Birmingham, AL-based band Vulture Whale had their beginnings as an earlier aggregation, Wes McDonald & the Fizz. McDonald (of the Ohms), playing with Lester Nuby (of Verbena), Keelan Parrish, and Jake Waitzman, eventually decided that they were a band of equals and not a leader with a backup group -- hence the change of name. With that, they recorded a self-titled debut album released in 2007. In February 2009, the band released its sophomore (and also self-titled) album on Skybucket Records.
