Drip Manicure

Hi dear readers !

So, I introduced you to Jindie Nails Candy Land Remix wednesday, now it's time to show you the nail art I did on it :)

I decided to go for a drip manicure, I love these, especially when they include some glitter ! Then, they look like birthday cakes :D
It's my first try at this technique, but it was funny to create. I had to play with my tools but the final result isn't as bad as I expected ! I think it's even good haha ^^

I decided to play with China Glaze Urban Night this time. I started to apply a thin line on the nail tips, like you'd do for a french manicure, except I didn't try to get a perfect line.
With a dotting tool, generously dipped in Urban Night, I added dots above the "french" line and dragged to create the drip effect. Finally, I touched up all the curves with a thin brush to make them look better.

It's not perfect and you can easily see where my hand hesitated, but I'm happy with my first try ! It's also the first time I play with a detail brush... Perfection needs time and training, and maybe one day my drips will be as perfect as these :) (one can dream ^^)

Do you like it ?

Have a nice day :)

Hello !

Independance Day Manicure

This is a quick message for my French speaking readers
Le blog est de nouveau dispo en français ! Il vous suffit de vous rendre à la fin du post et de cliquer sur Version Française ;)

Hi dear readers !

In three years of blogging, I've never celebrated something with a manicure. It always came when I don't had time, or when I had something else planned ...
So today I'm very happy to pay a tribute to all my fellow American readers on this 4th of July !

At first I wanted to copy another blogger, Pshiiit, who did a great American flag using only stamping.
But once I came back home, I realised that I just don't have these plates ! How could I forget it ? I must be very tired haha :D
The only stars pattern I have is the one from Bundle Monster's first set, and it's made of stars of different sizes, far away from the even and well aligned stars from the USA flag ...
Anyway I decided to use it and go for something a bit unstructured, making my stripes with the sugar spun technique to make something uneven, too :)

My red base is Essence Applause, Applause, the blue accent is Color Club Cold Metal. I made the sugar spun with China Glaze Snow and the stamping with white Konad polish and plate BM 20.

I loved the result, I didn't plan at all to do this and thought I'd go more conventionnal but I'm glad of this interpretation of the American flag :)

What do you think ? Do you like it ?

Have a nice day :)

Purple Slim Slines

Hi dear readers !

Some weeks ago, I saw this great design on Pinterest and absolutely needed to give it a try. I found a link to the tutorial on The Nail Buff, tried it quickly on a tip and decided I'd do it in purple. Here's the result I got:

It's a bit messy but I love the effect. I used four polishes:
- Catrice Lavenderlicious as the base
- Catrice Plum Play With Me as the darker purple
- China Glaze Spontaneous as the medium purple
- OPI Done Out in Deco as the lightest purple, not really noticeable on my pics, I'll explain why below.
- I added one coat of Seche Vite as usual.

It's an easy technique, but it can require a lot of time. In this video tutorial made by NailsKathy, you'll see why it can be so long to create: http://youtu.be/o5CTNGcFbzg

The first polish I used, Catrice Plum Play With Me, worked really well. The China Glaze took a bit longer to form strings but it was still okay, and the OPI took an eternity to string, it almost didn't work with that one.
So before trying this technique, you should make some tests with the polishes you plan to use, in order to know what will work the best :)

Now I did it once, I want to make other color combos like shades of blues, rainbow, or try a bright color over black ... There are tons of possibilites !

What do you think ? Do you likee it ?
Will you try it yourself ?

Have a nice day :)

Cloud Manicure

Hi dear readers :)

No stamping challenge today, as yesterday was April's Fool, the girls on Adventures in Stamping decided to do a non-stamping manicure ! I loved the idea, but as this is a scheduled post it's no fun to do something in advance :p
Anyway, I'll show you a non-stamping manicure I made a while ago ;)

You already know about my love for Jane and her manicures on Nailside. she does a great job, and she shares some secrets with her tutorials.
Lately I loved her Cloud manicures and decided to follow her explanations on how to make them. Well the most difficult part was to choose some colors. As I ust got P2 Night Out and wanted to try it, I started with it as the base.

Not too bad for a first try, rigth ? :)
I know they are not perfect, they look a bit square-y, but i'm still glad with them !

I used P2 Night Out as the base, China Glaze Millenium for the middle color, and the third color is a little mess ... I wanted to use a dark blue crackle but it ate the coat of Millenium, so I hid the damages with two coats of China Glaze Skyscraper.

I'll use this technique many more time, I love it and the possibilities are infinite ! Next time I'd like to add more contrast :)

What do you think ? Have your ever tried the cloud manicure ?

You can see the tutorial I used here: http://nailside.blogspot.com/2012/01/tutorial-freehand-cloud-design.html

Have a nice day :)

This is a scheduled post. I'll reply to your comments as soon as I come back :) Thank you !

Valentine Nails: Garden of Hearts

Hi dear readers !

Tomorrow's Valentine day ... Do you do something special for that occasion ?
My boyfriend and I don't do something special for that day ... Oh we ate a cute little heart-shaped cake saturday but that's all :) I don't really like the commercial part in that celebration ... But isn't it a good reason to make cute nails with hearts ? :p

This is what i did for this week Adventures in Stamping challenge, the theme was obviously Valentine Day :)
To get this result, I first used one coat of Catrice Rock Barock, a sheer nude pink with a very slight shimmer.
Then I sponged from the tips through half of the nail with China Glaze Phat Santa, and sponged again with China Glaze Ruby Pumps, only on the tips for a bling.
Finally I stamped the hearts with Konad plate m83 and special polish in white. Doens't this design look like little flower with hearts on top ?

Unfortunately, the glitter from Ruby Pumps don't show on my pics :( They are more present in real life.

What do you think of my V-day nails ? :)

I plan on doing another V-Day design as I'd like to try an idea I had ... Well, I won't tell more, in case I fail lol ^^

Will you paint your nails with something special for tomorrow ? If so, feel free to add the link in your comments, I'd love to see them :)

Have a nice day ^^

Guest Post: Very Emily

Hi dear readers !

Are you ready for another guest post ?
This week I'm glad to welcome Emily from the blog Very Emily ! When I discovered her blog, I immediatl loved her style. She does a lot of freehand with inpiration from flowers, cloth prints, nature ... But my fave style from her are those cute vintage flowers she does so well ... And guess what ? That's what she does for her guest post, she even made it to match my blog color scheme :)

Hello Gwenn's lovely readers!

When Gwenn asked me guest post for her I felt so honoured and excited! I immediately thought of doing something inspired by her blog's colour scheme. I ended up doing flowers since Gwenn mentioned she liked my floral prints so this is what I came up with!
I really love doing flowers, they always look really pretty but are very easy to create. I used thin nail art brushes and stripers.

And the polishes I used were:
Barry M Berry Ice Cream
Barry M Bright Purple
China Glaze VIII
China Glaze Electric Pineapple
China Glaze Starboard
Models Own Nail Art Pens

I really hope you like them! I also would like to thank Gwenn for this amazing opportunity, I had so much fun creating these and I was really happy that you asked me to do a guest post. Thank you so much!

Thank you Emily !
Aren't these vintage flowers too cute ? I just love everything about them :) I'd like to learn to create them but my tries were unsuccessful for the moment ^^
Emily's blog talks about nail polish and nail art but not only ! You'll also find make up, reviews, great pictures ... She also makes a lot of reviews for Born Pretty Store and shares nice advices !
Did I mention she's from Belgium, like me ? We can moan together about belgian shops that don't have the same stuff than in Germany or Netherlands and our difficulties to find certain brands, lol ;)

Please visit Emily's blog here: http://www.emilydenisephotography.com/blog/
You'll even find tutorials to create cute flowers !

I hope you liked her guest post as much as I did :)

Have a nice day !

My Christmas Manicure

Hi dear readers :)

Today I'll finally show you what I had on my nails for Christmas ! I should have shown you it before, but well, I didn't have a lot of time ...

As I was wearing Ruby Pumps last week, I decided to go for little Santa coats on my nails. I saw that design on a lot of blogs this year and found it adorable :)

I'm not so happy about the final look I got ... The white stripes are too thick and the belt buckle was a bit hard to paint perfectly for me ... But I like it for a first try :)

What do you think ?

For the base I used China Glaze Ruby Pumps, the white is China Glaze Snow, the black is a liner from Essence and the buckle was painted with China Glaze Millenium.

Thank you for watching and commenting :)

Have a nice day ^^

Geometrical French with BPS Stud

Hi dear readers :)

Last time Kevin from Born Pretty Store asked me what I'd like to review from their webstore, I thought of the pretty studs I saw lately on Emily's blog. She told me how much she liked them, so I decided to give them a try and review these !

Metal studs are used like rhinestones, but they are made of metal and have a smooth, bumpy side. They come in different sizes (1.5mm, 2mm or 3mm) and colors (silver, gold, pink, purple, black ...)
For my first use, I wanted the most basic ones, so I went for 1.5mm silver studs.
Here's what I did with them:

For this design, I used two coats of Flormar Supermatte M126 (which is not matte at all, not even satin, but still lovely!)  as the base and added two coats of China Glaze CG in the City on one half of the geometrical design.

Then I added some black lines with and Essence liner, and finally added the studs just as usual rhinestones: I put one small drop of top coat where I wanted the stud to be, took the stud with an orange stick, placed it and finished with one thick coat of top coat (Seche Vite)
That's all ! This design is really easier than it seems ... Would you like to see a step by step ? I could make one soon :)

The studs are really lovely. They don't bling like rhinestones but they add some shine to your nails. I think it's easy to match with many kind of nail arts :)
The 1.5mm are not as thick as rhinestones, so if you are one of those people who can't help scracth that little bump made by the rhinestones (like I do), the studs are perfect for you !
I wore that manicure 4 days, and the studs didn't move at all. As they are thin, they'll suffer less from bumps and all those things that make normal rhinestones fell off your nails after a few days.

Metal Studs are available on BornPrettyStore, in the Metal Rhinestones section. You'll find them for 5.51$, with free shipping as usual on BPS.

I don't know how much studs a bag contains, but I filled 2 1/2 compartments of a rhinestone wheel, which is a lot !

The silver ones don't react to acetone or polish remover, so you can use them again if you're patient :)
What do you think ? Have you ever tried that kind of studs ? And do you like today's manicure ? :)

Have a nice day :)

Pink Wednesday: Hello Kitty French :3

Hi sweeties :)

A while ago, a friend of mine did a Hello Kitty manicure inspired by Kayla Shevonne's Hello Kitty nails. As a fan of the cute kitty (even if I turn 32 this saturday, lol), I had to give it a try !

I started with two coats of my dear China Glaze Strawberry Fields on every nail except the ring finger; that was my accent. On this one, I applied one coat of Catrice Rock Barock, a very sheer pale pink with shimmer. I like to use it in french manicures because of that (very) subtle shimmer :)
Then I made a white french with China Glaze Snow, waited for it to dry and started to paint Kitty's head. I used a random black polish for the eyes, and acrylic paint for the nose as I don't have any yellow polish (except Orly Lemonade which was too pastel for that). I used a thin dotting tool to apply those colors.
Finally, I cheated for the bow, I used a sticker from Born Pretty Store. I have to mention that it had a great quality !
Here's the result:

I didn't add the dots as Kayla did, I think it would have been too much with the gold fleck from Strawberry Fields ...
Oh, and it was such a pleasure to wear Strawberry Fields again, I appreciated it even more than the first time (and my pics  are a bit better, lol)

Do you like that manicure ?
Be sure to check Kayla's blog, she has great manicures, and I love how she organises her nail stuff !

Have a nice day :)

Diva of Geneva inverted French mani

Hi dear readers :)

I've wanted to try the reverted french manicure for a while. I finally did this some weeks ago and liked how it turned, especially thanks to OPI's Diva of Geneva, which is such a great shade !
Diva of Geneva is a dark shimmery plum with gold sparkles in it. Gorgeous ! I really need to use this as a full manicure <3

For the inverted french, here's how I proceeded. I didn't have reinforcement labels at home, so I cut some blue tape in a smile shape, with the help of a bottle of polish to draw the curve.
I applied a base coat, then stuck the curved tape over the half-moon part of the nails and painted the rest with Diva of Geneva.
I applied some silver glitters to hide the demarcation (Essence Nail Art Tip Painter in Silver Sparkle) and added some rhinestones on the ring finger to create an accent.

I think the rhinestones were too much ... I'd prefer this manicure without them, or with smaller stones.
I also think the "smile" isn't round enough. I still like it but I'd like to try it more curved. I need to get some reinforcement labels for sure :p

What do you think ? Would you give ethis look a try ?

For the funny fact, I hadn't any idea of the english name for the reinforcement labels. I had to browse an office supplies webstore until I found them :p (If you want to know, in french we call these "oeillet", which can mean eyelet or even carnation)

OPI Diva of Geneva is from the Swiss Collection (fall 2010) and is still available on NaildeRoyale.

Fails !

Hi dear readers !

Have you ever had that feeling about a manicure that you don't really know if you like it or not ? This happens to me a lot ! I paint my nails, take the pics, and some days later, when I edit the pics to post them here, I'm not sure I want to post them, because I don't like those nails anymore ...

I actually have three of these manicures in my "to post" folder. So, I'll share them with you all at once, I think it's the only way for me to dare posting them :p

First, I wanted to try that Spring Manicure by The lacquer Files. I thought I had the right colors, but my blue base (Catrice Up in the Air) was wayyy to dark and bright for that. First fail.

The second one is a  french manicure. Again, I found my inspiration on the web (but I don't have a link for rthis one), and again, I failed when I chose my colors. What inspired me was a nice french manicure with black tips and some subtle silver glitters sponged on it. Note to myself, Essence Rock'n'Roll isn't subtle enough for that.
I also failed with the stickers, they didn't want to stay properly on my nails :(
And finally, another french manicure that could have been pretty but I loaded it too much ! I used Color Club Gossip Column for the tips and dots, added a coat of Essence Mystic Mermaid and some Konad flowers.
When I realised it was really too much glitters and stuff, it was of course too late ^^'

The two french manicures had some success with my friends, but I just don't really like them. Well, I'll learn from my mistakes :)

Do you have manicures you liked when you have done them, and then don't like anymore when you see them on the pics ?

Have a nice day :)

Beach Manicure

Hi dear readers :)

Today, I'll exceptionally won't make a Pink Wednesday post, but be sure it will be back next week :)

On a board where I usually chat with friends, there are some polish and nail art fanatics and someone launched the idea to make monthly challenges between us. Nothing to win, just a simple theme to interpret each month. As I'm on holliday for the end of the challenge, it was decided that I post my manicure here on the last day of the month :)
The first theme came naturally during this summer: the beach !

Here's what I made ...

It's not a unique design, I've seen it many times on the web with different interpretations, but I'm really proud of it 'cause it turned out exactly like I wanted :)
And believe me, when I only had the sponged colors on the nails without top coat and palm tree, it wasn't really appealing ...

First, I painted my nails with two coats of Orly Blushing Bud. Then I sponged near the cuticles with the dark purple, Orly Wild Wisteria.
I continued with the orange, Essence Sun Downer. I really like this polish for sponging with bright colors :)
I added the yellow but gave it a round shape with the sponge, to remember the downing sun. I used Orly Lemonade (my only yellow lol) but it  was too bright so I added some Sun Downer again in light touches to make the yellow a bit more realistic.
I applied a first coat of Seche Vite to make the surface smooth and ready for stamping, then I used the palm tree from Konad plate m29 and special polish in black.
Finally I sponged some black (Essence fatal) at the base of the palms, added a coat of Seche Vite and it was done :)

I know it looks a bit long when I explain all the steps, but the sponged areas dry fast and you can do this design more quickly than it looks :)

Well, now my friends are discovering my entry to their challenge, I hope they like it and I hope you do, too :)

What's your advice ?

Have a nice day !

Sponging & Konad over Dirty Berry

Hi dear readers !

I'm very happy, I finally managed to get my old RSS feed redirected to the new one, and now I appear again on your blogrolls and feed readers ! That was really bothering me ... I found the solution thanks to this article, if you're interested in it.

On to today's nails, this is a stamping I made some weeks ago and which I loved a lot !

It all started when I saw some of the latest Konad plates on NDED, especially m83. I totally fell in love with the cute hearts and birds on it, though I'm usually not a big lover of the heart patterns.

I started with a sponged french manicure with my beloved Catrice Dirty Berry. Then I stamped the heart and bird designs in black Konad special polish and finished with a purple rhinestone on the ring fingerand one coat of Seche Vite.

I didn't have the occasion to make natural light pictures but I think my new daylight lamp did it good enough :)

I was asked how I do my sponged manicures, well it's very easy in fact. I tried many kind of sponges but my fave to use is a classical sponge you use to wash the dishes. I cut several pieces, one sponge makes many uses ^^
I pour some drops of polish in a small plate, dip the sponge in it and tap it on the nails from the tip to the nail bed. The first coat is very thin so I tap the sponge on almost 3/4 of the nail. I do it on all the nails, then start again but I only tap on 1/2 of the nail. If needed, I do this again, sponging only the border of the tip.

This technique helps to have a soft gradient and also works if you want to sponge over another base color.

So, what's your advice ? Do you like this stamping ? :)

Have a nice day ^^

Pink Wednesday: Splatter Manicure

Hi sweeties !

I'm sure you've seen this trend on other blogs these last days ... Splatter manicure !
I discovered it on Jen's Facebook page, and I immediatly ran to her blog to get more explanations on how she did. I found her tutorial, and in fact it's just sooo easy to do ! You just need a straw and the polish of your choice :)

Of course, I *HAD* to try that manicure by myself ...
I started with pale base polish, Color Club Who are you Wearing from their Rebel Debutante collection. Application was a real mess, it's sheer and very streaky. I had to use 3 coats, and as it was not drying fast enough, I added a coat of Seche Vite which helped to hide the streaks.
The result is quite good but it needed too much work imo !

Then I took my straw and chose two bright pink shades, Borghese Raspberry Sorbetto and China Glaze Ahoy ! And I did this:

I loved this manicure so much !! I can only thank Jen for her tutorial, now I have to try it with other colors :)

What I dislike the most is the big flat splatter on my left ring finger. I prefer when they are thinner, as on my right hand :p

Do you like this effect ? Did you try it or plan to do it ? I'd love to see your splatters, don't hesitate to link them in the comments section :)

Have a nice day :D

Summer Tiger Stamping :)

Hi dear readers !

I hope you spent a great weekend, here we had a lot of sun today, it was really nice after all those rainy days !

Remember, when I showed you China Glaze Verano, I told you I made some stamping on it... Here it is !

I first apply some Essence Sun Downer (Return to Paradise LE from Summer 2010) on the tips with a sponge, allowed it to dry and finally stamp a tiger print from plate m69 with Konad Special Polish in Black.

I love that look !

I bought that plate on Born Pretty Store for only 2.99$ ! It's not real Konad but it's a design you can find on their plates too.

I must admit I was affraid of the quality for such a price, but it was finally a good surprise, the designs are well engraved and work fine :)
When you know that in Belgian stores they sell Konad plates for about 10-11$, BPS ones are very good deals !
If you are from Europe and want some real Konad plates for an affordable price, you can also check Nail Design Euro Discount.

So, what's your advice ? Do you like that color combo and design ? :)

Have a nice week :)

My first tape manicure attempt

Hi everyone :)

I hope you enjoyed your weekend ;) Today I'll show you my very first attempt at tape manicures. It's far from being perfect, I have to get used to that technique to avoid mistakes, but I liked it enough to show it to you.

First, let me introduce you a blog that inspires me a lot, Chloe's Nails. She makes great tape manis and has some tutorials that helped me to get started. I also love to visit Blue Tape & Nail Tips, she made me discover blue tape and has nice designs.

But on to my attemps. I wanted something simple for my first experiment. I chose to paint may nails in black with Essence Berlin Story and make a blue accent nail with China Glaze Secret Peri-Winkle, layered with OPI Last Friday Night. Then I applied some blue tape diagonally on the accent nail, and painted the black stripes with Essence Berlin Story again.

I'm not really proud of it, as you can see I didn't verify if the tape was well stuck on my nails, that's why I have those unpretty wavy lines :(

But now I know that, I can provide you some tips:

- your base polish has to be totally dry. Do the tape mani the next day, or apply a fast drying top coat like Seche Vite, or your base color will adhere to the tape when you remove it.
- verify the tape is well stuck, especially near the cuticles, with an orange stick or tooth pick. Bad stuck tape will result in something like I had in the pic above, you don't want that :p
- remove the tape stripes immediatly after a nal is done, if you wait for it to dry the polish will comme with the tape.

You can use any type of tape for this, but I prefer blue painter tape because ... it's blue ! Unless you use a dark blue polish, the blue tape makes it easier (imo) to see what you're doing. It's easy to find in any shop that sell painting material.

Well, here are some more pics, I took a close shot of my thumb 'cause it was better done than the ring nail :) (the gliters on it are from China Glaze Shooting Stars, I wanted to try it then)

I haven't show you that black polish yet, it's from Essence I Love Berline LE. It maybe my favourite black, it has a good coverage and dries fast despite it's a bit thick. I love to use it for nail art, french manis and tape manis, but it was the first time I used it as an almost full mani :)

So, what's your advice?
Have you ever tried tape manicures or do you plan to try it ?

Have a nice day :)

Born Pretty Story Review: striping tape

Hi dear readers :)

As I told you recently, I started a partnership with Born Pretty Store. They offered me to get some free items and one of the stuff I chose was a glitter striping tape.

My first experiment with striping tape some months ago was not really good, I did not even post the pics here. The tape was a bit stiff and didn't stick enought on the polish base. After only a few hours of wear, the borders started to peel off and I had to remove my manicure.

I was sceptical but I decided to get those from BornPrettyStore anyway and did this manicure with Essence Twins Bella & Edward:

I chose the striping tape in "glitter", which is a holographic pattern, shiny and pretty.
At first try, I was glad to see the tape was flexible, which made it easy to place. It was also easy to remove and replace it in case of error, but I guess striping tapes are fragile and need not to be handled too much.
It was well stuck on my nails and I just had to push the borders a bit with an orange stick before I apply a top coat.
On the third day of wear, one stripe started to remove but I had no other problem until the polish started to chip seriously, then I removed everything before it started to look bad :p (after 4 day of wear)

If you like striping tape or would like to give it a try, I recommand these ones ! You can find them on BornPrettyStore for 1,73$, which is a good deal with BPS free shipping worldwide :)

Now, let's see how to proceed for this nail art:

- Apply a base coat to protect your nails
- Apply one coat of sheer natural pink or beige, or whatever you use for a french manicure. I used Catrice Rock Barock (Urban Baroque LE).
- Put some scotch or Blue Tape diagonally on your nails. I placed it so the polish hides my whole tips.
- Apply one coat of polish (I used Essence Twins Bella) and gently remove the tape immediatly after.
- Allow your colored polish to dry, then apply one piece of striping tape, following the line you made with the scotch tape. Leave a few millimeters of striping tape, I think it's easier to cut it after than to calculate the right lenght.
- Apply another piece of striping tape like if you want to make a french manicure.
- Apply glitter polish, I used Essence Twins Edward.
- If needed, push gently on the ends of the striping tape to make them stick strongly
- Apply top coat, you're done :)

Do you like it ?

Have a nice day :)
