All zig zaggy.

There are some bubba's coming up (great news for quilters in case you haven't heard it haha) and I wanted to try out some zig zags again (or 'chevrons' as they are also known). Looking back, I think my sewing has sure improved in 5years!

The fabrics are mainly from Spotlight's 'Organic' range (meterage on special at the moment). I used the Fat Quarters, mixed with some cream and purple Homespun, and some Sarah Fielke spots.

Either way you look at it, it looks good in my opinion!

I started it last weekend, and had the top finished in a weekend; I took it to Quilt Guild on Friday night, and thought I finished the quilting; I added more yesterday. I like the double effect now I've tried it.

I backed with chenille, mainly as I'm trying to use up some in the stash; this one is thicker than most, and it has a join in the middle; my batting it also pieces joined together, so I'm not very happy with the quilting over the thickness of the fabric. But it is so soft and will be great for a floor mat, and only us quilter's would notice I think (and probably politely saying nothing haha)

  Mmm, zig zaggy!

Stay tuned- I've no idea if the intended recipient would like this, so I'm going to do a 2nd one in a different colourway, and offer a choice!

A while between posts.

Oops, time is getting away from me! Have finished a few projects off this week.

It this one, unfortunately our of print but still on Ebay or Etsy (Butterick 4758 if you're interested). It's like a Tardis bag, fits in heaps! And the fabric is from this range, picked up at the Lark sale the other week.

another cross stitch finished;

I stopped off here last Friday for a quick look; visiting the Ballarat Patchwork stand was way too tempting for me (a bright treat in a sea of beige is my thinking). Emma and her mum were run off their feet!

Jodie had to miss out due to her run of bad luck, but check out her little display!

I got all inspired to finish these babies off. With 3 new baby's on the way, I made 2
of these for my sister to give out, and 1 for our cousin.

 Pattern is from here

chenille backing;

and a close up of the binding; yellow on yellow

purple sheet on purple;

and pink on pink.

Hope the little bubbas love them too!

blogtoberfest day 27

So, even though it's 10 days later, I haven't rehashed a post from 10 days ago- I've added to it!
I bought a new camera (yay!) and can show you the middle cushion.

Yep, I have as much scrap denim as chenille- finally they meet and provide comfort- ahhhh!

and yay for me continuing to Blogtoberfest despite the serious handicap of no camera!

blogtoberfest day 17

I decided a few weeeks ago the couch needed new cushion covers.
As you do.
So the old ones have been off and the nude cushions are getting and bit chilly.

They're a bit brighter than I thought or wanted.....love this style over here....

but I got six backs out of denim off cuts.....four fronts to go!

Please excuse late night iPhone pics.....full time work and broken camera are the only excuses I have!

new jarmie job!

I loved this style of pj's the minute I saw them, all the ones I've made have had plackets and
buttons, boring (and surprisingly time consuming!) These were done in about 2 hrs all up (Taking out all the starting and stopping!)
Lara kindly lent me the pattern and these are a size 6- they fit her- just! I'll call them
spring pj's- very thin flannette sheeting! I've picked up the pattern in the next lot of sizes from
Ebay, yay!

And she's happily wearing them to bed!!

As surprise gift today- a beautiful purple chenille double bedspread, my friend was very proud
of the bargain she got!

And another major event today- the "Bathing Of The Dog". After making and having to cancel
the last few appts at the 'Salon', I chucked him the bath today, and came out soooo white!

Now we have to try to keep him this clean in the mud bath out the back!

Phew!

It's finished! months of...prep work, yeah, I'll call it that. For a final sewing frenzy and finished in a week!
This is me, after making the $%&%^&% bed (day beds look good, but they are a pain to make, believe me!)

And the best pic I could at night- fresh sheets, new quilt, happy girl child! She really wanted it finished for last night, but I couldn't get the binding finished during the day (read- too much nagging for food etc)

I'm not happy, of course- the turquoise squares have run! I think I dyed them, a while ago now. Some of the orange has run a bit too. Oh, well, we'll see what it looks like after a few more washes! Oh, the backing is blue chenille, as in the last post.

Have to show off this funny bent needle- it had no help making it this shape, I promise!

And a little nostalgia- the first quilt I made my baby, before I knew it was a girl. All cross stitched by me, then sewn on the old Janome. Polar fleece backing. Lots of baby spew on this quilt, there was!

out and about

A bit of out and about crafting this weekend. A visit to Castlemaine, Daylesford and of course, Daylesford Bazaar. Oh, yes, Lark too. A few of my pencil rolls are left, as run and snap them up!
Even Little Miss loves this shop- "there are just so many cute things here, mum!" She said loudly. Then she wondered why someone told her she was cute!
I pick up these beauties....

and the bedspread on the left. The one on the right is from Savers a few weeks ago, $5.99 for a Queen size one. The one of the left is double for $25 (reduced from $50!) So 2 for $30, I think!

We picked up a couple of cards and this book- better late than never! Heading over to
Curlypop's tomorrow to get her to autograph it for me haha

Had to go to Spotlight- another post on the mermaid fabric coming up! But look what i found- chook fabric! $6 a metre. wouldn't they make great soft toys? or a chook stop? Endless possibilities! My friend's mum loves these, and I'd love to make her something, as she was so good to Little Miss. All depends if I'm good enough to be spoken to again, I suppose!
Also got one of these- my first craft was this, and Little Miss thought she'd give it a try-
she will have to get in quick! It's fun!

Happy week of crafting!

A busy week

Well, I can hardly blame having nothing to do, can I? it's been pretty busy, and lots of crafting so here goes the latest.....
oh, warning, lots of pics! But not necessarily in the right order, which should prove a bit fun!
Here is the new doggy coat, for my cold little friend. Cute, huh?

Yep, made out of 2 acrylic, old jumpers, and I just traced it off an old one that he tore off! (A bit girly, maybe?)

have bought some great chenille pieces, this person is still having a sale, a great seller too.

I swapped some chenille with Selina, too, isn't it all gorgeous (I assume you are all nodding, yes, Bec, it's great).

Saturday of this long weekend saw me at the Sister's Market, little Miss in tow and getting a bit excited when we saw these- my pencil rolls on the Lark stand! Cool!

We also popped into The Olive Grove, and picked up a little cat for her, and a brooch for me. What an amazing store, all handmade and original, check it out!

we also got Little Miss a pair of arm warmers at the Sisters Market (see, told you I'd keep you on your toes!). Little Miss picked them out herself, and wore them until they got too hot, so cute. So now we both have a pair!

Oh, here's me on a Saturday night- DVD on and sewing away on Little Miss's new quilt. You like the honesty, right?

Saturday I headed along to the MMQG, where my machine had a spack attack and decided to not work. So I dropped it off to sewing machine hospital on the way home, and yep, the timing is out and it needs a service. Which has gone up in price from 6 mths ago. Brother! (No, still loyal Janome fan, do like a certain Bernina though). I did meet this machine, though, which is a lot cheaper and so cute to boot!
So I'm using my back up machine, the one I learnt on, my mum's old one. Freaky, can't even find a good description online!

The holiday Monday was spent with 2 little 6.5yr olds at the movies- very funny, and great closure! Can't get bored after 4 of these movies, something new each time, so definitely do it. #D was great, but if you have a child (like mine) who takes the glasses off, then complains about a headache, save the $3!
Food- have been watching Masterchef, and cooked soup this week. But i wanted to leave you with my child's dinner choice tonight- chosen at the supermarket, she requested chips too, but we already had them at lunch, so fish and salad it was! I'm pretty lucky....

Have a great week!

Forever and a day

is how long it has taken me to do this post. The computer is having some senior moments, and I think the nursing home is imminent. But here goes(....under pressure of maybe being the last post for ?how long)
I noticed the other night my cat has an orange dot on the top of her head. I hadn't noticed it before- every time I touch it, she pushes her head up in the catty way- I keep going 'toot-toot' when I touch it too. When do you think this would be annoying her?

A need for hoodies has driven me to quite a few oppies this week. Among the benefits (vintage sheets and bedspreads, haby) are these cool little numbers

this one (not technically a hoodie but a warm coat) needs some embellishing, yo yo's needed I think!

I also got this skirt with a ribbed waistband- just what every girl needs, a sheep skirt! Now it is stash skirt!

Some more fabrics/ bed linen/ doily

These arrived in the mail after my Paypal account paid for them (really a swap with the stuff I sold on Ebay, right?)

And I have wanted something Ken Done for ages- I had an amazing doona cover when I was younger, wish I still had it! Something being made out of this. And the brightest chenille I've seen that I didn't dye.

Finally, I have finished my little girls quilt, started at Sewjourn and finished in a week! Cheating included- over locking all pieces together (chenille is VERY fray-ey, annoyingly so0 and machine stitching binding on. I love the look. Haven't sewn the corners perfect, but I like it like this. Backing and binding picked by little one.

So, my busy week off work comes to a close. I am now trying to (still) unpack and get everything in it's place, a heap of washing to sort and put away has once again overtaken the couch, so I will answer....for 1 night anyway.
