Hey Kids! Cigarettes!

Wednesday Advertising Day.

I showed more of this cigaret ad series, bit this seems to be in a slightly different style. Still, there is enough Dik Browne inspired faces and plenty of non Browne stuff to make me think this could be by Gill Fox. Someone should go to the Reynolds company and seee if they have any records of all the comic strip ads they had made of their various cigarette brands.

Striking A Light

Wednesday Advertising Day.

This strip ad series ran for a short time in the mid fifties. The later ones look as if Bub Bugg was involved, but here t has more of a Bill Williams/Dik Brown vibe. Happy Joe Lucky. I wonder where he is now...

I once suggested to an American publisher that we could do a book on how cigarette companies (especially Reynolds) subsedized huge parts of popular culture, from radio to television to comics. He said: "And afterwards we're gonna do a book on the good the Nazi's have done?"

This article sort of supports my basic statement, though.

J.B/M.F.R

Wednesday Advertising Day.

I just love the Jack Benny radio show. So I couldn't resist this.

To make this about comics a little bit, I am reposting a comic strip ad he appeared in.
