The Glittered Ornament

Welcome Back!!!

Yesterday over at Stamping Buddies in Cincinnati, Ohio, I taught a class showing how to make a glittered ornament. The ornament is stunning and really makes a statement. Easy to make, just takes a little time. Perfect for a handmade gift for someone special or this will look gorgeous on your tree.

Let me show off the end result.

I used lots of glitter and the poinsettia topper on this ornament is made using the poinsettia stap from the lovely stamp set from Sparkle N Sprinkle called Holiday Foliage - Set 475.  The glitter colors are Shell Pink G1022 and Parisian Mist G1037 (one of  my favorite greens in the Sparkle n Sprinkle glitter line)

I love the look of the poinsettias that come out during the holiday season in the pinks and other colors other than the traditional reds, so that's why I decided to use a few non traditional colors when making this ornament.

I will be repeating this class over at Simply Said Rubber Stamps  on Sat. Nov. 9 @1:30. If you live in the greater Cincinnati area and want to take the class please contact Simply Said @ 513-833-3852 to reserve a seat.

This class includes how to make a box, to store or gift the ornament. Easy to make, too!!

Boy, I just checked my calendar and Thanksgiving will be here a month from tomorrow. It's late this year (Nov. 28) and that means that Christmas will be 3 1/2 weeks after Thanksgiving, this year. It's going to be a short buying season if you start after Thanksgiving. I have things already bought so I best start to wrap and that chore will be done.

November will be a busy month for me, I have classes or events every Sat. in November. So  I will be busy getting those ready. December I have one event and then I will be taking off the rest of the month. But I will be getting ready to start out the new year with new classes.

I will be back soon with some class samples and a few other things that I will be making.

Thanks for stopping in

More of last week

Welcome back!!!!

In my last post, I mentioned that I went to Tennessee for a stamping convention. OK keep that in your mind for a minute and  let me say that I really like step cards and tri-shutter cards, flip cards, etc. but hate cutting them by hand, don't you. You have to cut the CS, measure, mark, and don't forget the X-acto knife, and cut straight lines. Now, I don't feel X-acto knife challenged, however these types of cards take time to prep and cut. And we all want things in a hurry and of course, you want the card perfect. Right???? OK, back to the convention.  I happened upon The Stamp Doctors booth. Well, The Stamp Doctor has designed a die for all of us who love the flip card design. In fact they have 2 die designs for flip cards. So, I spied these and I bought one of the designs.

This is the design I bought. This die is easy to use and it makes a really great card. There are three dies in the package. Plus the this design has been made to work with Spellbinders Labels Eighteen.

Let me share the flip card I made using this die.

I covered the ends of the card with DP. I also looked at some of the Sizzix dies that I have and saw this Joy die and determined it will fit in the label area of the closed card. Perfect for the sentiment.  I used Cobalt Blue Microfine Glitter to define the letters in the sentiment.(Got that sentiment on a tad crooked.)

OK, when you flip the card open, this cute snowman pops over.   I used a stamp from PrintWorks and it's an older stamp but I still love it. I added the blue oval to be able to make the snowman pop out at you. I added punched snowflakes and glittered them up to make this card glisten.

Here is a side view. This flip card design is darling and I love the fact it stands on its own.

Well time to prepare for a class on Saturday - A glittery Christmas ornament with a poinsettia topper and a box to store it in or to use to gift it!! I will share that with you on Sunday.

Thanks so much for stopping in today.

Last Weekend's Travels

Hi Everyone,

Last weekend I attended a stamping convention in Sevierville, TN. The weather was great and warm and no rain. I hate driving in the rain. I hadn't been to Gatlinburg for eons and it has changed ( more crowded) but still the same with it's beautiful mountains.

This convention was a small one but packed with great products and super ideas. Saw the new stencils from Tim Holtz, and the new punch boards were being demo'd at the Marco's booth. The Paper nest Dolls had a vast array of rubber stamps available to purchase. I picked up a few new stamps and some great dies from the Stamp Doctor. Saw some familiar acquaintances and had a wonderful time with special friends.  This week I have been playing with some of the new things I picked up as well as getting ready for 2 classes I am teaching over at Stamping Buddies.

Let me share with you one of the cutest stamps I bought at The Paper Nest Dolls.I decided to use some dies to just add some depth to the scene in this diorama of sorts. The great thing about this card design is that it's totally able to be mailed in a regular envelope. Gotta love that!!!

Wintertime

Hi Everyone,
Just a quick post. This tag is using stamps from an older Unity stamp set, Wintertime Let it Snow.

While making this tag I decided to do this one in shades of blue.

Winter..... it makes me think of ice skating, snowflakes, snowmen and many other images that pop into my mind.

Snowmen are so cute and fun!!!

Here is a closer shot of that poinsettia. I just used silvery blue shimmery CS  for the main bracts and instead of green leaves, I opted for white leaves. Added some glitter and here is my interpretation of a blue poinsettia.

I used:
Dies - Spellbinders - Layered Poinsettias S5-055
Punch - MS Caning Pattern - Punch all over the page
Stamps - Unity - Wintertime Let it Snow
Inks - Distress Ink - faded jeans,
Markers - Memento Tangelo, Tuxedo Black, Bahama Blue
Card stock/paper - White CS, Blue Silver Shimmery C, Dark Blue, Blue Gray Handmade Paper

Every Artist

Hi everyone and welcome back!!!And welcome to my new followers, too.

Recently I mentioned how orange is not one of my fav colors. LOL Well I guess I might have to eat my words. You'll see in a minute!! Now I guess that means I can wear those orange pants, but I am going to limit my wearing to Halloween. Otherwise I might be mistaken as an orange Popsicle. LOL

OK let me share a quick little project I made. And it has shades of ORANGE!!!, OH MY!!! imagine that. Well after all it's fall now!! LOL

I made a tag and it started out as white CS.  Next I stamped the verse and the image and then I sponged on all of the fall colors (.See, orange is in that tag.)  Next I cut a few leaves using vellum. I sponged inks made my bow and put it all together. I photographed it and was writing this post and I looked at those leaves and decided they needed something. Well you know what that means, time to add something to finish those leaves off. I got out some glitter and defined the veins and it was just what was needed. You be the judge.

Here is the same tag and the only thing I did was to glitter the veins on the leaves.

Those leaves look like leaves, now.

Here are the items I used:
inks: Memento- Cantaloupe, Desert Sand, New Sprout, Morocco, Olive Grove, Peanut Brittle, - Distressed Inks - Fired Brick
CS: White, Vellum
Spellbinders Dies: S4-158 Sunflower Set Two & S4-157 Sunflowers Set One (leaf from each set)
Stamps: Unity - Imagine It ( DD-706)
Sponge Dauber
Glue pen
Glitter - Sparkle N Sprinkle  Parisian Mist glitter - G1037
Ribbon ( from my stash)
Bow Making tool - Craft-Dee BowZ

Well thanks a lot for stopping in today.Have a great week!!

Get Well

Hi Everyone,
Happy Summer!!!! Well I have been busy giving my monthly classes and I also took time to actually take a class over at Scraps Etc.-KY. The class was so great. Karen Burniston was in town and she gave a fabulous class. We made 4 fantastic cards using her easy to use Sizzix dies that she has designed. I will be back in a few days to show you the cards we made.

In the meantime I have also been busy making a few cards for Sparkle N Sprinkle. I want to show you this one in particular.

I designed this card using lots of glitter and some embossing powder. The stamps are on the nicest set, called Swirls (set 497). Love this set

I decided to use glitter as a layering element and after I attached my two designer papers I added a border of 1/2" tape around all four edges of the card. I then covered the tape with glitter. Next I added a trellis piece and layered that on top of the DP.

I stamped the flower, heart and the butterfly using black ink. On the butterfly, I colored it using Spectrum Noir markers and then covered the image with glue and I covered the butterfly with Sparkling Snow glitter.
On the hearts I then traced the black swirls using a glue pen. I covered the glue with Meadow Spark Glitter.

The flower was covered in the center area of the image with VersaMark. Then I covered the VersaMark with  Shimmer EP, tapped off the excess and heat set it.(It's hard to see but its there. LOL)

All of the images were fussy cut and I used dimensional foam to mount the flowers and the hearts.

The sentiment was stamped in the same black ink and I used Spellbinders Labels Three to cut out the sentiment and the bordered piece under the sentiment.

Here is a review of what I used on this card:

Large Flower, Hearts, Butterfly and Get Well sentiment –Sparkle N Sprinkle stamp set 497Swirls
Adhesives: ¼" Tearific Tape- SAT01, 1/2"  Tearific Tape -SAT04, Brushable Glue - 540, Glue Pen - 053482384809

Tulips from the Garden

Hi Everyone,
I know spring is just about officially over but I thought you'd enjoy some tulips from the garden. These tulips are in a newer set over at Sparkle N Sprinkle. Aren't they lonely!!! They're in set 491.

I used a 6"X 6" white card and embossed it using Spellbinders Embossing Folder – Flora EL-009.
I stamped the tulips on white cs and colored them with my Spectrum Noir markers. Next I fussy cut them out  and mounted them on a green mottled card stock cut with the Spellbinders Spellbinders Beaded Squares – S4-315. I also cut orange cs using the beaded squares die. I added glitters to the beaded shapes on the cut outs, and to some of the embossed areas on the card. Next I added a bow made by using the Craft-Dee BowZ tool.

Products used:
Tulips – Set 491 - Sparkle N Sprinkle
Spellbinders Beaded Squares – S4-315

It has a song

Hi Everyone,
Last week I was busy prepping and delivering my card classes for the month. Now, since that's over til next month, I sat down and worked up a card for Sparkle N Sprinkle. I just received a few new stamp sets and I think you will like them. This card uses stamps from set 496, Bird Song. As soon as I saw  the bird on the wire image, I envisioned this card. Kind of reminds me of bunches of birds sitting on wires we all see from time to time.

First, I brayered the colors on my cs panel. I haven't done that in a while and it is a great way to apply color to your panel.

Next I stamped the birds, but since the bird image doesn't quite fit across the card, I just stamped it again to have the birds go all the way across the card. Next I just drew in additional lines to make it look like there were 5-6 lines. Easy Peasy.

Well that is it for today. Have a great week, I'll be back soon.

On a Bicycle Built for Two

Hi Everyone
I just received a new  stamp set from Sparkle N Sprinkle and I am really excited to show it to you.
This is the new set: Set 494 Bicycles  (LOVE IT) See it here

Stamp Set 494 - Bicycles

Bicycles are such great images.

I made a card that incorporated a handmade element and I thought you'd be interested in this card and how I made the tree..

This card was so fun to make. As I was putting the components together to make this card, I envisioned a tree over on one side. I had a doily on my table and as I was getting this card together I thought  the doily reminded me of the greenery of a tree. So that is how the tree came into being. That tree was so easy to make, so let me show you.how I did this.

Are you familiar with the Martha Stewart Circle Edge Punch?? Well this nifty tool will make a doily between 6" and12".

So I made a 6" doily and I used a green designer paper

Next I used a branch die.

I cut out 2 of the branches

And I positioned one over the other to look like a large branch jutting off the main tree trunk.

Next I trimmed off the excess and glued the 2 tree pieces together.

Now if you lay the tree trunk on top of the doily, its starting to look like a tree, isn't it.

The tree is sitting in the corner of the card so I cut off the excess of  doily.

Next I attached the tree top (doily) to the corner of the card.

Attaching the trunk is really making that tree come alive.

Slide the framed designer paper under the tree.

Now I added some leaf clumps by using pieces I cut from the remaining piece of the doily. I cut 4-5 round pieces using the scalloped edges.

I used dimensional foam and placed these over the tips of the branch ends.

Using dimensional glue I added green Flower Soft.

Now the tree is finished.

I just added a bicycle to the card to make it appear that it is coming out of the picture and I added the sentiment to the top left. This was a fun card to make and I hope you liked it!!!

Poppies

Hi Everyone,
Boy what a wonderful day it is here in my area. Really warm and sunny. Pretty soon we will be cutting the grass.I am hoping cold weather is a thing of the past for this year.

Last nite was the monthly club meeting and I gave the tutorial. This tutorial was part 2 of working with microfine glitter. Last month, part one revolved around stamping on microfine glitter and then coloring it with markers, alcohol markers and using watercolors. They all seemed to really like that tutorial. This month, part 2, centered on using outline stickers and how to use different colored glitters to "color" in the various ares of the outline sticker. The outline sticker I chose to use has poppies on it. We just used 3 colors and the ladies had a great time learning this phase of using microfine glitter.

I made a boo boo on mine. Imagine that, the instructor makes a mistake. LOL. I noticed it after everyone had left. So, to minimize the appearance of the error, I used silver microfine glitter for the background, instead of leaving the dull silver on the background of the outline sticker.

I love this outline sticker, it is one of my favorites!!! Thought you'd like to see my completed.card.

I used a corner swirl from Heartfelt Creations to cut out the silver cs. I also embossed the black cs just to add a little interest to this card.

All of the glitter I used is from Sparkle N Sprinkle. Their glitter is known as Velvet Glitter and let me tell you, it is a wonderful microfine glitter, and it does feel like velvet. Their Velvet Glitter comes in 17 great colors. I used:

**Black Suede **Gypsy Red **Luau Green **Sonic Silver**

Check them out here

I am working on a  post and it has a lot of pics to show you how I made a tree. You will have to stop back to see this one.

I will have the post ready for your viewing pleasure on Friday. Please try to stop back then. See you soon.

The Mushroom House

Hi Everyone,
Happy March 1st !!! Can you believe it. WOW does the time really fly! Today is the first of the month and that means its time for the next monthly challenge over at the Sparkle N Sprinkle Creative Challenges blog. This month the challenge is to use any color glitter on your project and upload it using the linky button.

The response has been great that besides the grand prize of a stamp set of your choice, there are now top 3 winners as well. The top 3 winners will receive a badge to display on their blog. Head on over to the Sparkle N Sprinkle Creative Challenges  blog to see who the winners are and to check out the March challenge theme.

Don't forget, there is a digital image that is given away each month to those who use a Sparkle N Sprinkle stamp or digital image that has been purchased. Here is the March free digi.

And here is the card I made using this cute digi

I used a few stencils to make my own background paper and I also added a chicken wire reversed stencil image from The Crafters Workshop in the white space of the Mushroom House. (I didn't like all that white space.) LOL This mushroom house would look so cute in your garden along with all the other mushrooms that probably grow there.

I hope to see your creation as an entry over at Sparkle N Sprinkle Creative Challenges this month.

I am entering this card in the following challenges:

Divas By Design - Anything Goes

Ruby's Rainbow - In the Garden

7 Kids College Fund  - Anything Goes

Simon Says Stamp - Anything Goes

Have a great weekend
