Baby Greetings

WOW!
Where did the day go? I must have thought about posting this card 5 different times today and then got side-tracked. Dont you hate it when that happens? Well, I have 35 more minutes left in this day here in Utah so I suppose technically, I still posted on Wednesday, lol.

Anyway, here is a simple baby card I made to show ya'll how easy the Newborn Blessings set is to use.



I just stamped the baby and the gift basket, colored them with Copic Markers and did alot of layering. I used some gingham ribbon and a piece of our 1" wide satin Ribbon from May Arts to make the side treatment. And that was that. Just change the colors up for a girl...easy peasy. Hope you like it.

In keeping with my posting 1 day per week, I am sharing this little monster card I made. I have to admit my 2 favorite colors have ALWAYS been green and purple...ever since I was little...so my germy little monster had to be green with purple spots, lol! Hope you like it!

Got Germs?

WOW, yesterday's Hop was fantastic, wasn't it? Super job and a big thanks to all.


Today I have a different kind of card to share...has flu season got you down? Know anyone who is under the weather and could use some cheering up? Our new stamp set, Monster Medical, is perfect for creating fun, light-hearted get well cards. Since I've had the creative 'bug' lately, I had some time to make this card for a friend.


I see these 3 guys from the set as little germs under a microscope and tried to convey that in this card.


Each little germ is popped up on dimensional dots and so is the ring of blue around them...it is a cool effect, in real life. I tried to show it a bit better in this close up so hopefully you get the idea!

I also got to use my brand new Cuttlebug for this card...yes I said new. Believe it or not I have been putting off buying one ever since they came out! But Holly's tutorial from last month (Faux Mosaic Tile) pushed me over the edge and made me have to have one. Thanks loads, Holly! ;-)

Celebrate New Moon...the Blog Hop

NEW MOON is out in theatres today and to celebrate this fabulous event we are hosting a TWILIGHT SERIES inspired BLOG HOP. Both customers and Design Team members were invited to participate in our hop and we have quite a list of blogs for you to enjoy today.

The only requirement for our Hop is that the participants must use Artful INKables stamps to create a project inspired by the Twilight Series. Some will be highlighting the AI Twilight inspired sets: Into the Moonlight and Fictionally Inspired. And others, like myself, will be showing you how other AI sets can fall right into the Twilight theme. I actually have 2 cards to share with you today as well as one by my very Twilight-obsessed daughter, Alea. I made 2 cards because after I finished the first, I decided I needed one that reflected the New Moon movie more. Though I like the outcome, this first card is more related to the final book in the series, than the second book.

GREETINGS FROM ISLE ESME
Stamps: Paradise Island and Fictionally Inspired (Artful INKables)
Paper: Artichoke, Violet and White from SU
Inks: Brocade Blue, Ballet Blue and Elegant Eggplant were used to brayer the background, Black Momento Ink was used for sentiments and palm trees.
Accessories: Dimensionals, silver cord, Prima Flower and blue brad, Copics used to color in the image, Brayer used for background, moon was masked and white Gelly Roll pen used to create highlights and moon reflection. I hand cut the banner and stamped the words on by bending the rubber to the shape I needed it to follow...yet another reason I love unmounted rubber! (It goes where I want but doesnt get distorted!)

To better reflect the New Moon movie and book, I wanted to create something that brings Jacob to mind, since this is essentially the time that we get to know him better. The turning point in Bella's depression is when she goes to Jacob for his help in rebuilding the 2 motorcycles she has obtained. So this card is for Jacob:

Winter Retro Hop

Artful INKables has some great winter-themed stamps that may not be new releases...but they may be new to YOU. To help make you aware of these fun stamp sets, some of the INK girls and I have gotten together a retro Blog Hop. Just hop along from one blog to the next to see some wonderful creations made with some AI oldies-but-goodies. Leave your comment on each blog and you will be eligible to win a retro-winter set of your choice. Names will be drawn on Monday, November 2nd.

My card was made using the set Frosty Mug Mates which features some cute little snowmen with mugs for hats along with a pine tree and some winter sentiments and accessories. A full picture of this set can been seen in our store HERE. The background was made using another retro AI set called Paper Snowflakes which can be seen HERE.

I made the background for this card using the Retiform Technique (directions can be found over on SCS in the resources section) on shimmery white card stock. (My version of the technique basically involves, triangle shaped post-it notes, 3 colors of blue ink and a brayer.) After the background was brayered I stamped on some navy and white snowflakes from the paper snowflakes set. The back card piece was stamped with some smaller snowflakes from the snowman set mentioned above. For the focal point I stamped the snowman head in black on more shimmery card stock and colored it with Copic Markers. The embellishment is a clear snowflake over a circle of navy card stock with a decorative button in the center.

Mail Bag!

I recently received these LOVELY cards from two great customers and I wanted to share them with you! Aren't they fabulous?!? I love it when I get creations from customers...it really makes my day!



This card was sent in by Barb Poole who was the winner of our very first Think INK challenge. She used stamps from our Snow Play set and some great embellishments, including some of our horizontal striped May Arts ribbon, glitter, crystal lacquer and Liquid Applique. Thanks so much Barb! I love it and it was so kind of you to take the time to make and send this lovely card!



The second card was made by Jacquie Peifer using the Steampunk Sarah set. This card has so many fun, bright details on it I could look at it for hours! So many pieces of the main collage element are colored so precisely and it goes perfectly with the Basic Grey paper she used. The compass pieces are popped up on dimensional foam and so is the greeting piece. Jacquie, thanks so much for sharing your beautiful piece of art with me! You are so sweet!

A 5 Hour Creation

Ok, so maybe I don't stamp too often anymore because it takes me FOREVER to complete a card, lol! I started this card at 2:30 this afternoon, using the sketch Challenge over on SCS and didn't complete it until 8:30. This is according to my daughter who seemed to find it necessary to ask incredulously every so often..."are you STILL working on that card, Mom?" She graciously allotted me an hour for dinner prep/eating/clean up and announced that my "five hour card" was finally complete! *snort* (Sadly, it wasn't the coloring that took all that time...it was the design of the card. Which is pathetic since I had a sketch to work off of!) Crazy!

The paper choices seemed to give me more agita than anything. I just didn't have anything that looked like the imaginary paper I saw in my head, lol. I knew I wanted to use our new Bird's Song set and once those things were finally decided upon, (Basic Grey decorative paper, chocolate chip card stock) I got to work. I stamped the leaf image on various colors of mottled paper and cut them out. Then I stamped the bird image on the paper vertically and colored it using Copic markers. It is colored to resemble a titmouse, one of various birds that has a bit of a crest on it's head. I "artfully" arranged the leaves to fall off the branch and gave them some dimension with pop dots as shown here:

Finally, I stamped the quote by Maya Angelou, cut it out with my oval cutter and added some interest by using some of our May Arts textured ribbon and a copper brad. The 3 pearl dots in the left corner were an after-thought, one by daughter told me was overkill. *grin*

So I hope you enjoy my creation, I hope the next time I stamp, it will be a bit less painful for all involved, lol! TTFN

Time Flies...

Happy Labor Day Weekend everyone. Sorry I have been MIA for a bit, but our Sr. DT has been doing a great job sharing projects to inspire and creating challenges for you. They are quickly becoming quite indispensable to me! (Which is wonderful since I have been busy dealing with a family with the flu, relocating my office and getting through the back to school rush!)

So today, was the first day in a looooooooonnnngggggg while that I have had a chance to create. In fact it was my first creation in my new studio, and I quite enjoyed both the process and the result. I was inspired by a sketch challenge that Sherry shared on her blog today which can be found here: Weekend Sketch. I loved the partial circle portion of the sketch since it brought to mind a clock face, which then made me think of my current favorite set, Steampunk Sarah. Then out came some great embellishments that I 'rediscovered' during my office move and this fun collage-y card was born:

Im afraid I dont have too many details to share on the materials used for this card. The clock themed paper came from a generic paper pack at Michael's, the large clock face is from Li'l Davis Designs, the gold one came from my stash and the little black pocket watch is from a decorative button pack I picked up somewhere. The other clock face is an image from our Steampunk Sarah set, as are all the other images and the sentiment. I used brushed gold and Chocolate Chip cardstock from Stampin' Up! and the clock hands are the prongs of brads, lol. I had nothing else to fill in those brad holes *grin*.

I colored Sarah and the watch-cog piece using copic markers and a Gelly Roll Sakura glitter pen. For the gear/cog piece, I added dimension by stamping parts of it 3 times and layering them over each other. Here is a closeup of that part:

There are actually quite a few popped up parts on this card as you can see in the picture below. I made the banner look wavy by rolling it around a marker in different directions, attached it under the clockface with glue dots and at one tip to the card. Sarah is also popped up using dimensionals.

Do You Have a Twihard Teen?

I certainly do! My oldest Daughter is obsessed with the popular Vampire series and was an active participant in the creation of our latest sets, Into The Moonlight and Fictionally Inspired. In fact she has created some lovely cards of her own using these sets so I thought I'd share some of her hard work with you all.



For this card she colored the images with sharpie markers (my copics are off limits to my kids, lol) and used versamark and heat and stick powder to make her background sparkle with glitter.



This creation was made to follow a challenge over at www.Twilighttuesday.com that asked crafters to show the relationships between certain characters in the books. She used copper embossing powder to create the paw prints along the edge of her unusually cut card.



Here she used colored pencils for the image and a strip of redline tape to add glitter to the main card. She also made her own background paper by using some card stock with red ink dripped onto it to look like blood drops.





These last 2 cards use a little creativity and the previously released set, Think Big. She added the book titles to the stack of books and the book the girl is reading to incorporate her obsession into her creations.

Now anyone with teens knows they can be really stubborn and independent so don't think for a minute I had anything to do with how these came out...they were all my daughters ideas and she executed them beautifully. If you have a teen or a tween who loves this series, maybe she would enjoy a chance to create some cards or scrapbook pages of her own with these stamps. And the charms can be used to create great twi-themed bracelets or like my daughter did, use them to hang on a chain...for a new looking necklace everyday of the week.

Get Caught Stampin' with AI

Most of the Stampers I know, love to be recognized for their creative works. There is just something about having another person praising their creativity that makes a Stamper glow with pride. So with this knowledge in mind, we will be starting a new program next week...The Weekly Featured Stamper.

This program will work in 2 ways. The first is, we may come across a card or project we love that someone has made using Artful INKables rubber stamps. In this case we will contact the person, ask permission to showcase their work along with a short bio or inspiration dialog. The second way is having our customers submit cards and projects for consideration. You can mail the card in, email us a link or just link to a comment you post on our blog. The only catch is your project must use our line of stamps.

I already have 2 WONDERFUL cards lined up for this program, but we will be needing more submissions soon. Wouldn't you like to be recognized for your creativity? Well get out your AI stamps and start creating...we want to see what you make!

Last Day of School

Today is the last day of school for my middle schooler and I'm SURE, this is the way she will be spending alot of her summer...that way she doesn't have to listen to us! LOL The other kiddos have another week to suffer through but they will be out soon enough as well.

This card was made using the recently released Music in my Heart set. It was colored using copic markers...as is my usual choice. Hard to believe that a year ago those fun markers use to scare me, huh? I was very intimidated by them, I have to admit! The DP is from Rusty Pickle and the ribbon was taken off of some packaging from one of my mother's day presents...talk about recycling! *grin* Oh and the colors for the solid cs are close to cocoa and sage shadow from SU.

Wonderful Things

Today I have a card to share with you using our new Boys will be Boys stamp set. We've gotten alot of positive comments about this set and I thank you all for your enthusiasm. Apparently good boy sets are hard to find and this one does work for boys of many ages.

When I use this set, I cant seem to help making the boy look like my son...right down to the red hair and worn jeans. I do have to say he usually isnt this clean though, especially if he has been out hunting 'critters'! He even helped out with this set some, writing 2 of the sentiments (including the one on this card) in his own boy-child writing.

The details of this card are pretty self explainatory. I colored using copics, did alot of cutting, used some great old dp from a SU scrapbook kit, some 1/8" stitched ribbon and some buttons. The escaping froggy is popped up on dimensionals as he hops away. And for the photo, I had to take the card out to our playground for the most appropriate setting, lol.

Pre-Summer Madness

WOW, long time between posts! I really dislike this time of year, it seems like we are just so busy! Im a devoted 'soccer mom' who's son just had end of year tournaments and parties followed by tons of tryouts for the next level teams and meetings for said teams. Plus my little dancer just had her recital this week and all my kids are working on end of year projects. I cant help thinking that school cant end soon enough but I know it wont help, lol. We will just move on to bored children that need entertained, summer day camps, more soccer practice, swimming lessons and vacation! *grin* You gotta just roll with it I guess!

I do however, have some fun things to share with you today...first of all a belated CONGRATULATIONS to Becky Fidelman who is the winner of this month's blog candy posted over on Holly's blog. She will soon be getting her four free new release sets in the mail!

Also, I took some time to make a card yesterday. I hope not to offend anyone but this idea has been brewing in my head ever since I drew the image.

I REALLY wanted to put a sentiment in the set like the one I wrote on my card but I chickened out! LOL I recognized that not everyone has my sense of humor. *grin* I do hope you get a kick out of it though...my 10 yr old son saw it and just took it at face value, with no idea it was a 'tongue in cheek' sentiment.

And lastly, I've been working really hard to bring you something fun and different next month, though we may end up getting it out a bit later than mid-June, like I had planned. Hopefully, you will consider it worth the wait. I'll be sure to update you as soon as I am more sure of a release schedule.

Today was a 'Sketchy' One

I did some Spring cleaning this morning and to reward myself for being such a good girl I spent the afternoon making cards. Somehow it makes me feel less guilty that way and besides, a WHOLE day of Spring Cleaning might kill me! LOL Both of the cards I made today follow the sketch challenge over on Splitcoast Stampers. I really liked this sketch because alot of embellishment is unnecessary...which leaves me alot of room to do what I love best...COLOR!



The first card uses the new AI Greek Gardens stamp set. I did alot of coloring on this one and I tried my best to make the columns and the fountain look like they are made from aged copper. I did this using Copic markers in BG13 and BG11, with a bit of patina added using E55. I actually stamped the column 4 times since it isnt tall enough to cover an A2 card's background and I cut them to make them look a bit taller. For the focal point I double layered it, added some square clips because they look kinda like a Greek key and beaded the foliage in the front, because I like tedious work, lol! It took a long time but it was time I enjoyed. Here is a close-up of the beaded area.
The second card didnt take me nearly as long but it was equally enjoyable because I had fun making the intended images into something else. I used our new Three Wishes set which has sort of an Arabian Knights theme and gave a couple of the images a different flavor. I made the genie's bottle into a vase and the sun image was stamped 3 times to create flowers. Coloring this was easy, I just used a deep yellow maker over all the image, and outlined it with a darker mustard color. Then I added mustard dots in the center, outlined a bit closer to the edge in dark grey and added more dots. Then to pull it all together, I used a lighter mustard around the petals, so it looks like they are part of the center. I drew my own stems and added some shadow, then Voila...a vase of sunflowers!



For the background, I just cut up some Marrakech paper by Basic Grey and glued it on the back layer with spaces in between to give it a grout-like look. To finish it off, I corner punched the mustard paper and added some orange and yellow jewels.

Thinking of You

Good day artful stampers! I am very pleased to hear that many of you are receiving your new release sets...and I want to send out a warm welcome to all of you who have just recently found Artful INKables. We are glad you are here and thank you for helping us grow.



I have a card to share with you today. I am slowly working my way through the new sets to come up with a few samples of my own, though I suppose that is why I have a DT, so dont forget to visit their blogs for continued inspiration. *wink* Anyway, I stamped the row of mailboxes from the new POST A NOTE set and colored them with copic markers. I wanted to make a vertical card so I cut only three mailboxes from the row and I also stamped the little bird (that comes with the set) on one of the posts. The mailboxes were then attached to a lovely piece of dp from the new Basic Grey Porcelain collection. The green wash on this paper lent itself so perfectly to create this scene, right down to an area for the ground to 'plant' the posts on. I used another piece of dp from the same collection for the triangle layering in the background of the card and the solid card stock is from SU!. To finish up I embellished with some prima flowers and fuzzy brads and stamped the sentiment.

Cards by the Half Dozen

Weekends are the busiest time of the week for me so even though I may have the best of intentions, I rarely get any stamping done then. However I do have some special projects to share with you to kick off the week.

My 13 year old daughter has been quite busy with my newest release of stamps and has created some special projects. She has been stamping since she was about five off and on but since she has gotten to middle school it has been more off than on. However, the two sets with the girls in them (Think Big and Berry Picking) have really intrigued her and she cant seem to stop making more cards, lol (Shameless enabling here: those of you who have teen and tweens should consider these sets for your girls!) So today I present 7 cards recently created by my crafty daughter. :)

Now as an artist, there are some things I'd change on a few of these cards but as a mom, I'm just so proud! She made these all without input or supervision by me. The layouts are hers, as are the color and paper choices. I'm especially impressed with the cupcake card where she masked the 3 and popped the large one! And the 4th card, the girls with black hair...I may have to copy that little tab idea (though I will be compelled to center it more, lol). A few of the cards have her own handwritten sentiments on them but since her writing is so pretty you might not be able to tell. Maybe I'll get her to write a few greetings for a set in the future!

Valentine's Puppy

It occurred to me yesterday, as my children busily prepared their school Valentines, that I hadnt yet made a card for my husband. So today, I sat down at my desk and looked over my Artful Inkables stamps to see what I could come up with. Now, since we dont have any Valentine's specific stamps sets yet, this posed a bit of a challenge, lol. I did, however, create the valentine above and I am pretty tickled with it!

Most of this card was made using our Top Dog stamp set, with the 'love you' sentiment coming from the Basic Sentiments set. I stamped the doggy on white card stock and colored it with Copic markers and then cut it out...and cut off his head *grin*. Then I stamped, colored and cut out the heart as well. Many circles were cut from many different colors of red and pink but eventually, I settled on the ones I used above (SU Real Red and Positively Pink). I stamped 'love you' repeatedly on the white circle and added a bit of decorative paper by Heidi Grace to my layers. To finish it all off, I attached the doggy pieces to the circle in the front with the head popped up on dimensionals and the heart stuck in between so it looks like it is being held in the pup's mouth. For a simple embellishment, I used some of the 1" wide Burgundy May Arts satin ribbon we carry in our store.

If it werent for the fact that I wanted to create a special homemade valentine for my hubby, I would have found this card hard to make...you see, I have our 4 soon-to-be-released stamp sets sitting here looking at me, begging me to use them! But alas, I have to be sure our fabulous new INK Girls get theirs and have some time to make their lovely creations before I can share them with you. Hopefully, that will be really soon but for the time being...I guess we will all have to wait a little bit longer for the big reveal.
