I can see my house from here!

 When we were at our friends' party Saturday night, I shot this photo from their balcony, looking back to the building where we live. It is the second tall edifice from the right. That is Republic Park in the foreground. During the pandemic, we would wave to each other from our balconies. The building at the far right with large dark areas is the Federal Courthouse. The cranes you see here are part of the construction project for a 44-story structure. 

New Bird in Town

Sitting on the balcony and noticed a new (and very tall) crane up at the site of a building where a small hotel used to be.

Building

Two cranes are up where there used to be a Hooter's Restaurant on Riverside at South First.

There Goes the Capitol View

A rather large building is going up across from a club we belong to on Sixth Street (The Headliners). I think the Capitol Dome may disappear behind this one.

Another Hotel Rises on Cesar Chavez

I believe this building at Trinity and Cesar Chavez which is getting way up there is going to be a Marriott property.

Changing View

From our balcony you see a crane between us and the iconic Frost Bank Tower. There is also one on the right side of the picture between the state office building and the building at Third and Colorado. These will alter our view once. again

Rising On Red River

This construction on Red River is getting started in earnest. I believe it will be an office building across from the Hotel Van Zandt.

Ten Years Later

Ten years ago today we started this blog with a picture of the Ballet Austin building which was under construction. That picture, looking east, showed the AMLI on Second building still under construction. Our building was just rising up looking the other direction. Looking west today from that spot, ten years later, you can see our building on the right, occupied now for about nine years. You can see a building under construction just to the left of that. This is the Independent Condominiums which will rise across the creek to be the tallest building in Austin. To the left of that, you can see the completed Seaholm Condominiums. The cranes across Nueces from the Ballet are for an office building called Third+Shoal. It's amazing what a difference ten years makes.

New crane in the hood!

This one is for the Hotel Zaza that will spring up in the new year or 2018 or whenever!

Cranes are strutting their stuff.

I love the compositions that cranes and tall buildings make here in the hood.

Towering cranes

Another view of Austin's crane invasion. It's fun for us to watch the projects going up around our home. One of these cranes is for the new library's construction.

One day last month I shot this picture of the clouds and the construction and the JW Marriott on Congress from just north of it on Brazos.

Cranes Return

There was a time when cranes sort of disappeared from the skyline. But things are actually going up again. Jackie shot this of cranes over near the convention center where a hotel is going up on one side of the street and some residential units on the other. Nice sky. too.
