Applique Bee

My applique bee met for the last time this year and I just wanted to share some of their AMG blocks and some of their quilts. Enjoy! Check out Pam's and Lena's AMG blocks too.
The blocks with the blue background were made by Ellen H.
These three blocks were made by Beverly.
Look how many beautiful blocks Jane got done this year.
These red ones were made by Shelia.
Yeah for Patti! She got all her blocks and borders done. When I talked to her last she had the top put together. The goal was to get 12 blocks done and she did it and more. You go girl!
Look at this lovely top made by Suzie. Check out the close up to see her ruched flowers.
These last three quilts were made by Ellen F. Great quilts Ellen.

This year I was trying to do the Red Delicious BOM. I got way behind but I would still go over and read Esther's blog. She does fabulous work and I won a giveaway on her blog. I don't have anything to show because it was a fabulous PDF file for a stenciled quilt pattern. You can see a picture of it here. Thanks Esther!

Giveaway win! and new blogger!

Look at the colors of these trees in my own yard. Aren't they just so beautiful?
I got a package in the mail the other day from Carol because she was feeling generous that day and drew a second name in her giveaway. I was the other winner.
She sent me two charm packs which was a surprise and I love the colors of the fabrics. Some German Chocolate Coffee which I am going to save for when I have company next month.
And look at this fabulous pumpkin towel she made. I just love the pumpkins and the rick rack on the black fabric. So very pretty. Thanks so much Carol.
When you have a minute go on over and welcome Diane to blogging. She just started blogging this month and she is already having a giveaway.

Enjoy your fall where ever you may be.

Last Day of Mountain Trip

Monday was the last day of our day in the mountains. We went and ate breakfast at the Morning Glory Cafe again. They serve a great breakfast, much better than a fast food place. After we ate breakfast we arrived at the Asheville Cotton Co. just as they opened. I bought some fabric and three Homespun Magazines. They had a ton of fabric. Here are a few pictures of the inside of their store. Lots of pretty fabrics to choose.

We left Asheville and headed north to the town of Burnsville. We were going to see one particular quilt shop and found this one. So I went in and checked it out. I just bought a stencil that had 3 different size birds on it.
Check out this mural that was next door to this quilt shop. Almost looks like you could drive down the road.
Mitchell County and Yancey County have a quilt block trail. Burnsville is located in Yancey County. Different buildings have different blocks on them. I took pictures of a few of them.

This pretty block called Silver Threads and Golden Needles was on the front porch of the quilt shop called Needle Me This. This was the shop I was looking for. Their shop was featured in the Better Homes and Gardens Quilt Sampler magazine. That is how I found out about them.
Here are some pictures of their shop. Very pretty.

Here is the Pineapple Friendship Star on the Yancy County Chamber of Commerce Building.

While we were in Burnsville we also went into the Town Hall building and saw a 24 feet wide quilt hanging on the wall done by Barbara Webster. You can read about it and see it here. There are 1,310 photos of Yancey county and it shows the four season. It really is a neat quilt to see. I took pictures but I didn't want to put pictures up because of copyrights.
After we left Burnsville we got on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is a picture of the viaduct. We drove on to Blowing Rock, ate dinner and headed on home. We really had a great time. But it was good to be home too.

Here are all the goodies I got on my travels. Some are from the quilt shops and some are from antique stores that we stopped to visit too.

Last Sunday in the Mountains

Sunday morning it was cold and as we were traveling down the highway to go eat some breakfast at the Morning Glory Cafe, we looked toward the mountains. Take a look at what we saw. Snow! We have seen snow where we live but we haven't ever seen the high elevations of the mountains with snow on them.
Our plan after breakfast was to drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway and go to Mt. Mitchell which is off the parkway. We stopped at the Folk Art Center which is on the parkway. The Folk Art Center is a visitor center full of crafts of different artists that are for sale. There are always great quilts hanging too but you are not allowed to take pictures of the crafts. As we walked in the door my husband spotted Her first. It was Georgia Bonesteel. I was so excited because she has had quilt shows on our Public Broadcasting TV Station. My husband was excited for me because he has seen her shows too and knew that I enjoyed watching them. I think I have seen all her shows and I guess you could call her my mentor. I really don't know how many years she had a television show but it was a lot. We got to talk to her for a couple minutes and she let us take her picture. You can read more about her at www.georgiabonesteel.com
I made a quilt using Georgia's lap quilting technique. You can read about it here and here.

After we left the Folk Art Center we headed down the parkway and it was closed further down the road. The parkway had been closed where Mt. Mitchell was because of snowy weather. So we turned around and went into downtown Asheville to a craft show at the civic center. After we left the craft show we stopped to get dinner and headed back to the conference center. Even though our plans were changed a little we still had a good day.

When we would come back from our travels we would sit at the fireplace that was in the center foyer of our building. While sitting there we would meet some people and talk with them but most of the time it was just the two of us sitting at the fireplace. My husband would read and I brought some embroidery. I finished the first Sweet Nostalgia block designed by Dorothy Baker. I reduced my block and colored it with crayons before I did the embroidery. I am very pleased with how it looks. Now I am ready to start number 2.

The next post will be the last one about our trip.

Antique Quilts

Our stay in Asheville was a really good time. We stayed at Lifeway Ridgecrest Conference Center which is in Black Mountain. When we arrived at Ridgecrest on Friday it was cool, rainy, and chilly. Friday night and Saturday morning was spent in a conference our church was having. After lunch we drove to Hendersonville, which is south of Asheville to an Antique Show and Tea. There were 80 antique quilts all in one place. There were tables set up all decorated with a fall theme and for the price of admission you could see the quilts, have coffee or tea and cake or pie. I thought it was a neat concept. Here are some of the quilts.

After the show my husband took me to this shop called My Quilt Shoppe. There was a lot of nice fabric in this shop. I got to visit some other shops too and I will show you all my goodies later.

More about our trip to come.

Quilt Show

Last weekend my husband and I went to the Asheville area in the mountains of North Carolina. On our way there we stopped in Hickory to see the Catawba Valley Quilters Guild show. Here are just a few of them for your viewing pleasure.

This quilt won Best Applique in the show and it was made by Mary Jo G.
