HoneyBee Showcase - Chevron patterns - June 8th

Happy Wednesday, and welcome to the hive!  Today's challenge is inspired by PaperCraft Magazine's layout on Chevrons... and Judy gave us a good kick start on Monday with her Motivational... so here are some more goodies from the HoneyBees to sweeten your day!
                                                           *************************
I love this tone-on-tone orange chevron paper from Echo Park's "a walk in the PARK" collection.  (Cut sizes and all materials listed here.)

My card was created with My Mind's Eye "Quite Contrary" papers.  These papers are double-sided, have a light texture, and are a nice weight. I loved working with these papers! They emboss beautifully too.  I used a chevron pattern for her umbrella, and polka dot patterns for her rain coat, the sentiment, and other backgrounds.  I also used my Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder by Provo Craft on the large polka dot pattern paper.

Other supplies:
My Favorite Things
Pure Innocence
 "My Umbrella" stamp set
copic markers: YG95, E00, E21, E29, C3, G28
Spellbinders Nestibilities circles & squares dies
SU word window punch, label punch, and dimensionals
paper piercer
Bazzill card stock

Brief tutorial: I cut a 12x12 sheet of dark green Bazzill card stock into 4"x12" (I made 3 cards like this one). Score at 4", 6", and 8". Create a mountain fold in the center. On one side of the mountain (2"x4" rectangle), place some strong double-sided tape. I like to use photo tape or red-line tape. Adhere down. Now decorate as desired!

You can alter the dimensions. If you have 8 1/2" x 11" card stock, try cutting it in half (4 1/4" x 11"). Then score at 4 1/4" and 6 3/8".

Now give it a try!

Do you have chevron patterns in your stash?  I had more than I realized.  But you can also create your own with a sewing machine (zig zag stitches).  Another idea is to use a decorative corner punch:  arrange punch outs in a mountain/valley pattern across your paper.  I am enamored with chevrons now :)

********************

You would think with the hundreds of papers and cardstock I have, I would find a chevron design!  Nothing even close, except I did find in my ColorBok Punch-Out Pack a ric-rac border that I thought would make a good substitute. This is a Father's Day card for my son, Jeff.  I am so proud of him for being such a great dad to Nina and Ian.

********************

My chevron was handmade with this striped paper set from the Happy Day (2008) paper pack by Imaginisce.  I cut the 12 inch strip of paper, and then laid it on my paper trimmer at the angle I wanted, and cut the ends, making sure to flip the paper over so I got alternating points.  Touch the edges together and tape on the  back.  VOILA'... a chevron!
Add a couple more embellies from Imaginisce, and it's ready to bring a smile to someone's face!

Betty Brett

****************

Look who sneaking in the backdoor ........me of course.....sorry HoneyBees.
I chose to do the Zig-Zag technique from Technique Junkies on my card this week, just added a simple sentiment so as not to hide the pattern.
Used Stampin-Up card stock, striped paper K&CO, stamp Autumn Leaves.

Beth Ullman

***************
Now it's YOUR turn!  Pull out your paper, and look for those jaunty angles, cut squares to make those points, or find a super stripe, and create your own... then create a card, layout, home decor piece, altered item, or whatever you are inspired to design... and share it right here!  These pieces are HOT, HOT, HOT!!!

I made my card with regular striped paper cut on the diagonal both ways to make the Chevron pattern.  I added little rhinestones on the points and stamped your number one.  I'll be giving this to my Dad.  He checks my blog often so I won't be posting this card until after Father's Day..  I really want it to be a surprise for him...

HoneyBee Courtney Lee reporting for Monday Motivation!

Good Monday morning to all of you!

This week I am doing the tutorial here at Betty Bee's Buzz! And in honor of her new grandbaby Paisley being born, we are having a baby week. So play along in the baby challenge and you never know what could be up for grabs! :) You can make ANYTHING baby, but I will give it my extra love if it has a onesie somewhere on it! :)

Instructions:

(If you have a Gypsy, weld the two together at the top and ignore step 1)
  1. Using Wall Decor and More™ cut two onesies out at 4" out of Butter cardstock.
  2. Next cut one onesie with the swirl detail out of Summer Fun at 4". Adhere to card base.
  3. Ink around edges of card.
  4. Stamp "Pure Joy" and the little foot from My Pink Stamper's Sweet Baby™ set in Momento ink.
  5. Cut 2 one inch butterflies from Cake Basics™ (or any butterfly blackout or shadow cut - or punch for that matter!).
  6. Add white stones using your i-rock™ to the center of the butterflies.
  7. Ink edges.
  8. Bend edges up around the i-rock™ stones making the wings upright.
  9. Adhere one of the butterflies to the mini clothespin and the other one to the onesie.
  10. Take two buttons and use twine to thread through the holes from the back and tie a bow in the front. Trim extra length off.
  11. Using Glue Arts Extreme Adhesive Squares™, attach one to each button back and adhere to card.
  12. Send the card to a friend!

Buzz, Brag, and Bee Happy - April 1

Welcome to this week's BUZZ, BRAG and BEE HAPPY FRIDAY!  It's wonderful to have Rosemary back with us!  There is some very happy stuff in the hive this week!!

Welcome to Buzz Brag And Bee Happy Friday!!!

Well, I finally got a project done!! It felt good getting into my scraproom and playing with my stash. I have been wanting to use my Imaginisce magnets that I purchased and never used. While visiting Target, I found the cutest journal on sale for under $3.00. The book is canvas and such a cool print that I didn't want to cover it up. I did a search and found the idea for the flower magnet book closure, but no matter how many times I looked at the YouTube video, I just wasn't getting it to work. So, I came up my own method and it works!..The flowers are glued to the magnet and then the magnet is glued to the book. It took a few tries with ribbon and found the lighter ribbon works best. I did a decorative cover inside to hide the ribbon and everything is secure. So, do the Ns look a little funky? They should. I didn't have any Ns, so I used a couple Ms and cut them..I think it works with the album..lol..

Inside the journal I will help Nina set it up to be more than just a journal. When we were at the Mall, she found a journal that had comments for her to answer..Cool and very fun. So, I cut a few mats for photos. Example would be her photo on the first page. She can write 'me' and give the color of her hair, eyes, etc. There will be a page for anyone she wants listed and also questions like her favorite song, book, colors..whatever..This should be fun working with her to get it started. Hopefully, I can get a photo once the pages get filled in some.

INTRODUCING .............
With this being Buzz, Brag and BEE HAPPY, how could I be any happier than bringing you this post? I am so delighted to introduce you to my newest granddaughter, Miss Paisley Ann!
Is there anything any cuter than baby feet?  (This photo is especially for my Mom, who always checks out the tiny toes right away!)
Porter was just precious waiting and waiting to meet his brand new little sister...  she was out being bathed, and getting a check up when he got to the hospital, so he had to wait so paitently....
Here she comes!!  He brought her a soft, chenille bunny.
A tender, sweet first kiss from a loving big brother.  He is SO good with her.
 Tender moments with Aunt Tori.
Here I am meeting our sweet girl for the first time.  She is such an easy going baby!
Porter brought her a flower!
*******************************************
I've created a couple of cards this week, but those can wait for the next post.   I hope you are enjoying some happy moments in your life.  Treasure your family and friends.  Tell them that you love them...
Stand for what you believe in, and make a difference in the lives of others.
Rest in Peace, Master Ken Ellis, a friend and teacher, whose life was cut short this week.

Monday Motivational 2/28 ~ It's A Frame Up!

Welcome to the hive!  To highlight something very special you put it in a frame!   This week we will be looking at different ways to frame your favorite photos!  Here's Rosemary ....

Welcome to Monday Motivational!!..So glad you are here to see what I have to share with you today.

Last week I spent several days with my HoneyBee sisters where we shared a 3 bedroom condo.  Each of us was asked to bring a project for all to do, and I thought of a picture frame.  I knew there would be a group photo and thought how fun it would be to design a frame to put that photo in.

I found the perfect frame at Michael's and bought each HoneyBee one for their project.  I also brought with me a selection of different papers, punches, Nestabilities and my Mother's Day Bouquet cartridge, but the project was not restricted to use just those things I brought with me.  Each HoneyBee was to create their own frame to whatever design they wanted, and use whatever they needed to get the look they wanted.  I love how everyone brought so much to share.

For my frame, I used DCWV Linen Closet card stock.  The leaves were cut with my Sizzix die using paint chips I picked up at Home Depot.  The branches were punched with my Martha Stewart punch and I used my I-Top and card stock for the centers. Added flowers to the outside of the frame are from Wild Orchid.

Here is a close up of the corner cluster.

Don't you just love that paper?!! On the top of my list for favorite tools has got to be the I-Top

We had no idea where the time was going and we wanted to do as much as we could.  I had seen some beautiful frames getting worked on so I'm excited to check back on Wednesday to see the finished projects!  Please stop back and see what our HoneyBees have done!!

Don't forget that we are looking for Guest Designer HoneyBees!  If you have an idea for a project to share, see the information on the sidebar, and send us the information at BettyBeesBuzz@hotmail.com.  You could be the next HoneyBee!!

Happy crafting ~

Honeybee Courtney Lee excited to say I HAVE MET THE HONEYBEES!

Things I learned about our sweet honeybees:

Queen Bee Betty Bee is so sweet!
Joon (June) has a laugh that warms my little heart.
Wanda is an amazing cook! (Thanks again, girl!)
Roe is a crack up! As my husband just said after she dropped us off, "Did she just say 'legit'?" And I said, "Yes, yes she did."
Kristi is just as funny as Roe and you get the two together and then the giggle-fest begins!
And ALL of them function incredibly on a surprisingly small amount of sleep!

Beth, I need to meet you girl!

All in all, I had a FABULOUS time. I tried a bunch of new products that I haven't tried before (these ladies came well stocked in scrapping supplies)!

Thank you SO much to the Honeybees for having this swarm! I had a blast and love you all!

We're an incredibly honest bunch and would LOVE to help you out with anything/ tell you about ourselves so you can get to know us as well as we now know each other! HoneyBee Showcase ~ from Sunny Florida!

Well, we've been buzzing all about it for quite a while now, and we are finally here!  The HoneyBees are swarming together in a beautiful resort in sunny Florida ~ right next door to the Mouse House!   We have been having a fabulous time together.  Each girl brought a different project to share with all of the others, so we've been laughing, learning, laughing, eating, laughing, crafting, laughing, not much sleeping, laughing, and... you get the picture!!!
Let us share with you a few of the Bee-utiful things we brought to share!!!

YuDu and I-Rock blinged out T-Shirts!!

Did I mention food???  Wanda is feeding us gourmet yummies, like this Macadamia Chicken!  And Doug's MmmMmmMmm good Smokersaurus Barbecued Pulled Pork...    Oh, my goodness!!

Bees Betty, June and Kristi are enjoying some major giggles!

These candy filled bags with stamped and colored toppers were waiting to greet all of the HoneyBees!  The images were from Close to My Heart, and the 1x8 fold top envelopes are from Clear Bags.

We shared all sorts of talents with one another... here Rosemary is giving someone a brand new hairstyle!  Can you guess who it is?  Did you know Roe is a hairdresser?

We had all kinds of fun games, tutorials, and projects going on... Here are our commemorative Root Beer Float mugs!

Each HoneyBee learned about working with vinyl and worked with the Make The Cut program.  Then we etched the design and our names into the mugs... before filling with ice cream and root beer!  Remember what I said about eating!!!

Here is a little clearer picture of the design.  It says "HoneyBee Retreat" curved across the top, and "Orlando, Florida, Feb. 2011" curved underneath.  Then each girl put her name wherever she wanted it.  They turned out really well!

Wanda made these precious little Bee Babies, which were little pillow pals waiting on our beds the first night :)

And our very dear friend, Judy Ford, sent these trash hoppers (or really terrific candy hoppers!!) that she made especially for the HoneyBees!!!  What a hunny of a thing to do, and we love her a lot.  We also send our prayers to her grandson, who is in the hospital right now.  Get well, Jackson!

Here is Court helping in the kitchen :)

Here is her presentation on our super cute T-shirts!

"Honey Bee Courtney Lee here showing you what I made for the Honey Bees at our swarm yesterday and today in Florida!

I AM SO EXCITED TO MEET THE HONEY BEES!!! A HUGE thank you to Betty Bee (Our Queen Bee) for putting this together, Roe has been working on it as well, June flew down for it, and Wanda is cooking! Kristi will make an appearance and Beth can't make it, but she will be there in spirit in our little hive! They all built their scheduling of this around me and I am just so honored and so tickled pink!

I used EAD Designs vinyl on my Yudu to pull this off! I tried another vinyl, but it didn't work out as well. I thought all vinyl was created equal, but I have been proven wrong. I LOVE EAD

The bees are from the Sentimentals Cartridge™ and the font is from Birthday Bash™.

The Honey Bees will be decorating their t-shirts with the i-rock and gems from Imaginisce™. I hope they like them!

Now I am buzzing off to play with the honey bees in our little Florida hive!"

********
June created a special card to share with you for this week, too!

June Houck
Good morning! I am buzzzzing with delight at spending time with my fellow HoneyBees. We are having a grand time laughing and crafting together in sunny Florida. Crafting friends are the best...so much fun and we can bee free to create. So of course our theme this week is all about the bees :)
I actually enjoyed fussy cutting the hexagon patterned BasicGrey Urban Prairie papers. The little bee stamp and sentiment are by Stampendous. I stamped directly on my grosgrain ribbon. I forget to use that technique; it works pretty well, don't you think?

Hexed again! I could not stop with one card. You know I had to use the scraps to make another card.
*********

That's it for tonight... the hive is quiet right now, but I'm sure the buzzing will begin again soon, with another wonderful day of friendship, fun, and sharing.  May you have a wonderful experience with each of these today, too. We'll be back on Friday with more pictures, and more projects!!

Your challenge this week is to create something with a BEE on it!  The tutorial on Monday had a great idea on how to make some, and there are lots of stamps, digital images, die cuts, papers, ribbons, and tons of other BEE-dazzling ideas out there!  Create one, and come back to post it here!   One out of every five entrants will win a specially designed HoneyBee charm!

Watch for exciting news from the Hive on Friday!!!    And don't forget about the Blog Candy for February... you have a few more days to leave comments and particpate in the challenges to be eligible!  You could even be a double winner.... blog honey AND a HoneyBee charm, if you are the busy bee who wins!  Good luck!
Happy crafting~
