De sepulturas a assentamentos, e do campo de batalha a locais de sacrifício subaquáticos, armas que datam do Período Romano e da Migração foram encontradas há muito tempo em uma variedade de contextos por toda a região que forma a Polónia moderna. 

Este volume, pela primeira vez, visa reunir pesquisas sobre essas descobertas, reunidas ao longo da carreira do autor, numa abordagem sintética que vê as descobertas de espadas e outros armamentos analisados ​​num amplo contexto comparativo. O trabalho começa com um foco em depósitos votivos de lagos, aqui usados ​​como uma lente para abordar questões sobre estratégia militar e ritual de guerra de forma mais geral, antes de prosseguir para explorar as armas e guerreiros das Culturas Przeworsk e Wielbark, bem como lançar luz sobre as vidas dos Bálticos.

Sinopse: 

Inovações técnicas, como a fundição de ferro, exigiam recursos naturais básicos e habilidades manuais, bem como aceitação e necessidade social para se espalhar. Este volume examina os primórdios da fundição de ferro na Polônia na área da cultura Przeworsk, que começou na Idade do Ferro pré-romana mais jovem no século II A.C. deveria mentir. 

A investigação se move em um campo de tensão entre diversas evidências de objetos de ferro de sepulturas e possíveis evidências de fundição de ferro na área polonesa. De acordo com o estado atual da pesquisa, no entanto, a origem do ferro na cultura pré-romana de Przeworsk não pode ser ligada a uma produção de ferro local ou regional pronunciada, mas sim baseada em redes de comunicação e troca tanto em um nível intracultural quanto intercultural. nível, especialmente com a cultura La Tène. 

Não foi até a transição para o Império Romano que a evidência do início da produção de ferro em larga escala na Silésia e na Mazóvia se tornou mais evidente. Este aumento da fundição de ferro desde o início do Império Romano não é um fenômeno isolado na área da cultura Przeworsk, mas um desenvolvimento que pode ser visto em muitas regiões do Barbaricum.
