Blogtoberfest Day 12

So another working week has come to a close. 5 full days again, and the usual full time parenting thing. 2nd week in a row, and I'm pooped! Tomorrow is a full day with the Melbourne Modern Quilt Guild, where I'll get to meet Rita, ((I'm a bit nervous though!) and see her skills in action  - plus test out this.

I've heard good things- I think it means I'll be able to see better as I'm quilting, and do zigzags etc

I'll be quilting this one- better leave the cat at home! Why are they such suckers for clean white folded fabric?

 So I promise a picture heavy post tomorrow!

Long weekends.....

We Aussies love a long weekend, don't we? Actually, anyone that doesn't is a bit odd. I usually don't have plans for the long weekends, I've usually run out of money, but I've started to love pottering around at home for them; a sewing room will help with that!

Saturday morning had The Kid helping her uncle at Essendon Farmer's Market on his Happy Fruit stall; that brought us home some yummy Green Eggs and Nicolas olives. Got to be happy with that!

However, by the afternoon, the 'mozzie' bites Little Miss thought she had were spreading; they were itchy, and a call to Nurse On Call confirmed my tentative guess- Chicken Pox! She's having a mild dose, there isn't much itching or other signs of illness; but unfortunately a contagious disease means we are housebound for a bit longer. I'm confronted all the time in my professional role with idiots people who don't immunise their children, for their own beliefs, not taking in to account the effect on the child. These people spend the whole pregnancy doing the best for the baby, to then expose them for the rest of their to preventable illness! Yes, they may still get the illness, but the effects are so much less. I truly believe those parents needs to tour the hospitals and see the effects on the kids before they are allowed to non immunise!

Sorry, rant over!

So we have had forts; Enid Blyton story Cd's on constant repeat (Curious Connie is SUCH a pain);

getting everything out but not finding 'anything to do';

 and lots of silly message-bot notes.

The other family member is causing just as much fuss. I woke this morning to find the sewing room
on its way to being trashed....

only to find the 'Guardian of The Stash' flat out at work. She had knocked the doily box over in
 her efforts to get to the vintage pile!

Using part of the vintage stash also causes lots of fun- bunny kicks and crazy eyes! What have I created??????

The Hat

So I finally made this pattern up.....

 and Curlypops added some brooches

it was worn all day

so I guessed she liked it!

And an early Easter present (as in waking her before I went to bed on Good Friday to
show her my skills haha)

the cat literally ripped it out of my hands!

Happy Easter everyone!

W.I.P

This ole thing? A work in progress? Well, yes, doesn't everything you make or own have the ability to be revamped?
I made this when Little Miss was about 3 (nearly 4 yrs ago). I patiently (and not so patiently) knitted and un-knitted, it all started with the blue and yellow balls, can't remember where from. I sewed them all together, added some chenille down the sides (to make it single bed sized- wasn't knitting ANY MORE squares) and a chenille bedspread backing. Embellishing with doiles and knitted flowers. Now this was in my beginner days of quilting, so I thought I'd add some binding....

EEEKKK! Yep, don't know why I thought THAT looked good. So for the last few years
I've out up with it, until today!

I unpicked and took the whole binding off, and trimmed it right down.

My assistant was it's usual pain in the butt- "yes, Ace, my sewing table is a bed, as it has Little Miss's quilt on it, you are soooo smart!" Every time I lifted her off, back on she jumped.

When I went to re-attach the binding, it was no too short- joining the pieces properly to do mitred corners left it too short. Crap! Better look in the stash for.....

the exact same fabric! Yep, that's why I have a stash, folks!
I'll be back to show you the finished binding later!

Testing, testing.....

Ok, there is something weird going on with blogger, it's refused for 2 days now to let me post any pics of the quilts I finished for Cam.
So some pics of what I've been doing, actually, random shots to see if this post works!
baking cookies (and eating them);

playing tag with the Venus cat trap;

and funny notes again on the child's door. Oh, I knock or just come in and wait?
What good options!

Ice Cream Social- and pets

A warning in the title- if you have no idea what it's about, read on. If you do, read on. So cute, I promise!
First off the Little Miss modelled for me today- there were a few more shots, but they are MIA on the computer somewhere (dammit!). She LOVES it, I'm so pleased. It's a size 8, fits her well, with room to grow.

I had this fabric in the stash- kid's curtains from the oppy, weird, huh? What's with the fried eggs? then I remembered my friend's little girl's 5th b'day next week and thought, hmm, Ice Cream Social- what a combination!

See? Told you. Cute!

This is the top, in a size 5, which I think will still fit her in summer (I hope). Otherwise
it will brighten up a dreary Sydney winter with a thermal underneath!

And now the pets- crazy. This is the space they leave me in the sewing room. If the dog is in, the cat gets jealous, and she actually did a roll onto her back when I pulled out the camera! They play 'chasings' on the floorboards, pretty funny, and are now outside having a play. The kids will never all be in bed at the same time, I guess!

Lazy weekend

It's been a quiet one around here this weekend, gloomy weather and a gloomy head has mean I've got to be busy!! So yesterday I pulled out the big pile of knitting needles and made them a little (big) cozy. A few were culled, don't worry!

Ahh, order has been restored!

Love it!

Today I finally put the dining table to it's proper use! A few things were cut and gotten ready for an evening in the sewing room.

Ms Ace and Little Miss were busy, doing this and that, girl child
snapped this one-
whatever!

If your head is feeling a bit gloomy too, try here or here.

It was another busy sewing filled Saturday- the first meeting of MMQG! There are more pics over at the site, typical I forgot to take snaps! The show and tell was great, a walk to Vic markets for yummy lunch, some sewing, and a well-behaved child all made for a fun day. And Little Miss's interest in babies makes me hope there is a midwife in the making....

My busy Saturday night was filled with sorting out my scraps- how can I make a scrappy quilt if I dread looking through them? This has made it easier, and looking quite pretty! And cost $24! Cheap and tidy.

Now I have a lovely old suitcase to fill with other goodies!

And some gratuitous shots of the fur babies- my chenille cat.....(such good taste)

and happy dog. After a bath, a play and a treat, a cuddle on the lounge watching a DVD- a movie about dogs!

Hope you had a crafty, fun weekend too!

Heatstroke

Like the rest of Melbourne, we have been just surviving the heat...last night was particularly hot, had a cockroach run over me, must have been desperate for a drink and my sweaty body fit the bill- erk! I can't get enough of my cute cat- she just flops anywhere, usually UNDER the fan, which doesn't really make sense to me.

The dog has been liking his doggy icy poles (frozen bones) and they both like ice cubes in there water, so I'm like an ice factory at the moment.
I found Little Miss like this before I went to bed last night- wet tea towel on her back, curled up because she was cold! Fan was going, too. At least she slept (grr).....

and to beat the heat, or at least distract myself, I've been sewing. I finished this top, that was also over here.
Hmm, honeycomb seersucker, think it was from an oppy, good choice I thought. Snapped before the hair brushing and during breakfast!

I've also made another one of these, for a fellow blogger. I'm much happier with this version- I used batting, better interfacing, red chenille lining....mmm, it's pretty nice. Just send me your address, Gina, and it's yours! Just because.....

Today is all about freezing our buts off in air con- ten pin bowling then a shopping centre, I think. Ice cream for sure!
