Retro Tennis
Last Saturday Westwood Country Club had a wooden racket tournament and our head pro went all out with retro short shorts and head band. I didn't participate. An old lady (me) playing on a clay court with other 'women of a certain age' is retro enough.

That Was a Tough Match
This peacock seems to be dragging its tail feathers past a tennis court where some serious players are working out. Looks like he's beat. Mayfield Park is across the street from our club and sometimes the peacocks (and peahens and chicks) from there visit.

Tennis, anyone?
Here is the new tennis pro shop/locker room/clubhouse at our club -- Linda really enjoys playing tennis here and we have a dandy casual cafe in this facility as well. That means I can come over, get a good salad or sandwich, sit there and read a book and watch the players. Life is good. (I also work out every day at the main facility across the parking lot.)

The Commodore At Our Club
I took some photos Saturday morning at Westwood Country Club. That's where Linda and I go every day to work out, play tennis (well, Linda does that), eat, swim, sun, and socialize. As you can see, it's located on Lake Austin and it's the in the center of town, which makes it convenient.
Through the trees you can see our club's boat docks and just beyond them is the grand old Riverboat Commodore which has been an Austin institution since I was a kid. One of our members owns it, docks it at the club and makes it available for party cruises.
It always tickles us when people from out of state come to Texas and are amazed at all the water and vegetation we have in our environs. No-- it's not all a desert here!
Historical note-- my dad actually built these boat docks back in the fifties. They've held up pretty well!
