Makin' Stuff

So here are a few things I've been working on, in my few spare hrs.
My Happy Campers quilt is coming along, pieced 4 blocks, hmm, already 1 to un-pick!

The (ridiculous reason for a ) Public Holiday yesterday saw me bake- finally! Haven't in years, and remembered why I don't- so much effort, 3 loads in the dishwasher, and me exhausted! But worth it as I make my way through 3/4 of a lemon meringue pie! I haven't lost the art.....

My friend Sarah is cursing me for lending her this book, and she's been makin' a gorgeous quilt! In the meantime, I get her scraps- pretty happy about that, purple Liberty!

And there's the usual breakfast, lunch and dinner, but that's not very interesting, is it?

Gotta love a party

Yesterday was one of those really cool days- market, b'day lunch and vintage finds! Throw in some cake, and serious S&B, and what a perfect balmy Saturday!

Here were my scores....great earrings that matched my turquoise jacket, and will also look great with purple

and heading back to Cathy's for cake and coffee bought me this loot- literally, they were for sale, and on my wish list!

I started the new Dortje pants, and cute out the patterns for the next items. My free big roll of pink paper has come into play- perfect for adding seam allowances. It isn't thick enough to use with a rotary cutter, but I can hang them- perfect when I want to make lots of them!

A little suprise came in the post this week- Eleesa sent me this gorgeous pin cushion, so well stuffed!!! Vintage tea towel, button and I'm in heaven!

Last but not least- bare bulbs are covered, a trip to Bunnings with a lighting expert friend (me ole neighbour Wal) and we have shades! A bit boring for me....what do you suggest?

It's coming along

I have to brag about my extra clever little one, and the 'big girl' thing she did today. She received a ColesMyer gift voucher for her birthday, and it has been burning a hole in her pocket! She saw the electric toothbrush the other night at Coles, and we agreed she could by that (a luxury, not a necessity!). Hmm, but what else?
We went down to Officeworks (where you can also the cards) and she picked out the green frog pen that lights up, an exercise book for Grade 1 homework (too cute!), then it was on to Coles, where she got the toothbrush and a pack of cards to play Go Fish. All that for $20! And change as well. She got 2 receipts as well, and swiped the card and entered the pin number herself. How grown up!

My project a day is coming along so far, easy as I'm on holidays, I suppose. This is the apron I promised Sarah, due to the cute fabric.
I'm definitely not used to working with directional prints, another upside down one.

looks great with the shower cap!

Sad news- I am hoping some 'find me' thoughts will be sent over here, my beautiful ring I bought for my b'day has gone missing! It's lost, maybe in the house, maybe somewhere else, either way it may take a long time to find it. If anyone knows magic, please wiggle their nose and help me find it, it's pretty special and I don't think I could afford another one!

Celebrity

I know someone famous. She lives 2 doors away, and has become my closest friend. And she modeled once.
Check her out- the one having her hair pulled out to the side.

and posing in the pink sweater. The thing I like the most is that is has combined my favourite things- craft, knitting, vintage magazines and my friend!!

This is the edition- a stand alone save copy, but then to have been featured in it....ahh, the envy.

I thought I'd add the page of Handy hints for the time, 1983 that is. Click on image to see closer. I won't spoil it and give any away, but let me know if you end up using any hints haha.

So I though I'd better show you what she looks like now- still modeling, not professionally anymore, but the shower cap I made her for Christmas!

Love you Sarah!!

Xmas snaps

I finally set the tree up, now the birthday is over. I put it on top of the table, and it's taller than me! I love the lights, first thing I put on when I get home from work.
The red chenille gave me a bunting idea....more to come, it's not as finished as I'd like.

I finally put this one together- a pattern from Handmade, Vliesofix and an hr, just have to sew around it now. And make the skirt. Not much.

I passed on the gingerbread man bug to my neighbour, Sarah. She took it a bit further and did this! Stick + spray paint + tin foil = cool tree! I'm glad my swap partner liked hers as well!

I am getting very lucky with the embroidery/tapestries lately too. I found all this handmade white bedlinen? that looks hand embroidered, and the small ones. Lots of ideas for reusing. I can't believe the quality of the items- the lace around the edges is hand sewn on, lots of pillowcases and bolster cushion covers (long tubes with embroidery either end). Maybe this was an unwanted gift?

Off to the market today, hmm, what will we come home with?
