Upcycling! Trash to Oh La La.

a Canvas Corp Brands CREW project

Recently I placed an order for some spices online and when it arrived it came in this bright, shiny, yellow box.  I think I was more excited over the box than what was in it.  From the first moment I knew I was going to have to alter that box into something fun and useable.

I know, I know, I throw you that great tease and then what do I do just give you this little snippet of a photo.  But you can already see the fantastic effet the High Impact Aqua paint made over the shiny yellow of the original box!  Pretty cool huh?  I'd love for you to pop on over to the Canvas Corp Brands Blog and take a look at the complete project.

Not only is there the transformed box but also the cutest little mini tucked neatly inside.  You're going to love how I've used the Architextures Collection to make this mini!

As always I've added a video to the mix, a complete walk through of the box and mini.  But wait!  This time I'm sharing a playlist of three videos, two are process videos, how to alter the box and how to make the mini so if you'd like to replicate my idea with any box you have lying around this will give you great food for thought.  The entire Playlist can be found here Upcycled Box & Mini Playlist

Please check out the complete blog post - Upcycled Box and MIni Book using Architextures Collection   over on the Canvas Corp Brands Blog.

My Infatuation with Tattered Angels High Impact Paints

a Canvas Corp Brands CREW project

If you follow me on YouTube, Facebook or here on Blogger you'll know I'm primarily a mini album and cardmaker, once in a while I'll throw in some mixed media.  Today I'm really stepping outside this safety net zone to share a wonderful product I've discovered.  Tattered Angels High Impact Paint.

I have this large metal sun that we got when we first moved to Southern Utah in 2008.  Two years ago when we moved to Southwest Washington I knew this fellow would have to be part of our outdoor decor.  He brought me many happy memories when I'd look at him.  The only problem was as the high heat of the Utah desert and the rainy atmosphere of Southwest Washington had really done a toll on him.  He'd faded and weathered and not in a very pretty way.

Trying to figure out what I'd use on him to give him new vitality that would stand the elements let me to the Canvas Corp Brands Store.  That's when I discovered Tattered Angels High Impact Paints. OMG I love these paints.  They come in small bottles (don't be fooled or scared when you see how small the bottle is) 1.35 ounces.  I had all these colors to choose from but actually only ended up using the Copper and the Antique Gold primarily, they are both Metallics.  This paint spreads like nothing I've ever used before.  I used 1 1/2 bottles on my sun, which is over 3 1/2 feet across!  It dries beautifully.  You can choose to put in on as a wash by adding more water or use it straight from the jar for more coverage.

I'm only going to give you this teaser photo here but please, pop on over tot the Canvas Corp Blog and read the full blog post with photos.  Take a look at the video below, I didn't do live, yep I was too lazy to haul my laptop, camera and tripod to the back yard.  I instead took lots of photos and will narrate you through what I did.  I hope you'll give these paints a chance when you're looking at revitalizing something around your house.  I can't imagine you won't be thrilled with the outcome.

Spritzing and Spraying with Tattered Angels Glimmermists

a Canvas Corp Brands CREW project

My project is being featured on the Canvas Corp Brands - The Creative Studio Blog today.  I'd so love it if you'd pop on over there and give me some love.  I had so much fun just playing and creating with the Tattered Angels Glimmermists.  Do you have some of them sitting on your shelves just crying for attention?  If so find them and start creating today, you'll be so glad you did!

Since I was really running low on Sympathy cards I choose to do a lot of those, you'll see them all on Video 2.  If you love watching the process check out Video 1 (links below) where I'll share step-by-step the whole process of making gorgeous backgrounds for your cards.  I also tried very hard to have one layer cards so they easily could go through the mail with no additional postage or worry of being snagged before arriving at their destination.  This is a much harder process for me than you might think.  I guess I like textures and bumps and bows and whatnot, but I succeeded on the majority.

Join me on the Canvas Corp Blog for the whole story and on the videos for the how to's and end results.  Thanks everyone, I so appreciate you all stopping by to see what I've made.

a Canvas Corp Brands CREW project

I think you're all going to want to pop on over to the Canvas Corp Brands Blog today and see this mini I've created.  Wow, oh wow have I fallen in love with Aga Baraniak's new collection Compose Your Life. This is such a different collection printed on many different weights and textures of papers, some of which is printed heavy mixed media paper.  While some of the coloring has been done for you there's still a large assortment of papers just waiting for your personal coloring touches and techniques.  A great assortment for any crafter. Click here or on the photo for the Canvas Corp Blog Post.

I have a complete video walk through of this mini here

And as an extra bonus this was created using my Loose Spine Mini tutorial series.  So if you're interested in making a mini with a similar design check out my playlist here

Upcycling Paper Cores

I had the best time upcycling these thick heavy cardboard cores my niece brought me.  She works for a grocery store and they get these daily.  They were tossing them until they discovered we might be able to do something crafty with them.  I've wanted something to house my markers in so thought this would be a good project to use them with.

As always you can check out the complete blog post over on the Canvas Corp Blog and my how to step by step video below.

7 Gypsies Journal - Mini

a Canvas Corp Crew project

Many of you are still just getting familiar with Canvas Corp Brands.  They have 3 separate stores, Canvas Home Basics, 7 Gypsies and Tattered Angels.  All three companies intermingle and play extremely well together.  A few months back I took one of the Canvas Home Basics journal, altereing it with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists and 7 Gypsies Architextures Parchment Rub Ons.  Then it went back in my crafty space, patiently waiting for me to say, ok let's finish you up.

I ran across it a couple of weeks ago and thought, oh I want to play again.  So using the 7 Gypsies 8x8" paper pad, Wanderlust, I created this canvas bound mini - journal.  I'm so happy with how it turned out.  It's being featured on the Canvas Corp blog so I hope you'll check out the full story here.

The journal innards are constructed with the bulk Kraft cardstock available in the store (all links to supplies will be at the bottom of this post.  I used 4 sheets, cutting them to fit the 5"x7" outer cover and stitching them though the middle.  You can see how chunky they got and how the outer edges of the journal expanded.  Typical for things I create, I always want to add just one more thing.

To keep the mini securely closed I made a belly band that closes with velcro strips, that way it can expand as the mini expands.  I adorned it with flowers cut from the collection (I used Tim Holtz Tattered Floral die for the flowers, one of my favs).

I hope you'll check out the video, it will share how and why I did what in the construction and then offer you many more still photos to inspire you to create your own canvas bound mini-journal  Don't forget when shopping in the store, if you live in the USA and place a $5 order your items are shipped for free.  WOW unheard of in this day and age.  Be sure to have a cuppa of something near by, once you start browsing the store it's really hard to leave, there are so many fantastic items just waiting for your crafty hands to get ahold of them!
