Challenge: Super Circles!

Hey!

Welcome to a fabulous new challenge! We hope you're ready to ink along with us! :)

This fortnight we're honouring the most super of shapes - the circle! We know, we know: hexagons might be so on trend right now, but circles still rock! Afterall, a hexagon is just a circle with straight edges and points, right? *wink*

So my brain got tickin' for this challenge and I started stamping the circular image from Daily Designs. I wondered what pattern I'd end up with if I rotated the circle through 360 degrees....

Voila!

This pattern reminds me of one Christmas as a kid when I went crazy over my new toy: Spirograph! Did you ever have one of these? I used to make so many patterns with that baby and pin them on my pinboard to admire :)

If you're a visual learner, then here's a peek at how I stamped that image:

(Click for a larger image)

Spirograph, stamping stylee! I like it! :)

Over to Caryn...

Well I decided to go punchy with my card and broke open my Raspberry Fizz patterned papers and paired them with the Aqua Mist ones.  It was a simple case of punching circles from different papers and then layering them up to give this scalloped effect.  I die cut the letter from the block alphabet die and adhered them to a strip of AM card stock and that was it.

Here's Kate: "I had a real urge to stamp a circle background for my card so used my Mehndi Medallion set - technically some of them aren't true circles but hey! I'm loving this combination of Melon Berry, Aqua Mist and Harvest Gold!"

Challenge - Wonderful Wildlife

Greetings all and welcome to another challenge here on A Passion for Papertrey!

So after a long winter spring is finally here! We think one of the most beautiful things about spring is seeing nature emerge from the depths of winter - just looking out the window I can see tulips blossoming, and birds making their nests. So for this challenge we'd like you to join us in taking inspiration for our creativity from wildlife - be it flowers, trees, leaves, butterflies, birds.... the list is endless!!

Looking through my stamps I realised I had never inked up the fern and dragonfly images from the Masculine Motifs set, so I soon remedied that using a Hawai'in Shores and Simply Chartreuse colour combo - I know we waited a while for the new PTI inks but I still smile when they stamp out so beautifully!

Card details: (PTI unless otherwise stated)
Stamps: Masculine Motifs/Fillable Frames 1
Ink: Hawai'in Shores/Smokey Grey/Simply Chartreuse
Card: Stamper's Select White/Hawai'in Shores
Other: Gems (Hero Arts)/Fillable Frames 1 Die

Over to Caryn:

I have rediscovered my love of acetate recently so found myself reaching for it again on this card. I thought it added to the light and airy feel with those butterflies fluttering around! I love this colour combo - it's one I always associate with Betsy Veldman - my idol!! I struggled to fit a sentiment on to this card but in the end thought it would look cute with a teeny "Happy Birthday" from Wonderfully Whimsical (the perfect fit!).

{Recipe}
Stamps: Butterfly Dreams, Wonderfully Whimsical
CS: Raspberry Fizz, Aqua Mist, Ripe Avocado, Stampers Select
Ink: Hawaiian Shores, Raspberry Fizz, Fresh Snow
Dies: Clouds, Butterfly Dreams, Heart Border.
Other: Acetate

Aimes is a bit snowed under with work at the moment but might pop later this week with her creation - you know our Aimes - it will be worth the wait!!

"Wait up! I'm here, I'm here! Better late than never, eh?!

Card Deets: Stamps - Happy Trails (Papertrey Ink)/Card - Soft Stone, Aqua Mist, Vellum Card (Papertrey Ink)/Ink - Versamark (Tsukineko), Hawaiian Shores (Papertrey Ink), London Fog (Memento)/Accessories - Happy Trails Die (Papertrey Ink) H2O Paints (Luminere), Striped Ribbon (May Arts) Gem

For our challenge I couldn't resist inking up the set, Happy Trails and using the coordinating dragonfly die. I'm sorry that the lighting on my picture makes the sentiment difficult to read and doesn't give do the dragonfly much justice either: it sparkles so much more IRL!"

And what's the prize this time?! Well, one randomly selected winner will receive this sweet set from Papertrey:

Heart-2-Heart 1

Here are those all important deets:

* Enter as any times as you wish! All entries must contain at least one PTI product to qualify and can cater for as many different challenges as you please! (please state what is PTI as sometimes it's hard for us to see...)

* All entries must be newly created (well, new to Blogland anyways!). Please don't link to old posts that might happen to fit the brief of the challenge!!Please leave a link back to this challenge on your entry too :)

Challenge: Sweet, Sweet, Summertime

Hey Everyone!

Ready for a brand spanking new challenge here on A Passion for Papertrey? I hope so!

For the next fortnight we're thinking of summertime. Whether it's the colours you associate with summer, items associated with summer or anything else that reminds you of the sweet summertime, make a creation out of it and join in the fun!

For me, summer is the sweet long six-week holidays I get from work :) We break up next Thursday and I can't wait! When I was a kid the first week off would involve a trip to the sea-side and that's what inspired my creation:

I went with a very graphic interpretation of the sea with those chevrons LOL! I'll be off to the sea-side in Wales at some point in the holidays - you just can't beat a paddle in the sea :)

Card Deets
{Hello}
All Papertrey Ink Supplies Unless Stated
Stamps: Background Basics: Chevron Strips, Modern Basics (Sentiment)
Ink: Hawaiian Shores/Tuxedo Black (Memento Ink)
Cardstock: Lemon Tart, Stamper's Select White
Accessories: Orange Zest Vintage Buttons/Fine Line Black Pen (Letraset)/Chompy! (Corner Chomper - We R Memory Keepers)

Over to Kate: "Another CAS card from me - this time a bright invite to a summer party, I'm imagining a fun pool party except I don't have a pool!"

Stamps: A Day at the Beach, Polka Dot Basics
Card: Stamper's Select White, Hawai'in Shores
Ink: Raspberry Fizz, Hawai'in Shores, Memento Tuxedo Black
Other: Raspberry Fizz ribbon, nestabilities

Over to Caryn:
Nothing says "Summer" to me more than Wimbledon - it kicks off the season for me and although my beloved Roger Federer didn't do all that well this year I still managed to catch a few matches and enjoyed the tournament immensely. As a wee nod to my favourite sporting even of the year I have made a card using the strawberry die and stamp set (Fruit Fusion: Strawberry). With a touch of lace and the gingham at the bottom (reminds me of pots of jam and picnics!!) this card does make me feel jolly summery.

{Recipe}
Stamps: Fruit Fusion: Strawberry, Background Basics: Gingham, Turning a New Leaf and Round And Round.
Ink: Pure Poppy, Spring Moss, Berry Sorbet
Patterned Paper: Pink Patterns Collection (for the scalloped strip)
Other: Lace trim, Strawberry die, medium scalloped border die, red gingham ribbon.

So are we feeling the summertime vibe? I hope so! Now before you come and jump in the pool of creativity with us - check out what one randomly selected European Peep could win:

CHALLENGE: It's Elementary!

Hello PTI fans and welcome to a new challenge over here at APFP. We're talking EARTH, WIND, AND FIRE {and water}! Yes, we want to see you include something to do with one of the four elements earth, air, fire and water. This can be incorporated in any way and PTI have TONS of stamp sets and dies that could fit in with this theme - even just a sentiment could be used (as in my example!!).

You Rock (get it? ROCK!!)

Card recipe {You Rock}:
Stamps: Boy Basics: Rock On; Grunge Me, Fillable Frames#4.
Ink: Smokey Shadow, Pure Poppy, Versamark.
Cardstock: Smokey Shadow, Stampers select white.
Other: Saddle Stich ribbon, FF#4 die, Guitar die, staples.

I used an A2 card base of Smokey Shadow card and die cut the Fillable Frame #4 shape from white and stamped it in Smokey Shadow ink. The sentiment is from BB: Rock On and is stamped in Pure Poppy with one of the Grunge Me elements. The guitar from Boy Basics: Rock On was stamped again in Smokey Shadow with a little detail added with a red ProMarker. The card base was stamped with two other elements from Grunge Me to give a bit of interest to the background and a strip of red saddle stitch ribbon was placed across the card and stapled at one end (to emphasize the rocker theme!). The focal point was then popped on to the card to one side using foam pads.
Caryn x

Over to Kate: " As I rummaged through my PTI stamps I stumbled upon my Scattered Showers set, I haven't used it much recently and thought it fitted the bill for this challenge - water! Also very topical given the amount of rain we've had recently! I made a real effort to get away from my normal colour combos, although a touch of Aqua Mist has slipped in there!"

Card Recipe:
Stamps: Scattered Showers
Ink: Ripe Avocado/Memento Tuxedo Black
Card: Kraft/ Ripe Avocado/ Stamper's Select White
Paper: 2008 & 2009 Bitty Dot Basics
Other: Corner Chomper/Ripe Avocado Twill/sewing machine/Tag Sale 2

Over to Aimes:

So which element did I go for? Well as a fiery redhead I had no choice to pick fire, right *wink*

I wanted to reflect my element mainly with my colour scheme but as luck would have it, I DID have a stamp that had a flame on it!

Card Deets
{HB 2 U}
Stamps: Around and About Sentiments, Birthday Bash Sentiments (Papertrey Ink)
Ink: Pure Poppy, Melon Berry, Orange Zest, Lemon Tart (Papertrey Ink)/Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Cardstock: True Black, Stamper's Select White (Papertrey Ink)
Accessories: Baker's Twine (Papertrey Ink)/Crystal Stickles (Ranger)/Chompy! (Corner Chomper - We R Memory Keepers)

It's a very graphic card with gradient stamping to reflect the look of flames. You might not see on the pic, but my flaming candles have added sparkle too :)

And now our lovely June featured stamper, Moe

Hi everyone!! I am so excited to be playing along with the Passion Ladies this month :) I am an ELEMENTary teacher so I had to giggle at the play on words.

The element I've chosen is "air." Maybe that's because we've just finished studying matter in my grade two classroom and one of the favourite experiments was blowing bubbles outside :) I was first thinking hot air balloons, but the Postmarks set has been sitting on my desk waiting to be inked up. It was like it was whispering "air mail" to me. THEN I thought it would make a fun birthday card for any dear friend who lived far away (shhhhh, you don't know anyone like that do you?). I cut the rustic cream panel to the size I wanted to use, then took out some stamps and laid them down to get a feel for size and mix of fonts and images. Then I stamped using a light gray. After, I took the "urgent" stamp and stamped it a few times randomly...love that look. I added the sweet little Love Lives Here butterfly stamped with the coordinating image, added some fun distressed dots paper and, of course, my beloved berry sorbet ribbon. I picked a bold sentiment from Big Birthday Wishes and added some bling.

Now that I think of it, there's a bit of irony with this card...our Canadian Postal workers are on strike right now (ugh!). They are on a rotating strike, though, so mail is moving, just a little more slower than before.

Can't wait to see what you all come up with!!

So what can you win this time around?

A fabulous Fillable Frames#8 stamp set.

Awesomely Autumnal

After being all 'squared out' with out last challenge, I hope you've got enough mojo left for this fortnight's challenge!

For this challenge we want you to be inspired by the season of Autumn. I myself will confess that autumn is my favourite time of the year - I adore the colours, wrapping up for walks in the bright sunshine, collecting conkers and of course, the yummy comfort food too!

But don't restrict yourself to these things only - you can use holidays such as Halloween for your autumnal inspiration or anything else you can think of!

For my example I didn't find inspiration from the wet and windy autumn that's occurring outside my window right now, that's NOT inspiring me at all! I instead, focused on the colours of autumn and the beautiful colours of autumnal leaves:

Card Deets
{Thank You}
All PTI Supplies Unless Stated
Stamps: Turning a New Leaf/Round and Round
Ink: Pure Poppy/Dark Chocolate
Cardstock: Dark Chocolate
Patterned Paper: Dotty Biscotti
Accessories: Fine Linen Grosgrain Ribbon/Jute Ribbon Twine/Autumn Mix Vintage Buttons/Fiskars Apron Lace Border Punch

Over to Kate:

"While we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in the UK, I've always thought it such a wonderful autumnal celebration so I took this opportunity to make a thankful card for a dear friend in America. It also meant I could use my fabulous new leaf dies!"

Recipe:
Stamps: Leaf Prints/Rustic Branches
Card: Kraft/Vintage Cream/Ripe Avocado/Terracotta Tile
Ink: Spring Moss/Ripe Avocado/Dark Chocolate/Memento Black
Ribbon: Ripe Avocado
Other: Leaf Dies/Distressing tool

And as our featured stamper for October , here's Debby's take on the challenge with not one, but two inspirational cards!

"Well autumn is definitely here. The days are darker, the weather grey ........ but leaves are crisp and crunchy and colours are rich and bright. I have two autumn themed cards today and first up is a Halloween one. Where I live Halloween is a big deal; the houses are decorated, everyone dresses up, all the neighbours participate and we have lots of visitors from dusk until late. It's a lovely time of year with a great party atmosphere. This year I wanted to send a few Halloween greetings to my friends and neighbours. I used Halloween tags on this card. I wanted to keep the card bright and cheerful, so went with plenty of colour with just a touch of black to make the colours pop.

Here's a close up where you can see a bit better the results of the swiss dot embossing folder on the white layer.

Next up is an autumn card of a different theme. As anyone knows who drops by my blog (www.limedoodle.blogspot.com) regularly - I do looove leaves! I cut out some leaves from possibly my favourite set - Turning a New Leaf and glittered them until they sparkled so beautifully. It reminds me of the frosts that we are just starting to get in the mornings.

I cut some harvest gold felt with a mat stack 1 die then added the leaves and sentiment with lots of dimensionals before finishing off with an aqua mist bow. Boy, the felt and layers add a lovely depth to the card.

I hope you enjoy this challenge as much as I have and make the most of all autumn has to offer before our attention is all too quickly diverted to the next big holiday on the calendar."
