Op shop score.

I went and gave blood again today, and generally feel very proud of myself. It's so easy I don't know why I think I'll chicken out- the people there are LOVELY, free snacks after, and I found out new news today- they are really low on Anti D, which many women (including myself) need after they have their babies (among other things). So I'm going back in a month to donate plasma. I have a few friends that really need our help, so I'm doing whatever I can!

Afterwards I thought I'd treat myself to the op shop- and was greatly rewarded- the op shop gods were happy with me!

Books (am continuing to collect Richard Scarry, more for me now) and groovy runners I have admired before, for $6 they were in my basket!

Vintage Pyrex, zips and buttons, a pattern too for a friend.

Buttons were in my fave colour, not sure where they are going yet.

a (practically) new hoodie for the girl, and a t shirt for me!
Half price t shirt means it was $1.50.

Want a closer look? Pristine condition, size 20 Bonds tee (will fit for a while, I HOPE!)
I love the band aids on the guitarists fingers- such a tough look, as is all that blow dried hair! I was a huge fan, still am. Ahhh, happy days!

Treasures for the Stash

I recently went to my friend's mother-in-law's house, 'Nonna', who passed away recently. After years sewing in a factory, she then bought the machines and sewed from home. It was a room like nothing I'd seen- an overwhelming stash of fabrics, notions and dust!
Some fabric came home with me, as did these haby items- a bag of buttons in hundreds of little bags, that filled a tin!

A bag of elastic and I chose a few threads.

And I'm yet to put away the stash of zips.

I feel very lucky to have 'inherited' all this, and hope I put it to good use! First stop is a home made bag with some fabric from Nonna to say thank you to my friend.....
Also on today's plan is folding the rest of these vintage sheets, and finishing cutting some up for the vintage sheet swap.....

as everything is looking so good in their shelves.

Swaps and stuff

The Polka Dot Swap has been huge fun, I'm about to send my parcel off, so can't post a spoiler pic, but look what I received today- gorgeous, isn't she? Little Miss and I squabbling over her at the moment. Thanks GB! (Don"t you think she looks like Katie Holmes? GB, not my doll!).

I got this groovy mag today. Here's my friend Fi's stuff- does she ever stop? Here as well.... (she made Pepper!)

And on a different page, completely different article- my phone cover! Well, an I-Pod/ i phone cover, does mine nicely in chenille. Hmm... this is becoming a habit.

So, technically I have SAVED money by buying the magazine, as I have MADE a phone cover, rather than BUYING one- makes sense to me!
And I have all those things to make with buttons!

Easy like a Sunday....

I've employed a button sorter, she works for chewing gum and often leaves the job half finished, but we are getting on ok.

I dropped into Spotlight to get some cotton/lycra for leggings, got some spotty stretch remnant, a cotton seersucker remnant (that is screaming out BAG to me), and a few buckles reduced. Oh, and the green magnet pin cushion, to go with the pink one! I LURVE these things, so cheap ($2.99 as opposed to the Clover $13) and great at finding strays on the floor (before the vacuum finds them).

I unpicked a cardigan AGAIN and started this pram cover, nice green and just what I feel like at the moment, over my fabric frenzy and either want to sew or knit, not sort and decide.

Mmm, comfort food, who would have thought cauliflower could taste good, with carrot, pasta and a white sauce.

Hope you had a relaxing, indulgent Sunday too!

New dress

I have finally finished the dress, finished it last night but it looked terrible on the hanger, so waited until tonight for a try-on. And a twirl! I know it's picky, but it's pulling a bit across the collar bones- I can just get the zipper done up too, will be do some adjusting in a few weeks! But she loves it, which is great.
Due to my massive vintage button collection, I refuse to buy them anymore, and so they are all mismatched, and I used double on the sleeves- I quite like, a bit of a feature I think. Little miss is caling it her "Holly Hobbie" dress.
Now I have finished the fun stuff, the boring ironing awaits, and I am turning flat sheets into fitted. Magic!
