The second full-length outing from Dhani Harrison (son of late Beatle George Harrison) and Oliver Hecks finds the London-based, electro-laced ambient alt-pop duo expanding to a sextet. The resulting Thefearofmissingout, which derives its moniker from the Internet-age psychological affliction of the same name, takes its cue from like-minded genre hoppers like DJ Shadow and Massive Attack. Recorded in Los Angeles and London, and produced by Harrison and Paul Hicks, Thefearofmissingout utilizes elements of dubstep, trip-hop, indie rock, and electro-pop, and features guest appearances from Ben Harper, Throunn Antonia (Fields), Holly Marilyn (the Child), and Wu-Tang Clan's RZA.

Comprised of multi-instrumentalists Dhani Harrison (son of late Beatle George Harrison) and Oliver Hecks, London-based duo Thenewno2 (pronounced "the new number two") successfully blend the late-period experimental pop of the Fab Four with the ambient electronics of Brian Eno and the layered beats of Massive Attack. Formed in 2006, the band released its debut EP, EP001 (featuring vocalist Amanda Butterworth), the following year. A full-length debut, You Are Here, arrived in 2008, followed by 2011's EP002 and another full-length, 2012's Thefearofmissingout, the latter of which found the group expanding into a sextet.

George Harrison’s son Dhani obviously has some of the biggest shoes imaginable to fill (second only maybe to poor Sean Lennon), and he’s wisely decided to avoid the whole problem by following his own modern muse. Thenewno2, Harrison’s project with multi-instrumentalist Oliver Hecks, features the same spirit of experimentation that delighted dad, but the similarities stop there. Dhani’s voice is as much Elliott Smith as George, and the skittering beats and synths owe more to English trip-hop acts and electronic pioneers than to classic rock. Nonetheless, songs like “Crazy Tuesday” that skew a little closer to pop carry echoes of breezy psychedelia.
