And it truly is a beautiful morning.  I have been out early this morning, a quick trip to Kroger for a few things I needed.  It is 46 degrees and the sun was warm on my face again.  I do believe that spring is making an appearance.  Well, I know for a fact it is because I saw some nice green weeds shooting up by the house foundation this morning.  I keep those pulled because they would soon be gigantic if I didn’t.  Maintenance has the yard treated and mowed and that is the extent of that.

I noticed that there are Easter eggs scattered all through the front yard.  My neighbor has a young boy and I think I will be in for a treat this afternoon, watching the gathering of the eggs.  This surely brings back memories.  We always fixed a nice Easter basket filled with treats for our kids.  

“Time is a river that flows ‘round the bend, never to return to the places it’s been.”  And no matter how much we might wish it, we can never go back in time.

Beautiful day…

yesterday.  The sun was shining and the temp in the 60s.  Just perfect.  The food was good and the company was very nice.  My son in law’s brother and his wife live in the country.  I got quite a few pictures of the egg hunting, etc. and a picture of a horse in the field next door.  I don’t feel comfortable posting photos of children as once you put something on the internet it is there for all of the world to see.  Some of the world is not very pretty.  The horse however is fair game. 

 

The horse was so tame he came right up to the fence.  My  SIL’s brother told me that they feed him apples and carrots and that is why he is so friendly. The horse looks like he would be gentle enough for a child to ride. 

It is lovely again today.  The sun is shining and it is 46 degrees.  Very windy though and school is out for another day.  I have to make a store run as I am out of milk. I will leave other errands until tomorrow as the stores will be packed with people again today.

Happy Birthday…

to my son Jim.  I hope this is a good day for you.  I am sorry we couldn’t be together today on your birthday.  Your visit last week was special.  We all had a good time.

This year your birthday falls on Easter Sunday.  What a glorious day you are sharing with Christians all over the world.  He is risen.

Frosty morning…

here in the heart of central Illinois.  The temp is a sunny 35 right now and to get in the mid 60s today.  There was patchy frost here this morning but no hard freeze like was predicted.  The furnace has been running this morning and it is warm in the house.

I have been invited to go with my daughter and son in law to my SIL’s brothers home to eat on Easter Sunday.  That will be fun to watch the little kids hunt the Easter treats.  I will be taking macaroni and cheese and some other unknown thing (yet to be decided) with me.

I haven’t decided yet what I want to do today.  There are 14 garage sales listed in the Pekin paper today.  I don’t know the city well enough to go out hunting them. I do know my way around well enough now to find my way home if I get lost.  When I first moved here I got lost a lot. 

Easter Sunday(April 8) is my son’s birthday. We had his celebration last week when he came home.  I will miss seeing him on his birthday.

Still raining here…

but my spirits are high.  As I just stated, it is raining here, and has rained for several days now.  The street in front of my house is still flooded.  Not sure if the sewer drain is blocked or not, probably from the leaves from the big oak in my front yard.  My daughter tells me that has always been a problem in different areas around town.  Makes no difference, I was out and did my grocery shopping yesterday.  This time at Food Depot where they had many name brand items on sale including Miracle Whip for $2.67 and Cool Whip for 77 cents. So I will stay inside today.  I think I might fix some ham and beans although my Twin is fixing barbequed chicken for her son.  I may go eat with them instead. 
Just thinking, where I lived before for all those many years, when I looked out the back door I saw my garage, then if I walked out past the garage, there was my glorious alley.  Some of you may remember the little video I did when I introduced you all to my alley a few years ago.  Sadly, I don’t have an alley here.  Now when I look out my back door in addition to the cemetery I can see major highway traffic to the right and to my left behind the cemetery I can see trains at different hours of the day.  I am not far from the airport so I hear planes occasionally throughout the day too.  I can’t help but wonder what Jim would think of all of this.  Probably the thing that would interest him the most is the fact that the riverboat casino is just a few miles down the road from me on that major highway I just mentioned. 
My son in law’s brother and his wife have asked me to go with my daughter and son in law to their home for Easter dinner.  They are such gracious people.  I was invited to their home for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  This time will be special as there is a brand new baby in their family. 
If I plan to cook some beans I had better get up and go put them to soak.  Not sure yet if I want to make the effort.
