Book Review: "The Restorer's Journey" by Sharon Hinck

When a foreign threat invades their comfortable home, Susan and Jake soon find themselves drawn back through the portal to the world of the People of the Verses. Now Susan will struggle to love a people who have become her captors, while Jake suffers a tragic betrayal and discovers his destiny as the next Restorer. I'm still not a fantasy fan but this is one series that I have enjoyed thoroughly. This is mainly due to Sharon Hinck's writing and her ability to suck you into the story even if you are totally unfamiliar with the genre, like myself. The story picks up right where The Restorer's Son left off it's a shocker right from the beginning. Two from the other world have now come into our world and the Mitchell family has to figure out a way to get them out. Mishap and mayhem occur as Mark, Susan and Jake do their best to return to Lyric. I would have liked a bit more time seeing how the outsiders fared in our world but it's not really an issue. When returni...

This story tells her tell about how she has to break out of the darkness and step back into the light, one step at a time. As someone who has been in a situation similar to Penny's, I could totally understand why she reacted and kept acting the way she did. You don't want to relive the event, yet it's always there haunting you. It's very traumatizing and it takes a long time for you get over it. Therefore I could relate to her and could see how just the small lists s...

Book Review: "The Restorer's Son" by Sharon Hinck

Great fantasy for non fantasy readers Susan and Mark thought that life could go back to normal after they returned through the portal back to their own world. But then they realized that their son Jake has now gone into the world of the Lyric and they have to go back to get him. Now the role of the Restorer has been bestowed upon Kieran, who's not too please with his new responsibilities. It takes a personal battle with the One before he realizes the job he must do in order to save his people. Will he be able to protect the People of the Verses and help Susan and Mark find their son? Like I've said before, fantasy is a genre I don't normally read. I have a great imagination but outside of Star Wars, Narnia, or LOTR I'm not too good with imaginary worlds. However, this series has totally bridged the gap between women's fiction and fantasy allowing the two audiences to enjoy the story. With a modern female lead character, the audience is able to relate to both the ...

Book Review: "The Restorer" by Sharon Hinck

Mom-Lit Fantasy Susan Mitchell was just enjoying time away from her family by relaxing in her new attic hideaway created by her husband. But then suddenly she is transported to a different world where she finds that not only does she heal very fast but she's been sent as The Restorer to help out those in trouble. Susan has to learn the ways of the new world as she tries to understand the new culture and learn as to why she'd been sent. The adventures she will face bring many dangers but Susan learns that her faith will help her win the fight in the upcoming battles. Fantasy is a genre I don't normally read. It's not that I don't like it, I just have trouble getting into a story where it doesn't relate to what I live in. I'm not saying I don't have an imagination, I just prefer stories that seem more realistic. But when I saw Sharon Hinck had a fantasy/mom lit book coming out, I wanted to pick it up because I really enjoy her writing. I ended up ...

Book Review: "The Secret Life of Becky Miller" by Sharon Hinck

It's Supermom to the Rescue! When I'm facing a tough situation, I often use my overactive imagination to pretend I'm someone else. Maybe I'm Princess Leia taking on Darth Vader (what if??) or I'm a medieval princess disguised as a boy fighting in a battle. Then I worry that I'm too old to pretend these things. So to my delight, I was happy to read about a mom who does the exact same thing. Becky Miller is SAHM (stay at home mom) with 3 kids and a loving husband. She wants to be the perfect wife and mother but things don't always turn out that way, causing her to picture herself in dire situations as a astronaut, gymnast or the next Mother Teresa. She's also juggling finishing up her degree and being in charge of the women's program at church, while meeting with her small group once a week. Then her life turns upside down when her husband loses his job, the church wants someone else to run HER program and a magazine wants to feature her as ...
