Tom Tully novels

As a kid I acquired a couple of cricket novels by Tom Tully that I'd seen advertised in new Eagle - a recent spot on ebay set me off looking for Tully's (non-comic character related) novels. These are what I've found so far. There are some well-known names contributing art to them.

Tom Tully - Little Ed (1979)
interior art by Lesley Smith

Tom Tully - Ed at large (1980)
cover illustration by Maggie Ling; interior art by Lesley Smith

Tom Tully - Look out...It's Little Ed! (1981)
interior art by Lesley Smith

Tom Tully - the space-waifs (1980)
illustrations by Penny Ives

Tom Tully - the magnificent 11 (1986)
cover art by John Higgins; interior art by Kim Raymond

Tom Tully - the show-down at Seabank (1987)
cover art and interior art by Geoff Senior

Tom Tully - fight on the run (1987)
cover artist unknown to me

Tom Tully - Robbo versus the World (1990)
illustrated by Yvonne Hutton

Tom Tully - Robbo 2, the world 0 (1990)
illustrated by Yvonne Hutton

The Robbo series seems to have been popular in Norway because the stories ran to at least 7 volumes...

John Higgins sketchbook
I didn't get this from an actual comic convention in Moscow, instead I got it at the 2000AD 40th birthday event in 2017, A5 sized, 44 pages

Kev Sutherland's comic festivals - extras!

I've previously looked at the great spin-off 'decks of cards' that Kev Sutherland put together for the comics festivals he ran in the early '00s. So far I've looked at...

The (2001) hearts suit of cards is here
The (2001) diamonds suit of cards is here
The (2001) clubs suit of cards is here
The (2001) spades suit of cards is here

He then repeated the exercise in 2003...
Part 1 of the 2003 deck of cards is here
Part 2 of the 2003 deck of cards is here

Part 3 of the 2003 deck of cards is here

And the 2003 London (winter) comics festival here

Thanks to that post some more images have come to light - let's see what we've now got...
1). The original art for the DR & Quinch images from the 2003 deck of Christmas cards (so from the London 2003 festival)
...and the cards that they became...

2). A number of the original illustrations have now been supplied to me, let's see what's here...

David Hitchcock (from the Bristol 2003 set)

Simon Coleby (from the Bristol 2003 set - although this card didn't feature in my posts about that set)

Frazer Irving (from the Bristol 2003 set)

Mike Collins (from the Bristol 2003 set)

Chris Weston (from the Bristol 2001 set)

Mark Buckingham (from the Bristol 2003 set)

Gary Spender Millidge (from the Bristol 2001 set)

Kev Sutherland (from the Bristol 2001 set)

3). Steve Marchant has found his artwork for his contribution to the London 2003 festival - he says "...I dug out the charity card design that Kev Sutherland invited me to do for the London Comic Festival in 2003. We could do any type of card so I decided to do an addition to the Land of the Giants cards I'd enjoyed collecting as a boy. They featured either a still from the show or a cast member on one side, and a comic strip installment on the reverse. I took the opportunity of basing Spindrift on the ship in the show, rather than the incorrect 'airplane' design on the original cards"

4). a t-shirt!

Dave Gibbons & John Higgins signing today

This is this afternoon people, don't forget!

Forbidden Planet (London megastore branch) have announced a signing by Dave Gibbons and John Higgins for the DC modern classics edition of Watchmen
This has previously been announced as just a Dave Gibbons signing but that was postponed and now has been re-announced but with extra John Higgins.
The Date? Saturday 25th May 2019, 4-5pm, as it says on the website (here)...
DC introduces DC Modern Classics, collecting ground-breaking, genre-defining works in new hardcover editions, presented in a beautifully designed slipcase.
In a world where the mere presence of American super-heroes changed history, the U.S. won the Vietnam War, Richard Nixon is still president, and the Cold War is in effect.
WATCHMEN begins as a murder mystery, but it soon unfolds into a planet-altering conspiracy. As the resolution comes to a head, an unlikely group of reunited heroes - Rorschach, Nite Owl, Silk Spectre, Dr. Manhattan and Ozymandias - must test the limits of their convictions and ask themselves where the true line between good and evil lies.
Dave Gibbons is one of Britain’s finest comic artists, whose most famous work is the multi-award- winning Watchmen. He has also drawn series including Batman, Doctor Who and Give Me Liberty, and has written Batman vs. Predator, Green Lantern and World’s Finest, as well as his own graphic novel The Originals.
John Higgins is probably best known for colouring Watchmen and Batman The Killing Joke. He created, wrote, and drew, the acclaimed Razorjack series. He also wrote and designing an autobiographical art book, Beyond Watchmen & Judge Dredd: The Art of John Higgins, published by Liverpool University Press.

John B Higgins covers - new Eagle (part 1)

To celebrate John Higgins exhibition 'Beyond Dredd & Watchmen: the Art of John Higgins’ I thought I'd have a look at the covers he produced for the new Eagle

First one is from 1982 and is John's only non-Doomlord cover, can you find his signature? It's beautifully hidden...
Also from 1982
and then from 1987
