But wait, there's more!

I mentioned yesterday I'd come back and show you the 'special' items from our Daylesford/Bendigo day trip.

I scored this chenille bedspread at the MS shop in great condition for...$6.50! Unheard of in Melbourne oppys.
I have a few baby quilts to make, this will be good for the back (of the girl's ones)

Close up of the pattern in the middle

My sister found this panel of 'Alice in Wonderland' fabric at the Lark sale

while I was over scoring this amazing Magic Roundabout bedspread. such an amazing vintage piece! (there is a remade version of this show, but the original is always the best)!

I also found this circus themed barkcloth looking piece, a curtain. Amazing, isn't this? It will be hard to cut into this!

And a new nightie- she picked the sheep fabric a while ago for pj's, but loved the nightie idea. If only we'd bought enough for long sleeves!

don't know what happened with the colour!

It really is the best pj pattern!

Another day trip

So our third day trip/car drive this week was courtesy of my sister, who has a new car and wanted to hit Bendigo for this. Thank God I got to be a passenger for once! Bendigo sure put the weather on today, too, thanks!

I gifted my sister her 'horsey Tova top' after she saw this in my stash. It was immediately worn, and declared fantastic (yay!)

We went up via Lark in Daylesford first, to take advantage of The Sale. The MS shop next door was open too, apparently not usually open on a Saturday, hence me not checking it out before!

The tags read$1.50 per sheet, and $2 for the fabric on top. A chenille bedspread I'll photograph tomorrow was $6.50! anyone who purchased got a bunny or 2 fro free (over breeding of stuffed bunnies in that shop teehee)

The Lark sale increased the fabric stash, vintage and modern (yep Amy Butler and Denyse Schmidt made an appearance at $5 a piece!

a few more larger pieces to photograph tomorrow in the daylight, too.

After the exhibition we hit the town for a late lunch (it takes about an hour to get through the exhibition. You must book, it's very popular!)

Both ridiculously photogenic!

The book was a huge hit, I hop it becomes dog eared and well read! The whole exhibition was perfect for Little Miss, she had a million questions I luckily had help answering, and it's given her things to Google when she's bored!

Ridiculously huge meals, too!

Ahhh, tourist stuff!

Get you're butt up there to check it out!

Op Shopping

I either haven't been op shopping, gotten good bargains or remembered to post them on here, but today I made sure I did!
I was lamenting after the last post over the fact I'm running out of vintage sheets, especially big ones.  ! went to 2 oppy's today (Salvo's and Vinnies) where it's all tending to be modern and expensive. So I dropped into a few smaller ones on the way home, and got luckier.

A few paleish ones, and the orange beauty, which is flannelette;

and this one. Not sure how vintage it is, but it yelled out to me, so I grabbed it
for a few bucks.

A hounds tooth cap for $2, a mug (for a pincushion) and a few patterns;

and this was definitely NOT staying on the rack. Not for $8!!!

It has a beautiful thick purple satin lining, delish!

Very happy with my haul! Now the washing (and soaking) begins!

Made in Blueberry?

So I started to sew it all together last night, couldn't work out at first what was wrong with this section (stand on your head if you aren't sure teehee). As it was a scrap/ from the stash quilt I didn't want to buy any fabric, so I have used 2 different types of white fabric- one was earmarked for another quilt, and one from the stash.

I think I love it now. Wasn't sure with all the peicing, was it balanced etc, but when I stand back, I'm happy, and that's all that matters, isn't it?

She was a pretty good helper with this one, my Little Miss, she wrote on all the pink post-it notes I use to keep track of the different sections! I was thinking of using this as a couch quilt, but as you can see by the size, it may need a bed!

I couldn't let this one go when I dropped into the oppy today to look for shirts for work. Chenille? Tick. Coloured pattern? tick. $10? Priceless!

It's huge, def in too good condition to cut up, another bed cover! I sure bowed down to the op shop God's for this one, I feel I've been waiting my whole life (ok, a few years) for one like this!

I had a visit with Nikki as well, and will show you what Auntie Wilma gave her when I get a chance!

Op shop score.

I went and gave blood again today, and generally feel very proud of myself. It's so easy I don't know why I think I'll chicken out- the people there are LOVELY, free snacks after, and I found out new news today- they are really low on Anti D, which many women (including myself) need after they have their babies (among other things). So I'm going back in a month to donate plasma. I have a few friends that really need our help, so I'm doing whatever I can!

Afterwards I thought I'd treat myself to the op shop- and was greatly rewarded- the op shop gods were happy with me!

Books (am continuing to collect Richard Scarry, more for me now) and groovy runners I have admired before, for $6 they were in my basket!

Vintage Pyrex, zips and buttons, a pattern too for a friend.

Buttons were in my fave colour, not sure where they are going yet.

a (practically) new hoodie for the girl, and a t shirt for me!
Half price t shirt means it was $1.50.

Want a closer look? Pristine condition, size 20 Bonds tee (will fit for a while, I HOPE!)
I love the band aids on the guitarists fingers- such a tough look, as is all that blow dried hair! I was a huge fan, still am. Ahhh, happy days!

blogtoberfest day 21

I left it too late to post last night, so thought i'd better do it earlier tonight!

Thought i'd share my oppy gains I got today.

A vintage plate for $6....

to go with the smaller one I already had!

and.....ta da! 2 Jamie Oliver's hardcovers for $4.75 each. To add to the collection of cookbooks I might feel like using one day. At least 99% of them are op shopped!

A spot of oppying was what I needed after (gladly) joining in on Cam's roller coaster today- see over here for her amazing story, and over here to sign up to be one of the angels that gives life. (And tell your family too!)

blogtoberfest day 6

Only day 6???I have heaps more still in me teehee

Today I got a sneaky oppy jaunt in, on the excuse of dropping some items left at work (babies clothes)
I picked  up (clockwise) a new doggy blankie; vintage sheet top (after trying it on at home found it it was kid's size- ouch!); belt; 3/4 pants (had to go up in size- double ouch); and and a knit dress/top for the kid.

Oppy goodness

I don't think I've posted any oppy goodness for a while, I try and do it on Sundays to join in Flea Market Finds, but I forget what I've gotten by then, so I don't do it!

Today's haul was a goodun'; 2 oppy's on my lunch break gave me a pretty good haul.

The Tupperware container was $4, perfect for taking my milk to work with my plunger and coffee in a bag; Smiggle pencil case for $2 (I'm the kids hero now); new wallet; vintage tablecloth; massive bag of zips for $5 and not in the pic is a bag of patchwork fabrics for $5; and a retro Dymo labeller for....$0.99!

Lovely!

A very productive day

I was going a bit bonkers during my week off looking after the poxy kid, so my young pal said she'd come for a play! Blog land is the only place an old bird like me would make friends with a spring chicken like B Fab!

She came bearing gifts (the best kind of friend ha ha). A slightly used but about to be thrown out cutting mat! Too long for my table, but practically perfect in every way!

we didn't muck around and quickly set up the machines.

A beautiful winter's day....the sun called us outside....

to the backyard of quilting! My old neighbour Wal came and repaired the table for me,
and we couldn't resist the sun. I needed sunglasses!

We got 2 cot sized quilts basted, and then did some machining.

Fresh cupcakes made by Little Miss and I

and a little trip to the oppy, or a 'tea break' as we like to call it. B-Fab spotted
these Ken Done placemats, perfect to go with....

my other set! Ah, the genius that is Ken Done!

Thanks, Brianna, for braving the pox and hanging us with us girls for the day.

Yay!

Gosh, I thought blogging would be slow, I didn't know how slow! The PC decided it was time for retirement, and just stopped working one day about 2 weeks ago. So my new laptop is fitting in nicely, enjoying being moved around the house, and being super fast I'm surprised! Plus, there's something about 'new', isn't there?

So, 2 weeks must have full of stuff other than on the computer, right? I kept up with a few friends through Twitter; apologies if I'm repeating myself to them!

I finished the custom orders for Carly, the skirts are seen over at her blog. Keep an eye on her blog for better pics of her in the dress (hemming has made a difference!).

( lining )

The pattern, for interest, is New Look 6910, of which I'm about to make a semi-formal version for my sister's wedding next Saturday. Nothing like a deadline haha.

I also finished my version of a 'stacked coin' quilt. Basically tried to use up some scraps! With a scrappy binding, of course! I've been lucky enough to receive a lot of these 'gourmet' scraps as pressies!

I don't think I'll ever get a corner so perfect again!!

I found the brown fabric at - surprise surprise - the op shop! A few metres, it is a slightly open weave, but the colour was great. Pink gingham sheeting for the background. Cheap and cheerful!

 ( binding)

Just perfect!
