The silence of unicorns - on Kickstarter now

I'm really looking forward to seeing 'The silence of unicorns' graphic novel when it comes out - there's still time(just!) to back the Kickstartere here

It's already fully funded but there are always more stretch goals to aim for. I hope you'll have a look and it and maybe even back it!

The story is like this...

Set in modern times Scottish adventurer Tara Togs dreams of becoming a professional photographer and her knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time lands her smack-bang in the middle of a gang of ruthless criminals and their plot to steal a valuable piece of art. Armed only with her quick wits and unfailing bravery, she sets out to bring the gang to justice. She manages to make a few friends on her adventure, including Heggy the Private Detective, that can lend a helping hand. Only together do they have a chance of stopping the thieves and solving the mystery of one of the world's greatest lost treasures.

Tara Togs - The Silence of Unicorns by Stref took five years to complete. Stref is the pen name for Stephen White, who is a writer/artist who has worked for the the Beano, Dandy, Viz and on characters such as Peter Pan, Raising Amy, Oor Wullie and the Broons. The 72 page graphic novel is inspired by the work of Herge and is in the TinTin book format. You can read the first six page prologue below. The book is complete ready to print so you will get it soon after the kickstarter has ended.

The Happy Warrior is in ComicScene #3

For fans of the original 1950's Eagle magazine there's a treat in store this month with the new issue (#3) of Comic Scene magazine featuring a 2 page article on the Frank Bellamy illustrated portrayal of the Happy Warrior strip.

The Happy Warrior was the back page 'true life adventure' strip dedicated to the life of Winston Churchill. For Eagle this was the first time that a living person had been the subject of the feature.
Anyway, shameless plug over for an article written by, er, me, hope you enjoy the other articles as well.

Comic Scene is available to buy here

The VERY limited edition Happy Warrior - only 3 copies made

Compare the palette Bellamy uses in the darkest days of the war (below) with that of the Sudan (far below)...

Pat Mills to write for ComicScene!

Pat Mills to have the last word in new magazine ComicScene UK

Pat Mills, the creator and first editor of 2000AD and co-creator of characters such as Slaine and ABC Warriors, is to write an exclusive regular monthly column for the new magazine ‘Comic Scene UK’.  The ‘Last Word’ column is expected to be as colourful, controversial and outspoken as his appearances in the recent 2000AD documentary ‘FutureShock’ and his book ‘Be Pure! Be Vigilant! Behave! – 2000AD and Judge Dredd: The Secret History’.

Pat Mills said about the announcement, “I’m passionate about British comics and their unique place in the world. Unfortunately, their spirit can be diluted and devalued by trying to emulate the Americans, and by a certain bland, ‘make no waves’ thinking. I’m looking forward to shedding a little light on some dark corners of the industry, and suggesting some possible solutions in my new column: The Last Word!

Tony Foster from ComicsFlix publishing “We are very pleased that we have the Godfather of comics writing a regular column for ComicScene UK.  Pat has been a success across the world and created some of the greatest comic stories and characters.  The ideas, advice and recommendations he will share in ComicScene UK will be worth the cover price alone.  We look forward to him having the last word in every monthly issue.”
