Velocity - Warren & Gary Pleece

This is just a shout out for some recent acquisitions of some early small press work by Warren & Gary Pleece.

Velocity was published in the late 1980s and pre-dates Warren's work on True Faith (with Garth Ennis). A4 size, 36 pages, black & white art throughout. Predominantly strip pieces but with some text pieces. Well worth looking out for these early examples of the Pleece brothers work.

Velocity #2, 95p, self-published

Velocity #3, £1.25p, self-published

Velocity #4, £1.65, published by Acme comics & Eclipse International

You can see the other issues of Velocity in this interview (by Paul Gravett) with Warren Pleece.

Maxwell the magic cat, volume 3

The four slim reprint volumes (published by Acme press) of Alan Moore's Maxwell the magic cat newspaper strips are surely high on the wants list of any Moore aficionado. Volumes 1 and 2 seem a little easier to get hold of than volumes 3 and 4 but I've long been more interested in volumes 3&4 as I knew they had Maxwell work by other artists in.

Below we have the artistic highlights of volume 3 - the original art of these images (along with those in volume 4) were all auctioned off at UKCAC87 for charity.

Steed & Mrs Peel - Ian Gibson & Grant Morrison

Everyone's go a lockdown project right? One of mine has been to complete those runs of comics where I'd picked up the odd issue here and there without ever actually completing the run and being able to, y'know, actually read the comics.

Anyway this week, to celebrate completing my run of 'Steed and Mrs Peel' comic, I'll be treating myself to a whole lot of Ian Gibson artwork as I settle down and finally read 'Steed and Mrs Peel'.

Note that 'The golden game' is written by Grant Morrison and 'The deadly game' by Anne Caulfield.

Here's a covers gallery...

Contains 'The Golden game - part 1'

Contains 'The Golden game - part 2'

The Grand Comics Database has variant covers for some of these Boom comics - for instance here - but I've not included them here.

There was then a collected edition which looks like this...

Powerman - Dave Gibbons & Brian Bolland

I've covered some 'glimpses' of Powerman on the blog before (here) but I thought I'd also gather up, from around the internet, any covers I could find and then just update this posting as time goes by, so without further ado here's what I've found so far

It goes without saying that if you can help fill in any of the gaps in this over gallery then just drop me a line, cheers!
