Rivers of London comics - Black Mould

I've long enjoyed the Rivers of London book series (by Ben Aaronovitch) and I've been delighted at how many comic spin-off series there have been. Hmmm, I wondered just how many comics are there? Well, time to start looking into this.

So far I've looked at...
Body Work here
Night Witch here
Deadly ever after issue 1 here

Next up...Black Mould. If you spot any comics I've missed just let me know...Also if you can help with cover artist credits that'd be great (all the covers are taken from Ben's website - so the image quality is great but the artist credits are poor, ha ha). Thanks to Chris Nicholls for help with the artist credits.

London Film & Comic-con, Olympia, July 2019

I was going to do a listing of my favourite comic artists attending the London film and comic con at Olympia on Friday 26th - Sunday 28th July (tickets are available here) when I suddenly realised that MIKE DOREY will be attending (as well as all those other great names). Only his second ever con appearance. Wow. Looking forward to this now.

Details of artists below (for a full list of the creators attending just go here)
Mike Dorey worked on most of the British boys comics of the 70’s to early 90’s. He had lengthy runs on many classic characters including the defining style on Computer Warrior for Eagle.

In the early years of 2000AD he illustrated Ro-Busters, ABC Warriors, Invasion, Mach 1, Mach Zero, Rogue Trooper and Tharg's Future Shocks, among many others.

In addition to this, he was the artist on Victor Drago in Tornado and Hellman in Action (and then Battle-Action). Future Ball was drawn in the final years of Roy of the Rovers.

In Victor and Warlord he drew Sergeant Rayker, Iron Annie, Wolverine, Cassidy, Howzatt, Tough of the track, Morgyn the Mighty, Head Hunter of the Galaxy and Cadman.

Comrade Bronski and Manta Force were drawn in Eagle.

Some of his work is reproduced by Rebellion in ‘2000AD the Ultimate Collection’ and by Titan books in ‘Tales of Nu-Earth’ featuring Rogue Trooper.

He now works on TV and film storyboards.

Apart from a recent Scottish convention, this is Mike's SECOND EVER CONVENTION, and is a must-see!

Gary Erskine has worked in the comic industry for near thirty years for MARVEL, DC Comics, Vertigo, Dark Horse Comics, IMAGE, IDW and other companies with writers Mark Millar, Warren Ellis, Garth Ennis, James Robinson and Grant Morrison on books including The Unwritten, Hellblazer, War Stories, The Massive with Brian Wood, and Grindhouse with Alex De Campi, with characters as diverse as Judge Dredd, Starman, John Constantine, Dan Dare and Captain America. He has also contributed to licenses including Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Transformers and Terminator. He mentors film students on storyboarding, teaches workshops at schools and libraries and is currently writing and publishing ROLLER GRRRLS. Future work includes Incendiary.US and Zachariah Gunn: Dakota.

Gary has also provided storyboards and concept design work for the games and film industry and also works commercially with clients including D'Agostini, SONY, EA Games COLORS, Team GB British Cycling, J League and the Joshua Agency. He has also contributed a short story to the successful Metal Made Flesh series for Subversive Comics working with writer Cy Dethan called The Final Piece Of Me. Recent work includes the companion graphic novel to the Frontlines series of sci-fi novels by Marko Kloos, written by Ivan Brandon for Jet City Comics and covers for Sabrina, The Teenage Witch for Archie Comics.

Outside comics, Gary also hosts character Design workshops for schools and teaches storyboards for film students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and more recently provided workshops for the Prince's Trust. He has produced educational and promotional work and talks for various universities including Glasgow and St Andrews. He also teaches games design at Fife college.

Gary was also the Creative Director of the Glenrothes Comic Con events [2017, 2018]

He lives near St. Andrews with his wife Mhairi and cats, Meg and Mog.

Dan Boultwood signing at Forbidden Planet today

Don't forget that this is today folks....

To celebrate Dan Boultwood's recently announced signing at Forbidden Planet (London) on Saturday 25th August 2018 at 1pm in honour of
it's Dan Boultwood day on the blog!

For those who haven't read it, it's described thus...
Driving through the British countryside, unthinkingly misogynistic space scientist, Dr. Boy Brett, and his companion, Doris Night, pop into a quaint village pub for a cheese ploughman’s...

This is definitely how it starts but hardly does justice to the tale that follows.

You can pre-order a signed copy here and an unsinged copy here

Dan Boultwood has also drawn the cover for 'Tales from the Tardis' (see below), and I thought I'd see what other art by him I could lay my hands on...

The collected 'It Came!' published by Titan Books (March 2014) - this collects the 4 issue series 'It Came!' - Dan's ace retro sf tale

From The Phoenix (issue 166, 7 Mar 2015) we have the first episode of Dirk Lloyd - the dark Lord (described as by Dan Boultwood, created by Dave Morris and Jamie Thompson)

Example page of Dan's art

Also from the Phoenix, here we have, from issue 181 (20 June 2015), Squid Squad
