manual, too, it's under Rival in Google, if anyone is looking for it! And 'slow cooker' reveals more than 'crock pot', I found! (Despite the front of the machine's hint)

So that's it for now, back to the machine and more sewing, I'm loving finally getting back into it and ignoring the chores!
And if anyone is ever whinging their swap item is late, I haven't recieved mine for S.I.T yet,
and I need it for tomorrow night!
