Old and New
The Hoffbrau Steaks on West Sixth is towered over by our building and The Independent (the top of which didn't even make my picture). Other newish buildings are also visible. This restaurant has been around since 1934!

Art Seen
This display was in a window on West Sixth in a row of bars. Old TVs and such. With images of video games? A label said it was a work of 'Art Seen Alliance.' As the calendar turns over into a new year, it is appropriate that we look back at old technology.

Just Do It!
Apparently, though, you have to go to the bar inside to get the magic elixir to do it. This was snapped on a cold day on West Sixth Street.

The Ape is Gone
A gigantic ape used to sit outside this shop on West Sixth Street. When I saw the monumental giraffe, I asked a guy in front of the store if someone bought the ape. "Three of them," he said.

Stark Tree
This metal tree sculpture outside the Cirrus Logic buidling on West Sixth lights up blue at night. It has a very wintery look. (But we've yet to have much evidence of winter here in Austin.) Thanks to Jackie for this one.

Don't Drink and Drive
New Year's Eve? I hope everyone stays safe out there tonight.
We were out having a snack at Ruth's Chris Lounge over on West Sixth one night before Christmas. I looked out the window and I saw a guy riding this fellow. Not the usual Austin sight in downtown (or anywhere else) but not unheard of to see it. Then when we walked home and there was the horse, tied to a bicycle rack in a No Parking zone by the Austin Ale House. (I've never been to this bar and grill. Now, I have to say, I'm a little intrigued!) Especially since a couple of days ago a facebook friend happened by and there were two horses 'parked' outside.

Entrance Level
This important gallery shows museum quality photographic work and is located on West Sixth. I love the historic feel of the place. We often walk past and sometimes go in to see what is being shown.

What?
Yes, we are in Texas and I know everyone thinks we see cowboys all the time. Not So. These guys (and their horses) were pulled up in a parking place in front of Wiggy's on West Sixth. I didn't have time to inquire about what they were doing as we were headed to a dinner reservation. But my reaction as I took this quick picture was much like the woman shown on the left. What?

New Shop Takes Shape
Next to the high-end ladies' clothing place Julian Gold on West Sixth, where ArtWorks used to be, a new Julian Gold bridal shop is taking shape. Right now there are just pieces of mannequins. ArtWorks has taken up residence toward the back of this center. I usually reserve the reflection pictures for my other, neglected blog but I'm being lazy today. The old ArtWorks location was subjected to many reflection pictures like this one on Visible Woman.

Abstract Woman
This abstract sculpture outside Wally Workman and Urban Roots galleries is very stylized and abstract and yet: it is a woman sitting down holding a bird, isn't it?

Hot Art
Love the title of the art show Wally Workman Gallery had recently: "100 Degree: Group Show." Great West Sixth Street Gallery.

Looks like he's sleeping
We are back from vacation, but this picture (like the ones you've been seeing for the last couple of weeks) were taken earlier in the month. This raccoon was seen on West Sixth. He looks like he's sleeping. But he's road kill. His nocturnal habits and sneak thief behavior came to grief with a car I assume.

Dressy Sculpture
We were walking by the Russell Gallery on West Sixth the other day and I found the work on display fascinating. The dress sculpture appear to be made of common objects (the colorful skirt obscuring my face is made from plastic dinnerware).

Russian Theme Girl
I've always wondered why this bar on West Sixth Street had a Russian theme and name. A few weeks ago they got some new signage including this sexy Russian girl (you can tell because of the fur hat). I have to say I've never drunk there but I guess vodka is a popular ingredient.
