Eagle annual #5 - pay copy

A real one off here. Yes it's a 'pay copy' of Eagle annual #5. That is, it's a copy of the annual marked up with who was paid (and how much they were paid) for each page of the annual. I've seen copies of comics that were 'pay copies' but this was the first time I'd seen an annual.
Anyway, for posterity, here are some images from the annual. Sometimes the writer/artist is credited and sometimes it's their agent.

All images are c/o Gray Newell [with thanks to Norman Boyd for reminding me].

John Ryan's Harris Tweed in sporting action here

The Imperial War Museum, R. Taylor and Frank Bellamy all contributed here

Art by Desmond Walduck; script by Alan Stranks

Art by Harry Bishop; script by Charles Chilton

More John Ryan (script & artwork)

David Langdon art (and script presumably)

Art by John Worsley; script by Alan Stranks (again)

UPDATED: Desmond Walduck art

I've looked before here and here about the non-Dan Dare art of original Dan Dare artist Desmond 'Prisoners of Space' Walduck...

And now some other pieces by Walduck...

First up is "Pheasants near Goldingtons"

This is "The old fox had them going in circles"

This is "Tawny owl from my studio window"

This piece is called 'Down in the forest something stirred'

This piece is called 'Harriet Romancing'

Desmond's landscape art turns up rarely so I was delighted to spot this piece recently

It's yours for £300 (or best offer) plus postage

'Harriet Romancing' - by Dan Dare artist Desmond Walduck

Inspired by a posting the other night of an unusual piece of art by Dan Dare artist Desmond Walduck I had a look on ebay to see what else might be out there and I stumbled across this piece of art...

My main exposure to Desmond Walduck is his art on the 'Prisoners of Space' Dan Dare strip which, when compared to the astounding quality achieved by Frank Hampson and Don Harley looks very bland indeed.

So this (and the nude from the other evening) are a revelation and shine a very different light on Walduck and highlight his artistic talent.

Desmond Walduck art - something a little different

Over here (on that ebay), something a little different is for sale, it's a watercolour of a wildlife scene by renowned Dan Dare artist, Desmond Walduck. Walduck is most well-known for his artwork on the 'Prisoners of space' storyline. I've seen examples of his watercolour scenes fo the natural world before but this is the first one I've seen for a while. The sellers has more pictures. Auction ends mid-afternoon tomorrow (Saturday).
