UPDATED: All the Bears

There's a story to be unpicked somewhere about all the following characters and, right now, I'm not sure how it all hangs together so I just need to start somewhere by working out all the instances of the character appearances that I've found so far.

The characters are Star BearsScare Bears and Were Bears...

UPDATE (01/05/26): Here's a 48 page long, full colour, A4 sized comic that I've never seen before...

and here's the back page...

So the comic contents are as follows...
1). front cover - 1 page
2). Scare Bears meet the St. John badgers - 2 pages, new material
3). Star Bears - 4 pages, (reprinted from Zodiac comic #1)
4). Scare Bears - 4 pages, (reprinted from Zodiac comic #1)
5). Scare Bears - 12 pages
6). Star Bears - 4 pages, (reprinted from Zodiac comic #2)
7). map of the events going on in Hyde Park that day - 2 pages
8). Star Bears - 4 pages, (reprint from Zodiac comic #3)
9). Scare Bears - 4 pages, (possible reprint from Zodiac comic #4)
10). Star Bears - 6 pages, (possible reprint from Zodiac comic #4)
11). Scare Bears - 3 pages, reprinted from Zodiac comic #2
12). advert - 1 page
13). rear cover - 1 page

UPDATED: I've found an image of the Scare Bears stickers (25 in a pack for 24p!) so I've added that in below...

1). Star Bears
Created by Craig Dixon and Matt Gibas
Here and here I looked at Z comic...

...which has 4 pages of Star Bears content...

...and then there was the sticker book (here)

And in this book there's a 6 page strip...
Here's an example page...

2). Scare Bears
Illustrated by Craig Dixon and Matt Gibas
Illustrated by George Nicholas
This featured in the sticker book (here)

Here and here I looked at Z comic...

which featured a 4 page Scare Bears strip

there was also the Scare Bears monster party book that I looked at here

The Scare Bear also feature on the cover of 'Cartoon Aid' which I looked at here

and this has two newspaper style strips

plus this full-colour 12-page strip (illustrated by George Nicholas - my list of his work here)

3).
Were Bears

another comic from George Nicholas - which I looked at in more detail here - a title from 1990/1. So I'm assuming that the Scare Bears evolved into Were bears

UPDATED: The best of Real Ghostbusters, Marvel UK, 1990-91

I've looked at a variety of The Real Ghostbusters comics from Marvel UK before...

Puzzlebuster is here
Collected comics is here

...and now we have the 5 issues run of The best of Real Ghostbusters
Seems like a tough run to collect, any help with missing images would be much appreciated.

Now updated with the covers for issue 3 & 5 (c/o friend of the blog Richard Gilham). These are all hard to get hold of.

UPDATED: Asterix calendars

A well overdue update to my guide to collecting Asterix calendars - hope you managed to get one of these to hang on your wall, I didn't!

now updated with calendars for 2026 - highlighted thus

Asterix calendar 2026

Asterix calendar 2025

Asterix calendar 2024

Asterix calendar 2023

A chance find at a bookshop in December 2019 has meant that, happily, an Asterix calendar has been hanging on my wall this year.

2022 appears looks set to be a bumper year for Asterix calendars with these two calendars currently available on Amazon...

Working out a gift list for last Christmas inspired me to see if a calendar has been produced for...and, good news, it has been...and it's been on my wall all year

the calendar previously on my wall...

...I then started wondering if there had been calendars for other years...so far I've found just this one

A quick bit of googling brings up plenty of 'kalendars' for the German market but few others - or maybe they've just dropped the word 'kalendar' from the title (so that it can be sold more widely).

Anyway if you know of any other Asterix calendars do let me know - thanks.

UPDATED: Fantastic Max - 1990 - Marvel & Redan

This was a comic I hadn't come across before until very recently. I like the look of the covers more than the interior work but there you go. The copyright notice state that this is published by Marvel Comics Ltd in association with The Redan company and that's about all I know about it.

At least 13 issues, if you know any more do let me know, thanks!

UPDATE: now with a cover for issue #3 included

Fantastic Max, issue 1, 13th October 1990, 50p

Fantastic Max, issue 2, 27th October 1990, 50p
image not to hand - can you help?

Fantastic Max, issue 3, 10th November 1990, 50p
image from this ebay sale

Fantastic Max, issue 4, 24th November 1990, 50p
image not to hand - can you help?

Fantastic Max, issue 5, 8th December 1990, 50p
image not to hand - can you help?

Fantastic Max
, issue 6, 22nd December 1990, 50p

...and then at some point it becomes a month title (rather than fortnightly) and the price goes up to 75p (from 55p)

There was also a Spring Special - the advert is taken from a 1992 Superted Spring Special - and says out now so I think we can safely assume this was published.
