HoneyBee Showcase

From the HoneyBees and myself, we wish each of you a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and hope that you and yours are enjoying this holiday season to it's fullest.

Many thanks to June for a very informative tutorial for our Monday Motivational! We all love the extra pizzazz that heat embossing brings to our projects. With very little effort it turns a good piece into one with that WOW factor!

I hope that you don't mind that mine are pieces that are revisited from Christmases past.... as my craft studio is a VERY BUSY guest room at this time. I've picked three of my past favorites to share with you, and look forward to bringing you fresh new ones after the first of the year.
If you are interested in the "how to's" be sure to pop over to my personal blog for the info.
Merry Christmas!

I made a card that I wanted to share with all our visitors so that I can wish you all A Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
**************************************

This Sizzix die can be used for Christmas, as the playful seal balances a Christmas Tree on his nose, or throughout the year with whatever is appropriate in play :)

Heat Embossing the sentiment inside makes creating a special card for someone especially easy!

Wishing each of you the very Merriest Christmas, and we will see you here in the hive
in the New Year! Happy Holidays!!

Now it's your turn! We want to see what you heat emboss! Create something and showcase it right here with the HoneyBees!! Post your card, layout, home decor piece, altered item, gift, or whatever you make, here in the LINKZ. You could be our next BLOG CANDY winner for January!!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Monday Motivational - Heat Embossing & Glitter

Wishing you lots of joy this Christmas season! June has a great tutorial for you today! It will work for fabulous last minute Christmas cards, extraordinary Birthday Cards, and terrific tags! If you are doing layouts of your Happy Holidays, these beautiful touches would make WOW pages, too! Here's June ....................

Gold heat embossing and glitter go together like peanut butter and chocolate. I think it really dresses up this beautiful "JOY" stamp. Ready for a quick tutorial to get you motivated this Monday morning?

June Houck

Supplies
  • stamp and papers of your choosing
  • gold pigment ink and gold embossing powder
  • glitter glue (or art glue and fine art glitter)
  1. Stamp and emboss image on white card stock.
  2. Add glitter to specific areas one color at a time (e.g. silver dots on J and Y); allow drying time in between colors. After dots are dry, glitter holly leaves. After leaves are dry, glitter holly berries.
  3. Mount on metallic paper for extra "pop". I used a red metallic paper and a gold moire.

This is one of my favorite holiday cards to make. Metallic papers are tricky to photograph, but I hope you are inspired to try this technique to spruce up your stamped art work :)

The rest of the HoneyBees will be here on Wednesday to post their take on today's Monday Motivational. It would be lovely if you have time to participate and link your heat embossed/glitter accent projects!

HoneyBee Showcase - Resist Images

Happy Wednesday! I hope you couldn't "resist" June's Monday Motivation on how to use heat embossing, clear embossing powder, and some ink to create some gorgeous designs! Today the HoneyBees are just buzzing about their new creations! Take a look :)

I decided to use June's awesome post as inspiration to do something subtle with resisting using heat embossing. My resist is where I inked over where the sentiment is, leaving it bright in the center, where the "so" is. I hope you enjoy it! :) Here is the link to my blog post!

I am so excited to show you my first card using the resist technique!..A big thank you to HoneyBee June for the great tutorial and push to try something new.

For the stamping part of my card, I used Art Gone Wild glossy paper. My pear stamp is from Just for Fun and I thought it would work well for the colors I wanted to work with. After stamping, I embossed it with Custer's Last Stamp detail gold embossing power. First, I used Tim Holtz Spiced Marmalade distress ink and made circular motions with his ink pad squares on the holder ( I know it has a name..lol). Then I used Walnut Stain distress ink and did the same thing over the first color,.and went back and forth a couple of times until I got the look I wanted. Finished the edges with Staz-On ink. I then took a paper towel and rubbed over the embossing to remove any ink that was covering up the gold. I used DCWV for the card and Core'dinations cardstock for the mat. Cuttlebug Polka Dots embossing folder was used along with Prima and Wild Orchards flowers. For the border on the card, I used Fiskars Treading Water punch. For a little added dimension, I curled thin strips of the brown cardstock.

This was so easy to do and I love how creative you can be doing this. There are no two the same, which means there are no mistakes!..Love it!!

Wasn't June's tutorial on Monday fantastic? Hope you will join us HoneyBees and show us your take on the tutorial. Mine is not as pretty as June's, as I need to do some more practicing!

Not sure this was the right stamp for this tut, but it is one of my favorites. It is made by Stampabilities. Paper is from Stampin-Up and I used vintage photo distress ink on my background. It really did turn out nicely after all :)

I just couldn't resist! I followed June's tutorial, and created a fall card with clear heat embossing on patterned Imaginisce paper, and let the pattern shine through brayered dark ink! What fun this was!!

The details and raised image make it a delightful way to create a very interesting texture and shine!

Now it's your turn! Use any resist technique... ours, or another of your choosing, and come back to share your creation right here at the BeeHive! Post the URL of your post at INLINKZ below. You will be entered into the BLOG CANDY drawing to be held very late next Monday night! (There is a 30 day ending to our LINKZ postings, but our blog candy give away is next week).
Happy creating, and we'll see you back here on Friday with BUZZ, BRAG, and GOOD NEWS!

How can you Resist? It's Monday Motivation!!!

Welcome to our second edition of Motivation Monday! I have a tutorial that I hope you find irresistible :)

I am June Houck and I have a resist technique to share with you. For this technique, you need:
  • a solid stamp image
  • patterned paper
  • VersaMark watermark pad
  • clear embossing powder
  • heat gun
  • coordinating dark dye ink pad
  • brayer
  • tissue or old rag

Tutorial:
  1. Stamp image with VersaMark watermark stamp pad and heat emboss with clear embossing powder.
  2. With dark ink brayer over your embossed image.
  3. Rub off excess ink with a tissue or old rag.
Tip #1:
My rubber stamp has 3 pears. The pear on the left is the most detailed and the pear on the right is the least detailed. I think this technique works best with stamps that are less detailed.

Tip #2:
This was my first attempt at the resist technique:
I stamped on hand-made paper and the black ink resisted the silver flowers in the hand-made paper.

Other resist techniques:
  • Stamp and emboss images on glossy paper, then using a rainbow pad and brayer over the embossed images to create a background.
  • Stamp images on white card stock with black Stazon ink. Using a white crayon, add doodles or hi-lights to the images. Sponge color(s) over images...the crayon will resist!

I hope you found some inspiration here today. Maybe this technique is new for you, or maybe you tried it years ago and are inspired to try it again. Either way, please share your thoughts. I would love to hear from you!
.............................................................

Fun technique, huh? We'll be back on Wednesday with the HoneyBee Showcase, so you can see what the HoneyBees have done with June's tutorial. What will you create? We want to see your designs and creations!
Also, don't forget that we have a honey of a box of blog candy going out to one of you!! Just become one of our followers, and leave a comment on our posts. We will pick a random winner from all of the entries on November 15th (late!)! The more comments you leave on all of our posts (since we started!!) the more chances you have! Good luck!

Have a great day!
