Neste volume a autora examina as pintura vascular e os relevos atenienses representando aos deuses mais frequentemente mostrados como músicos para reconstruir como as imagens sugerem os sons da música que os deuses fizeram. 

Incorporando as aportações de trabalhos recentes em estudos sensoriais, ela considera a análise formal juntamente com as evidências literárias e arqueológicas para explorar a cultura musical de Atenas. Laferrière argumenta que as imagens podem sugerir visualmente os sons da música dos deuses. 

Essa estratégia de representação, pela qual a visão e o som são borrados, transmite a natureza "inaudível" da sua música: como não pode ser fisicamente ouvida, cabe à imaginação humana fornecer seus sons e despertar o envolvimento multissensorial dos espetadores com as imagens.
