Song signs of Hope

These signs with song lines keep cropping up in neighborhoods, offering hope or amusement. And that door and house number? Love it.

Nice Door

I'm always intrigued by interesting doors both in design and color. This neighborhood might be called Westfield or West Enfield or Tarrytown.

Iron Works Barbeque used to house an actual Iron Works. Can you tell from this door?

Blue Door

Lots of homes in Old West Austin and Clarksville accent their curb appeal with a colorful front door.

Old Bird

Spotted this vintage car just off South Lamar the other day. Enjoyed the juxtaposition with the wall of that business with the black checkerboard and red door.

Where Are These Doors?

These doors aren't in some stately old home in West Austin or shot from a trip to Europe. They lead to the Whit Hanks home furnishing center on West Sixth Street. We were going shopping for some very modern pieces at Nest Modern inside the center which is a cluster of mostly antique stores but includes Nest which has lovely sleek pieces.

Doorway to Music

We fancy ourselves the "Live Music Capital" here and whether you dispute that or not, there is something wholesome about a city that would anoint as a club in a strip center a historic landmark. The Continental Club on South Congress has been there for fifty years. We walked by early on a day when the doors weren't propped open to admit patrons and got this rather nice shot of the fancy door and its historic marker.

Today many of our City Daily Photo compatriots will also take on the doorway theme. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants.

Nice Door

This house on stilts in West Austin has what looks like a one-of-a-kind door.

Doors to the Future

These doors were painted back in some other era when this run down building on West Sixth was used for a club or something. The building looks like it is awaiting a buyer to be turned into something different for the future. Currently, though, the doors make me smile. I believe this is on the side of the same building.
