What do you get when you take the drummer from Blackfoot, the guitarist from Molly Hatchet, the guitarist from The Rossington Band (who also toured with Lynyrd Skynyrd), and the bassist/guitarist from The Lester Chambers Group (Chambers Brothers Band), who also studied and played with Mountain's Leslie West? You get The Southern Rock Allstars, a super group that has been touring and playing the "greatest hits" of their respective former bands for several years, but have now created a debut album of original music that could single-handedly bring about the return of Southern Rock to the mainstream of the music industry. Jakson Spires, Jay Johnson, Dave Hlubek and Pete Geddes deliver powerful rockers like "Traveller," "Train of Sorrow," "Dreaming," and the title track, "Crazy Again," balanced with some smooth ballads, "Knight in Shining Armor," and "Better Off Alone." The songs were all written by the band, with Spires either writing or co-writing each of the eleven tracks, including a co-writing credit for the first track with Ricky Medlocke (Blackfoot/Lynyrd Skynyrd). Although there is obviously influence here from the great Southern Rock band of their pasts, The Southern Rock Allstars have created a fresh product here, with a totally original sound for the new century. Don't expect Molly Hatchet and don't expect Blackfoot. Expect the unexpected. It's rock and roll with a Southern accent, tight harmonies, catchy melodies and balls to the wall drums, bass and guitar. Hey, it's only rock and roll, but I like it, love it, yes I do.
