double-sided adhesive sheets, glitter and a shamrock

When the nice guys at silhouette asked if I wanted to try their new double-sided adhesive sheets, I jumped at the chance.

My girls love glitter. In fact when I pulled out the glitter to test it out, they all went crazy and started grabbing paper and glue before I could stop them. We're looking forward to some fun projects in the future like sparkly easter eggs or halloween signs. I didn't have any of the super fine glitter, but what we had worked fine for now.

We decided to make a little sign for St Paddy's.
We started with a clover, sticking it right to a little canvas mat we had.

We covered it with green, then added {LUCKY} to the corner. Honestly, the sheets were a little harder to handle than I anticipated. I was in a hurry and with these you want to take your time. Once they touch a surface, they can't be moved. So, my C may or may not look a little like a G.

Despite that I am still a big fan. You would never be able to accomplish the same look with glue. I absolutely love the way it sparkles when I walk past.

I placed it next to our Pot O' Gold.

And since I am way behind on my Thank-you's for all help and gifts for the baby and made a few cards too.

A few recommendations, take your time, don't use this when you are in a hurry. Use fine glitter, it will fill in better. Also, I would cut with a little longer blade length then recommended.
Thanks Silhouette for another great product.

lucky

I consider myself to be a pretty lucky lady. I've won my fair share of prizes over the years. I've been lucky in love and have wonderful kids.  I would have to say almost all that I've hoped for and dreamed for in life has worked out for me...so far.

I wanted to share something I constantly remind myself that I am lucky to have.
You're Jealous right? This old trailer and all it's boxes make me happy.

Very Happy!
In all these boxes are Roxy's stash of fabric. Roxy's was a friend of my grandma's. She lived with her for several years after my grandpa died. Roxy was a fabric hoarded. Not only was an entire trailer full of boxes but there were more in the granary.

Roxy died a year or so ago and my grandma asked my sister and I if we wanted to go through the fabric before she donated it to the church.
Last spring we spent a few hours one night transporting the boxes into the house and sorted through it.
We found lots of treasures and lots of polyester.

She had almost every kind of fabric you can imagine.
plaids, felt, velvet, wool, corduroy, canvas, levi, wool, flannel, silks, vintage cotton prints, burlap, etc.
The boxes were disgusting but she had everything tightly wrapped in plastic bags so the fabric was in good condition.

I need to take some pictures of my loot, but I haven't taken the time yet. Here are few pieces I took pictures of that night.

Every time I finish a project made with Roxy fabric I say to myself "Thank you Roxy!"

All of these are projects made almost entirely of Roxy fabric.

My urge is to hoard the fabric especially the pieces I love, then I think of Roxy who never got to use the fabric she cherished. I'm lucky to have the fabric and I should use it.

I hope you all are feeling Lucky today too.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

St. Paddy's attire

I know holiday attire is cheesy and somewhat lame. I wish I knew why I still like making my kids wear it. For now I'll blame it on my mom and growing up in the 80's.

I walked past these plain green, $2 t-shirts and couldn't help myself. I wasn't sure what I wanted to put on them but I remembered I had a stash of green and white polka dot fabric.
Then I found THIS yo-yo shirt from thornberry

I really like the look of the sewed down edges on the yo-yo's

Of course I had to make matching skirts I wanted to use up all the fabric. What else do you do with green polka dot fabric?

They are very festive but could still be worn after the holiday.

HERE is a great tutorial for yo-yo's if your interested.

The oldest girl was at school when we took pictures, I'll have to add her later.

Happy St. Paddy's

Going out of town left me little time to get any St. Patty's projects done. But I was able to whip up this cute t-shirt last night. After seeing this one HERE, I knew I had to make one.

My favorite free decoration for any holiday is simply writing a message on our back-door blackboard.
And since two pictures doesn't seem right, here's another picture of my St. Patty's banner.

Have a GREEN Day!

A First For Me

I've never decorated for St. Patty's day. That ended over the weekend when I put up this banner. I wanted to share how I made the banners from my mother in law's party here. I figured I might as well make something festive while I was at it.
These banners are super simple. It only took me about 20 minutes to make this one.
*No cricut was used in the making of this banner.

Here is how I made them:

First I cut large circles from card stock, one for each letter (mine are 4-1/2").
Then I cut circles the same size from tissue paper ( I had four layers of tissue paper).
Finally I cut and a third circle a couple inches smaller with a letter printed on it.
(I printed the letters on the card stock first then cut them out).
* I used a circle cutter to make it go fast, but you can trace bowls and such.

Scrunch all your tissue paper circles up into a ball, then smooth it out again into a flat circle.
Next I put applied glue to my first layer.
Then I placed my tissue paper on top and twisted the middle into a spiral. I did this by pinching the middle and twisting the paper. You don't need to glue each layer of tissue paper down twisting the paper will hold it all together.
I glued the top circle into place. I cut slits with a razor blade on each side, about an inch in from the sides. Then I strung ribbon through each slit.
That's it!

Here is a list of parties I link to.
