Book Review: "The Fine Art of Insincerity" by Angela Hunt

Image
Summary from BN.com: Three grown Southern sisters have ten marriages between them—and more loom on the horizon—when Ginger, the eldest, wonders if she’s the only one who hasn’t inherited what their family calls “the Grandma Gene”: the tendency to like the casualness of courtship better than the intimacy of marriage. Could it be that her two sisters are fated to serially marry, just like their seven-times wed grandmother, Mrs. Lillian Irene Harper Winslow Goldstein Carey James Bobrinski Gordon George? It takes a “girls only” weekend, closing up Grandma’s treasured beach house for the last time, for the sisters to really unpack their family baggage, examine their relationship DNA, and discover the true legacy their much-marrying grandmother left behind . . . Angela Hunt has always been one of my go to authors ever since I started reading Christian fiction. What I love about her books is that even though they are written from a Christian perspective, she tackles subjects that aren't...

Book Review: "Magdalene" by Angela Hunt

Image
The controversial woman with a past only one Man could forgive. A true love story that changed the face of history. "I was Miryam of Magdala, seller of fine fabrics and wife of Yaakov the fisherman. With my husband and son, I held a place of honor among my countrymen until a company of rogue soldiers took everything from me. I might not be Roman, but I knew injustice when I saw it. And I had been most grievously wronged." In an era when women are sequestered and silenced, Miryam of Magdala lives a contended life until her son's careless gesture evokes a hostile action that shatters her serenity. With no hope of justice, Miryam commits and unthinkable act and descends into depths of darkness that threaten her life and her sanity. Even after Yeshua the Messiah dramatically restores her life, Miryam can neither forget nor forgive unresolved injustices. Prodded by a hunger for vengeance she will not deny, this woman of uncommon courage risks her life and her heart by dra...

Angela Hunt's Best Work Ever Jennifer Graham has now started to settle down in Mt Dora and in the Fairlawn Funeral Home. She's even started to take embalming classes to help out with the business. However just when she thinks life is quieting down, she meets a newcomer in the town with a startling revelation that changes her life. With this new information, Jennifer vows to help out McLane while her husband is overseas. Meanwhile McLane's father is trying to find her, and bring her back to him. When Jennifer finds out the reasons why McLane left her father, it shakes up her world and her way of thinking. When reading an Angela Hunt book, one must be prepared for two things. The first is that the reader will be entertained with quirky characters, intriguing plot lines and snappy dialogue. The second is that the reader will come away completely blown away by what they have just finished reading. Their thought process will have changed by the story and one starts seeing...

Book Review: "Doesn't She Look Natural" by Angela Hunt

Imagine sharing your house with dead bodies below you Jennifer Graham was working as an aid for one of the top senators in the country. But her life is soon changed when her husband divorces her and she has to take custody of their two sons and move in with her mother. Funds are getting low without the support from her ex-husband. Just when Jennifer's about to give up, she learns that she's the recipient of the most unusual inheritance. A distant relative has left her the Fairlawn Funeral Home in small town Florida. Jennifer uproots her family from the big city to go see what she can salvage from this deal. Once they get to their new destination, they soon learn how their lives will be changed forever. This was one of the most interesting concepts I had heard for a book. A story set in a funeral home? Two things came to mind: "My Girl" and every horror movie about dead people. Luckily this book was more the former than the latter. Jennifer was definitely...

Book Review: "The Nativity Story- A Novel" by Angela Hunt and Book Giveaway

Image
O Come O Come Emmanuel Yesterday I wrote my review on the movie "The Nativity Story." Today is my book review on the novelization by Angela Hunt. I read the book before watching the movie so I went to the film knowing a lot of what was going to happen. If I thought the movie made the familiar characters more human and real, the book does even more so. The book adds to the movie script and includes more scenes that help to develop the characters. Mary is seen as caught between childhood and becoming a married women. We feel her struggle as she has to leave her old life behind. The reader is taken to understand what she went through after the angel told her what was going to happen to her. Since in the Bible, we don't hear a lot about Joseph what is written here shows him as an understanding and devout man. He loves Mary and wants to take care of her and the baby even though it will not be his completely. I enjoyed the research that went on towards the writing of th...

Book Review: "Uncharted" by Angela Hunt

Image
"Water water everywhere and not a drop to drink" Wow, this book just blew me away. The back of the novel says "A blend of the movie "Castaway" and "The Big Chill" with a touch of the television series "Lost"" thrown in with the parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man. Yes that perfectly describes this book. I won't give away the ending but this is one of those books that you will think about long after you've finished it. The characters all seem to have two sides to their personalities. The two that stuck out the most to me were Mark and Lisa. At first these two appear to be complete opposites. Then it's revealed that really the two are exactly alike. Interesting to think also that just thinking about doing something is the same as actually doing it. This book also makes me wonder...is this what is going to happen on "Lost"? Angela Hunt is one of my favorite authors and proves again that she deserves to be. Unch...
