Aural Sculptors - The Stranglers Live 1976 to the Present

Welcome to Aural Sculptors, a blog aimed at bringing the music of The Stranglers to as wide an audience as possible. Whilst all of the various members of the band that have passed through the ranks since 1974 are accomplished studio musicians, it is on stage where the band have for me had their biggest impact.

As a collector of their live recordings for many years I want to share some of the better quality material with other fans. By selecting the higher quality recordings I hope to present The Stranglers in the best possible light for the benefit of those less familiar with their material than the hardcore fan.

Needless to say, this site will steer well clear of any officially released material. As well as live gigs, I will post demos, radio interviews and anything else that I feel may be of interest.

In addition, occasionally I will post material by other bands, related or otherwise, that mean a lot to me.

Your comments and/or contributions are most welcome. Please email me at adrianandrews@myyahoo.com.

Stephen Beaumont has in recent months started to create some more extraordinary characatures and drawings of The Stranglers (and some other well known faces from the punk scene). Take a look at the updated slideshow that appears on the right of these pages.

These artworks can be seen here.

New Stephen Beaumont Artwork on Ebay

I have recently had an email exchange with Stephen Beaumont, long time Strangled 'Artist In Residence' as he was selling some prints of some caricatures that had not made it into the hallowed pages of Strangled (included in the slide show). He told me that he has produced a new caricature (above).

In his own words, ' I haven't drawn The Stranglers in 26years, so I thought I'd have a go......I don't draw like I used to back in '86 any more but I tried to match the style best I could. Cheers Steve.'

I think it's pretty spot on!

The Art of Stephen Beaumont

From the early '80s, the pages of Strangled were often graced with the excellent illustrative penwork of Stephen Beaumont.

Stephen's usually black and white work accompanied a wide range of topics related to the band (of course), as well as politics, Mishima, Indian Thug cults etc. Some of these characatures featured on the merchandise of the day, T-shirts, posters and lest we forget boxer shorts!

The the right of the blog I have collected most, but not quite all of Stephen's work, as it appeared in the pages of Strangled.
