Julie Nutting's French Flea Market - Scraps into Cards

Country Craft Creations Design Team Project

Well I have to admit I've had a hard time holding this video back.  As a lot of you know I've been trying to use the scraps from my projects up instead of sticking them away.  This not only gives me a bevy of cards or tags or whatever on hand it also provides lots of ideas for you to use your scraps as well.  As soon as I finished my French Flea Market mini I started in on the cards, I know me, once I tuck things away they rarely resurface, it's best for me to be creative when my desk is still a mess with all the project leftovers.  It didn't look like many scraps in that little box but as you'll see it provided 14 cards that I just love.  I think I like this set the best so far, oh wait, I seem to say that after each new set is completed.  I guess that's a sign that it was a fun, productive process.

This is going to be a harder one to share, I debated on if I wanted to share each card here or just a few so I think I'm doing a photo of each but no explanations.  On video (link below) I'll share the process of making half the cards.  If you don't want to watch the process (the video is long) I'll provide a skip to point at the beginning of the video to take you to all the photos of the cards.  This provides a couple of shots of the outsides plus one of the inside.  I'm sure you won't want to do exactly what I've done but it will give you lots of food for thought as to how you might use your scraps.  If you'd rather make tags all the cards could easily be converted into tag format.  Just a video note, I have sped the video up during the process so you wouldn't be with me hours while I decided what to do where.  If you need to slow the video to better see what I'm doing there is a cog (settings) button on the lower right, click on it and you'll see an option for Speed, when you click it you can slow the video down.  I hope that helps I know that some of my viewers prefer length to speed so I hope this helps everyone.

The main thing is enjoy, enjoy, enjoy the process.  Have fun, make it like a challenge 'how can I create with just the smallest amount'.  I'll start with my last card.  It was actually the last handful of scraps, already in my hand, posed above the trash can.  Then my inner crafty self said WAIT, you could just punch something out of all these scraps, so I grabbed my little heart punch and punched and tossed the remainder away, trust me there weren't many remainders!  Then I layered the base with the hearts one row next to the other.  I LOVE this card and I'm so glad I saved these scraps from the trash.  It really goes to show it doesn't take much to end up with something unique.

Enjoy!  The video and links to Country Craft Creations will be listed below.

A Cut at Home Design Team Project

Today I'm sharing four cards I've made using Penny Black's All Abloom stamp set.  I love this set of stamps!  I wanted to see if there was a method to coloring that I like best so I tried my Chameleon Markers, coloring with a paintbrush and Tim Holtz Distress Inks and doing a direct-to-paper with the Distress Inks. Sue Wilson Configuration Dies - Friendship Card

a Cut at Home Design Team Project

Sue Wilson has a new collection of dies out called configuration dies.  They allow you to place multiples of the same die cut together to form new configurations.  Today I'm going to share a greeting card I made with the Sue Wilson Milford Adornment die.

This die creates a lovely lace edge like the one shown above, but when combined with three more of the same die cut you can create a nice frame to house a photo or in this instance the mat with the shoe.  I chose to slice the sole and heel of the shoe to slip them over the die cut to give the appearance of the shoe stepping out of the frame.

The decorative papers for this card are from Heartfelt Creations All Glammed Up Collection.  The flowers are created from the Heartfelt Creations Blazing Poppy Petals stamp and die sets.

Please join me on today's video as we do a start to finish making this card.  I'll also share other configurations of the die cuts to give you more ideas of how to join two or more together.

Canvas Corp Crew and Words and Paintery Team Up Together

The Canvas Corps Brands Crew has teamed up with Words & Paintery for the January Challenge.   You were free to just let your creative side roam and use the colors and suggested quote as inspiration in any type of mixed media creation from an art journal page to a card.  I opted to make a card and had so much fun playing with all my new mists and papers.

I started with the Canvas Home Basics Beans & Bags Mix and Match Pad.  Oh wow if you haven't explored these pads yet now is the time.  You get 16 pages, stitched together at the top, of everything from printed fabric to heavy weight designer cardstock to burlap and canvas.  A little bit of everything to try and something to work with any project you might have in mind.  I'll link to all the products I used from the stores at the bottom of this blog post.

My card is a 5" x 6" created on a Kraft cardbase.  I've layered several of the pages from my Canvas Home Basics Beans & Bags Mix and Match Pad including the burlap (which I frayed) at the back, the printed paper, and my watercolored paper.

I used a combination of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists in Denim Blue, Rum Punch and Coffee shop with Canson 140 lb watercolor paper for my background and the colors in the challenge.  I'll show you on the video the effects of the mists on the paper.

The flower is cut using the canvas from the pad, I die cut it with Tim Holtz Tattered Florals BIGZ die.  On the middle petal layer I removed every other petal, then misted them all with Tattered Angels Rum Punch Glimmer Mist.  I inserted the brad in the middle and while the petals were still damp twisted them and allowed them to dry.  The little whispers behind are the threads I removed from the mat of burlap, see nothing gets tossed when your a crafter does it.

The hearts on the front and inside are Canvas Home Basics Tags & Ties.  On mine I painted them with Tattered Angels Roses R Red Glimmer Glam, ran them with the Swiss Dot embossing folder through my big shot and finally accented them with Tattered Angels Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer mist and Rub 'n Buff in Antique Gold.

I decided to use the mat I did on camera for the inside of the card, added the second heart and a stamp from Kaisercraft.  I hope you'll join me on the video I'll share how I made the card and a start to finish of the assembly process.

Thanks everyone for sharing your time with me!

Valentine Shaker Cards

a Cut at Home Design Team Project

Today I'm featuring two shaker cards.  If you've not done a shaker before now is the time to try. You'll love the effect.  I'll be doing the pink one start to finish on the video below.  Just a note I tried using some fine glitter and chunky glitter inside the red shaker card and ending up ripping everything apart, removing it and starting again.  The glitters tended to stick to the acetate instead of shaking around like they are suppose to.  I had even used my embossing buddy pillow across the acetate but they still clung, it just wasn't a look I liked.

Here's card one, it's done using Spellbinders Doily Heart Circle for the shaker part and Heartfelt Creations All Glammed Up decorative papers (the LOVE is from an older Bo Bunny collections called Head Over Heels).

Both cards include these darling little bows made from Spellbinders Tiered Multiloop Bow die set. This set has three sizes of bows and you can either cut them with the insert, creating the effect as shown on the bow top above, or plain like the tails above.

Here's the second card, this is the one I'll be doing start to finish on today's video.  I love pink and black color combos and this is no exception.  This is a really old paper collection from Heidi Grace but perfect for this card.  I used Spellbinders Shapeabilities Font One in Lowercase for the Be Mine sentiment on the inside.

Outside I die cut the word Forever from the Sizzix Thinlits die set from Tim Holtz - Friend, in script.
There are a lot of these word sentiment dies in the store, be sure and check them out.  I cut mine three times and glued them together to give more of a punch to the word and a semi-chipboard look.  All the circles were die cut using Tattered Lace Essentials Decorative Circles die, wow are these die sets a must have, this one has 19 graduated circles in it!

So come join me on today's video, I'll share tips, tricks and ideas for making a shaker card plus lots more still photos.

Sizzix Foxy Easel Greeting Card

a Cut at Home Design Team Project

Hi everyone, today I've got a little different style than what I normally do, it's a cute Foxy card using Sizzix BIGZ die called Fox #2.  I ran it through my Big Shot numerous times to get the different pieces to paper piece her together.  The papers are from the Tattered Lace magazine, I love that you get papers in each magazine.

Off camera I decide my little Foxy Lady needed a little more glam so I added some Bronze Stickles to her ears and Wink of Stella to her cheeks, tail and tummy.

There will be a complete start to finish on today's video along with more photos so I hope you'll join me there.

Tattered Lace Easel Card

a Cut at Home Design Team Project

I don't know why I don't make more easel cards, I love the look of them and they aren't hard.  Today's inspiration came from an assortment of Tattered Lace Magazines (links below the video).  Not only do you get free die(s) with each magazine you also get gorgeous designer paper, instructions for projects, templates and an huge amount of inspiration.

I had so many bits and pieces I'd cut out when playing and designing my card I decided to make a second one, this time an A2 card (the easel card is a 6" square).  Again using the dies and papers (along with a few other goodies from the store) for this second card.

Come join me on todays video, we'll make the easel card together, I'll share the fabulous, inspirational insides to the magazines and hopefully inspire you to make a few cards yourself.

Graphic 45 Mon Amour Gift Set

a Cut at Home Desgin Team Project

I know, this doesn't look like Graphic 45's Mon Amour collection does it?  I'm really giving you a sneak peek at a post I'll be doing next month.  We get this neat paper bags from a local produce market and I've collected quite a few of them.  When I'd finished my Gift set and card I went in search of one of the bags. Sadly there just wasn't enough of the Mon Amour paper left to decorate one so I hunted and found two sheets of this old Fashionista paper.  Voila a personalized bag.  So check back mid October for a full blown post about this.

Here's what was tucked inside my gift bag.  An altered composition book and password log book and  matching card.  Today's video will give you a walk through with the products I used for both books.
