LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS - ATC TICKET JOURNAL with FOLDER & BOOKMARK

Spring has sprung at AlphaStamps with the April Spring themed kit.  I’ve used some of the items from the kit plus other AlphaStamps products to create a Language of Flowers folder containing an ATC ticket journal and bookmark.

With a project like this, dimensional embellishments are not an option as the journal needs to fold up to fit inside the folder.  No worries though, instead I’ve used layers of images to add lots of detail.

In addition to all of the lovely older and new AlphaStamps collage sheets, I used my new Nature’s Creatures collage sheet.

Further down in this post you’ll find all of the details on how I put this piece together and the lovely images I used.

NEW NATURE’S CREATURES COLLAGE SHEET

This sheet is packed with nature’s small creatures such as birds, butterflies, bees, dragonflies, and snails.

THE DETAILS

I started by covering the ticket journal with Nature Garden Meeting a Fairy Scrapbook Paper .  I used this paper to cover the folder as well.     

Next, I added images from the Mix of Spring Beauties,  Vintage Sepia Children, and the Lovely Sepia Ladies ATCs collage sheets.  Each image is framed using an image from my Vintage Frames Set Download.

For embellishments, I used the Seed Catalog ATCs and Bouquet collage sheets

To accent the flowers I snipped off leaves from a green leaf garland and stitched leaf ribbon.  Lastly, I added birds, butterflies, dragonflies, and snails from the new Nature’s Creatures collage sheet.

I used more of the decorative paper to cover the folder.

I cut away some of the bottom of a large tag, covered it with the Garden Tools scrapbook paper, added an image from The Language of Flowers collage sheet and the bee, butterfly, and snail from the Nature’s Creatures collage sheet.  The tassel at the top is from my stash.

Before adding the images on the front and back, I attached a ribbon to serve as a closure.

The front cover is decorated with another image from The Language of Flowers collage sheet along with more flowers (on the back as well) and nature’s creatures.

Language of Flowers Book – Banners For Your Use

Below are the banners I used in the Language of Flowers ATC Book.  Feel free to download them for your personal use.  To download an image, click on the image to expand it, right-click and select Save As.

For this ATC I tore layers of paper and curled the edges.  In the opening I inserted a stickpin that has ribbon twisted around it.  I used lots of flowers and flower fairies to further embellish the card.

Language of Flowers ATC Book

Continuing on with Alpha Stamps May theme of “Language of Flowers” is a super simple to make ATC book.  The ATCs makeup the pages of the book and are connected with jump rings.  The cards accordion fold and are held together with ribbon.  The first ATC in the book also serves as the cover.

This is a great project for a swap.  Each swapper creates a set of ATCs and keeps one which they use as their cover.  Then they receive cards from other swappers which become the other pages of the book. 

 

In the picture below, you can see the placement of the jump rings circled in black.  I started by punching the holes in the first ATC on the left.  I then used the punched holes to mark the holes in the second card, insuring that the holes in both cards matchup when they are connected with the jump rings.  I continued marking the holes in the next ATC using the holes already punched in the previous one.

The ribbon used to close the book is attached to the first ATC (that is the front cover).  Attach the ribbon before adding the decorative paper etc. to the ATC.  In the picture below, you’ll notice that the ribbon is shorter on the right side than on the left.  When the book is closed by accordion folding the ATCs you will need extra ribbon to reach around the back of the book.  I usually use more ribbon than I need and trim the excess after the bows are tied.  I used two ribbons in this example as the ribbons were thin.  If you have a larger ribbon you can use just one.

Note in the pictures below, how the ATCs are folded to close the book.  A few things to consider when creating your book are:

• You need to use an even number of ATCs (this includes the front cover ATC).
• Stick to thinner embellishments for the inside ATCs but you can go crazy on the cover.
• You can have items that extend past the top and the bottom of the ATCs by not the sides.

In the pictures below, you can see the ribbon wrapped around one side and tied on the other side.

I also like to decorate the back of the last ATC so that it looks pretty when the book is closed.

Language of Flowers

It’s all about the language of flowers over at Alpha Stamps this month.  This theme is a take on the Victorian Era of communication in which various flowers and floral arrangements were used to send coded messages, allowing individuals to express feelings which otherwise could not be spoken.
