Old Patterns Revisited in Paris

¡Bonjour, amiguitas! El otro día os contaba que parece que lo único que hago últimamente es coser patrones repes, algunos que he usado en verano de los que he hecho una versión invernal. 

Por miedo a aburriros con tanta repetición, y ya que las últimas fotos fueron más bien de andar por casa, he buscado algo que fuera diferente, no sé...¿Qué tal París como cambio de escenario?

Bonjour, my friends! I was telling you the other day how  all I do is repeating patterns and that it wasn´t a good idea to bore you with what I´ve showed you before. Well, what about a change of scenary to make it a little bit more enterteining for you?  Paris seems like a good idea, n'est-ce pas?

Se puede una agachar con ella en el POMPIDOU sin problemas.

You can crouch down in the middle of the POMPIDOU, no big deal.

Efectivamente: cuarta versión de la falda Vogue 1247, en pana un poco elástica. Tampoco he alargado el bajo. Ya me empiezo a acostumbrar a enseñar pierna en invierno.

Indeed, it is the FOURTH version of Vogue 1247, in a quite elastic black curduroy. I didn't lengthen it, I'm kind of getting used to show some leg in winter.

¿Como vais, corazones? ¿Enamoradas y eso?

¡Que bien, como me alegro!

Pues yo aquí, enamorada de la moda juvenil (mini, mini)  y de la costura también, pero nos estamos dando un tiempo. A veces quedamos para tomar un café y salen cosas como esta falda, o una chaqueta, y casi todo es repe, así que no me parece que os pueda interesar mucho.

La tela tiene una historia: Las amigas de PATRONPEDIA quedaron en Sevilla y entre risas, telas, finos y comidita rica, se les ocurrió comprar una tela dificil, y repartir medio metro a cada una, a ver que se nos ocurría hacer. Yo no estaba, pero Maria José de COSIR COSER SEWING me mandó la mía. La experiencia ha sido muy bonita y me encantaría repetir.

Pensé en usarla como panel para una sudadera, pero después me dije: Medio metro es lo que necesitas para hacer tu falda favorita con sus bolsillacos, y ya no pensé más. Que me canso.

Hello ladies!

Are you very much in love today? I hope so!

I am. I´m in love with sewing, but lately we are giving ourselves some time.

Sometimes we go out for a coffee, and I make something like this skirt. But the things I make are repetitive, so I don´t feel the need to bore you with them.

The fabric has a little story. You see: the girls from PATRONPEDIA got together in Sevilla some time ago and decided to buy a "difficult" fabric. Half a meter for each of us. I wasn´t there with them but Maria José from COSIR COSER SEWING, sent me my share.

I thought of turning it into the front pannel of a sweater, but then I thought of my favourite skirt pattern. I couldn´t make it longer by 10 cm, as in my previous versions

I´ve gotten so many compliments wearing this skirt, that I´m finishing my fourth!

V 1247

Mother-Daughter Coordinates

Todo empezó con la camisa que veis en vuestra derecha. Una monada del H&M que le regalaron a mi niña. Y yo quería una igualita...¿Que suerte saber coser, eh?

Hice una versión de prueba AQUI/HERE En esta solo tuve que mejorar la curva del frente para anudar. El patrón es casero.

It all started with the little shirt on your right. A very cute thing from H&M that my mother-in-law bought for my daughter. I just needed the exact same thing in my size...Such luck to be able to sew sometimes, huh? ;)

I made a first version in white HERE, for this one I only modified the curve of the front. It is a self-made pattern.

La tela es un algodón con cuadritos vichy, a la que le añadí el contraste del cuello en lino color coral, y un detallito "cariñoso" en el bolsillito. Costuras francesas, terminación de las sisas con bies y el bajo con un dobladillo pequeñito.

The fabric is gingham cotton, with a strip of coral linen for the collar stand...and an embroidered little heart in the pocket. French seams, armholes finished with bias strips and a thin hem.

Con el mismo lino del contraste del cuello hice una falda...seguro que habeis visto este modelo un montón de veces. Es VOGUE 1247, la he alargado 10 cm, como la última vez que la hice AQUI/HERE. Seguro que me hago una de invierno porque sienta superbien y necesita poquita tela.

With the same linen I used on the collar contrast, I made the most famous skirt in the blogosphere: VOGUE 1247

I made it 10 cm. longer like the last one I made AQUI/HERE. I have to remember to make a winter version of this one, because it is so flattering, and comfy and, very importantly, it doesn´t need a lot of fabric!!

Fuí buscando más lino en coral para hacer unos shorts a mi hija, para ir conjuntadas, y no lo encontré...peeeero, había un algodón finito, con plumeti que en cualquier ocasión hubiera usado para hacerme un top...los sacrificios que tenemos que hacer! 

I went looking for more linen in coral to make some shorts for Julia, but couldn´t find any...instead I found a very light plumetti cotton, that I would have love to use on a top for myself...but little one first!!

Para los shorts he usado Oliver&S Class Picnic, me encanta ese patrón, es muy ingenioso. Ya lo he usado AQUI/HERE. Esta entrada es de cosas repes!

Momento Paulova con arena en los ojos

Having a  Paulova moment with some sand kicked into my eyes :)

Compré esta tela que será poliester-algo para hacer un vestido para asistir a una boda. Al final no puedo ir, pero la tela ya estaba en casa. 4.5 metros de verdor con mucha, pero mucha caida.

Desde que empecé el curso de Craftsy de patrones tenía ganas de hacer una falda de capa, así que me lié la manta a la cabeza.

Después de todos los contratiempos, me doy cuenta de que hubiera quedado igual de bien si hubiera más sencilla: dos rectangulos fruncidos y ya. Pero como siempre, tiro por lo más dificil.

La tela tiene tanta caida que una vez cortada y cosida, las zonas que van al bies eran mucho más largas que las que van al hilo. Entre 10 y 15 cm. de diferencia.

Después de dejarla "reposar" sobre el maniquí más de tres días la falda seguía creciendo. La recorté con bastante dificultad y le hice el dobladillo. Otra trabajera.

Antes de eso, la sola idea de ponerle cremallera a esto me daba taquicardia. así que en un golpe de ingenio (está mal que lo diga yo, lo sé) la parte de atras se convirtió en la de delante, entretelé los bordes y le puse unos corchetes de "martillo".

Tuve que añadir uno de los normales entre el 1º y 2º porque el peso de la falda hace que se abra el esa zona.

I bought this poly-something fabric to make a dress for a wedding. In the end I am unable to attend, but the fabric was already at home. All 4.5 meters of green and drapey stuff.

Since I started the Crafty classes I wanted to try a circle skirt, so that´s what I did.

After all the setbacks, I realized I could have get away with a gathered skirt instead, but I never take the easy way, do I?

This has so much drape that once sewn the bias parts were much longer than the grain bits, by 10-15 cm.

I let it set for three days on my dress form them cut all the same length. Well, it is still growing somehow!

Before hemming I thought that putting a zipper was going to be a hellish experience so I made the back into the front, interface the whole length and  put some hammer-on snaps. I think this was the best thing I could have done!

I had to add an invisible snap between the first and second, because it opened too much.

Costuras francesas y mini-dobladillo. Para hacerlo pasé un hilván y fuí frunciendo y remetiendo sujetando con otro hilvan...puf! Mis hijos al ver la tela sobre el suelo con el patrón encima pensaron que iba a ser una tienda de campaña. La de la foto es la cara de un niño desilusionado.

French seams and a thin hem. To make that I had to baste, gather, then baste again  and sew...a lot of work!

When my kids saw the fabric on the floor with the pattern on top, they thought I was going to make a tent for them to play. This is the face of a dissapointed boy.

Self pattern for Spring-Summer ´14 trends...at least three of them!

¡Hala! Ya está terminado el exámen. Creo que ha ido bastante bien, pero hasta el 30 de Junio no tendré los resultados. Así que ya tengo más tiempo y poco a poco me iré poniendo al día con vuestros blogs.
Vamos al tema:

Las Tendencias
He comprado revistas de moda ultimamente (bueno, al menos una, pero venía con otra de regalo ji,ji) y he encontrado unas cuantas tendencias que me encantan o me parecen interesantes, me encantan las faldas con volante en el bajo en todas sus versiones.

The Trends

I´ve been buying some fashion magazines lately ( mmh, well at least one of them) and I´ve found some of the trends for the season really pretty or interesting.

 Love the flouced skirt in all its versions

Las rayas siempre vuelven en verano...y ¿a quien no le gustan?

The stripes, always making a come back for the summer. Who doesn´t like stripes?

Y el top cortito. Este es interesante...¿Cuánto tiempo ha pasado? Me acuerdo que yo los llevaba de jovencilla, junto con Madonna, Whitney y las chicas de Bananarama. ¡Si no enseñabas el ombligo no eras nadie!

And the cropped top. That´s the interesting one. How long has it been? I remember wearing cropped tops in my teenage years, along with Madonna, Whitney Houston and the Bananarama girls. 

Después de darle vueltas a estos temas me compré uno piqué a rayas y otro blanco y me puse a trabajar.


So I got some white and stripey piqué and set to work.

My Take. Mi Versión

Ultimamente os estaba comentando lo del curso de patronaje en Craftsy, lo bueno que es, todo lo que estoy aprendiendo y bla,bla,bla...pero todavía no os había enseñado que no fuera una muselina. Después de crear el patrón base viene lo divertido. La manipulación de pinzas es muy interesante y estoy deseando terminar de empaparmela bien para pasar a la clase de diferentes tipos de cuello. 

I´m lately going on about Suzy Furrer courses over at Craftsy: how good they are, how am I learning so much..blah,blah,blah..but never really showed you anything made in "real fabric"

After the Slopers, where you get the base for the rest of the courses, comes all the fun. I find dart manipulation fascinating and I can´t wait to get to the different necklines!

¿Lo veis? manipular pinzas es divertidísimo, y puedes crear muchos efectos. Aquí pasé todas las pinzas del top a una "linea de estilo" que va desde el pecho al cuello diagonalmente. En el bajo corte en una ligera linea curva desde el centro del frente donde es más alta hasta el centro de la espalda donde es más baja
La pinzas de la espalda va manipulada hacia el centro abajo, tambien en diagonal para continuar con el estilo del frente.
Aquí podeis ver el puzle que es mi patrón.

See? Dart manipulation is fun! I dumped all the darts into a style line from the neck to the high figure point, then drew a slight curve on the bottom of the pattern that is higher on the center front and continue towards the back in a slight downwards curve.

The back waist dart is manipulated to the center back in a diagonal and the shoulder dart goes into the armhole.

Then I drafted the facings, here is my puzzle for your enjoyment. :)

Admito que me emocioné con la falda. Quería volante y ya lo tengo pero a veces lo que tú quiere no es necesariamente lo mejor para tí, creo que sabeis a lo que me refiero...

Sin embargo, hacer el patrón resultó muy entretenido y didáctico. El volante lleva vistas, para que quedase más levantado. 

I admit I got carried away on the skirt part. I wanted a flounce and I got it, but sometimes what you want is not the best for you.

 Nevertheless, making the pattern for the flouce was very enterteining!

And it has facings for a stiffer look.

Seguro que vosotras, avezadas costureras habeis visto la pifia de la cinturilla. Cuando estaba a mitad de trabajo me dí cuenta de que esta falda no es para mí, demasiado femenina, demasiadas lineas curvas, demasiado corta...¡Vamos que no! Ha estado a punto de terminar en el cubo de la basura varias veces pero la verdad es que me dolía tirar el dinero que gasté en la tela. Y ya sabeis lo que pasa cuando un proyecto no te emociona, que no le pones mucho interés. Ahora tendré que arreglar la pifia y santas pascuas.

Oh, yes! You spotted that lousy waistband closure! When I was half way through the process of making this, I realized it was not a good look on me, too girly perhaps, then the fabric was stiffer than the one I used for the muslin and it was too tight. I opened the seams a bit. Nope. I was about to forget about it and make an A-line instead but thought of the money I´ve spent on the fabric...and I finished it half-heartedly. Now I´ll have to tackle that band!

Y esto es lo que llevé para el MMM ´14 el dia 16...haciendo trampa porque enseguida me quité la falda, me puse unos shorts y una chaqueta y ¡hala, a pasear niños a sus actividades! Si no me la quito igual en lugar de a la piscina me los tengo que llevar a un cocktail o algo así.

And this is what I wore for M.M.M. ´14 on the 16th. Cheating a bit. As soon as I finished with the photos I put on my denim shorts and a jacket and off I went driving the kids to their activities, otherwise I should have take them to a cocktail party or something!

The Inverted Box Pleat Skirt

¡Hola! Aquí estamos otra vez.

¿Ya os había contado que estoy liada con las clases de CRAFTSY? Pues eso.

He echado muchas horas de ver, tomar notas, hacer números (que yo soy de letras, nenas y eso está en pulgadas!) echar lineas, que si el patrón base que si el "sloper" que si el "ease". (Ni idea de como se traduce eso)

Total, que después de unas cuantas muselinas, y dentro del curso de las faldas Patternmaking basics: The Skirt Sloper he hecho esta falda que ya se ha quedado con el nombre "Falda de Profe de Inglés" En realidad es una prueba y usé una tela a la que tengo un poco de manía, pero una vez hecha ¡oye, que me ha gustado! Que me veo yo como muy profesional...

Did I tell you I´m really busy with some CRAFTSY classes? Well, I am.

I´ve been watching carefully, taking notes, taking measures, doing my math, drawing lines, drawing a moulage, a sloper...the works! 

After some muslins and for the class Patternmaking basics: The Skirt Sloper I´ve made this skirt. It even has a name "The English Teacher Skirt". It is really another muslin, made of a fabric I didn´t like much, but once finished I quite like it! It makes me feel very "grown up" very professional! :D

Ni siquiera está forrada, pero he terminado las costuras y el bajo con bies.

Una de las cosas que podían ir mal es que el pliegue quedase abierto cuando estás de pie. ¡Prueba superada!

It is not even lined, but I finished the seams with bias tape.

One of the things that could go wrong was that the pleat wouldn´t close when standing...check!

La costura del medio ha quedado un poco "fuera de hilo" pero es un error de corte. No quise meter la costura para arreglarlo un poco por si me cargaba el pliegue. Recordad que es/era una muselina...

The center seam is a bit off grain. It is a cutting mistake. I didn´t try to fix that sewing it because I thought it would affect the pleat. Remember it is/was a muslin

La vista lateral no tiene nada de especial, pero al llegar a la parte de atras... ¡Horreur! ¿Que son esas arrugas horizontales debajo de la cinturilla?

Y más importante: ¿Porqué pasa eso?

The side view has nothing remarkable but when we get to the back... What it that! What are those horizontal

wrinkles under the waistband?

And most importantly why does that happen?

¿Puede ser que he subido un par de kilos desde que me tomé las medidas? ¿Puede ser que tengo una espalda rara,rara?
