UPDATED: Simon Harrison art in various places

Listening to the "Mega City Book Club" podcast this week about the art of Simon Harrison inspired me to go and see what of his non-2000AD comics I'd acquired over the years. The following is my list of that work but I'm sure there's more out there...

Update: I've just realised that Simon's work also appears in a few of the old UKCAC convention booklets. I've picked this one out in particular (with its cover art by John Bolton)...

...because it features this Shuk & Doode illustration which should be of interest to anyone who (like me) has recently purchased (here) the Shuk & Doode collection

Garry Leach artwork

Like many people I was shocked to learn of the death yesterday of artist Garry Leach. There wasn't enough of his artwork in my childhood so I when I became aware of his work later on in life I was always pleased to discover it. Here's what I've showcased on the blog previously...

UKCAC programme 1990, A4 sized, 112 pages, Garry Leach cover

Presented free with Eagle and Battle with Storm Force in the issue dated 29th August 1987* here's what Garry drew...

It's in 3-D so suggest you see if you can find an old pair so that you can enjoy the strip in all its glory!

*and quite possible other Fleetway titles produced on this date (2000AD?)

I loved the VC's strip (which I saw in those Quality comics reprints) and I understand the covers for these books, although unsigned, is by Garry.

The VCs book one, Titan books, May 1987

The VCs book two, Titan books, July 1987

and I've finally found a Just Comics advert with a signature on! This is from the UKCAC 1990 brochure (see cover image above)

The 13th floor volume 3

Just a reminder that the 3rd (and final) volume of the 13th floor books comes out today...

The Treasury of British comics imprint have announced the publication of the 3rd and final volume of The Thirteenth floor. As it says on their site it says...

The epic horror comic concludes with this third terrifying tome!
The Thirteenth Floor is one of the best remembered series of the 1980s, a cornucopia of chilling comics from the pages of Scream! and Eagle by writers John Wagner (Judge Dredd) and Alan Grant (Batman), and artist Jose Ortiz (Creepy).

In this third and final volume, Max the maniacal computer is back in Maxwell Tower, dishing out his twisted form of retribution on anyone who dares to cross his beloved residents! From a conniving milkman to thuggish street urchins, anyone who enters Max’s territory looking for trouble is going for a one-way trip to the thirteenth floor!

However, Max's past exploits have not gone unnoticed. The K.G.B. have sent their own super-powered computer called Boris to make Max an offer – help them conquer the world or face obliteration!
Don't miss the thrilling conclusion to this classic strip, beautifully rendered by Ortiz in his atmospheric black and white art.
You can order the regular edition paperback here for £14.99

and the webshop exclusive hardcover here for £19.99

The book is scheduled for release on Wednesday 15th September 2021

'Ant Wars' original art up for sale

Just spotted on ebay (right here) are these 3 pages of the Ant Wars strip that appeared in prog #71 in a 1978 issue 2000AD.

Theses 3 pages are by artist Ferrer and are from the very first issue of Ant Wars.

Bidding starts at £400 and there's already one bid in so these will sell - good luck if you decide to bid.

UPDATE: SOLD FOR £599!

Ant Wars appeared in progs 71-85 and has been reprinted in Scavengers comic issues 22-26, in new Eagle issues 217 (dated 17/05/86) to 231 (dated 23/08/86) and in its own reprint volume (ISBN 978-1-78108-622-3).
There's a piece of work to do to compare and contrast all those reprints and see if the same material is present in, say, new Eagle as in 2000AD but that's a project for another day.
