ABOUT
By Amazon.co.uk
This is a very significant release from the renowned British guitarist Gordon Giltrap, who has been an established and respected figure on the international music scene for over forty years. Playing both acoustic and electric guitars, Gordons music transcends the genres, encompassing folk, folk/rock, progressive rock, blues and pure pop, his virtuosity always matched by accessibility and musicality. He established his reputation in the late 60s playing on the London scene alongside the likes of Bert Jansch, Jonh Renbourn and Mike Oldfield, and came to prominence with his 70s albums, notably the chart album Perilous Jorney, from which came the single Heartsong which made No. 21 in the UK chart, followed up by his second hit Fear Of The Dark from the album of the same name. Heartsong was used for many years by BBC TV as the title music for their Holiday programme. Gordon has compiled this 4-CD retrospective, as well as writing the substantial booklet notes, giving an insight into the background of his music from his own standpoint. It is a thoroughly absorbing, enjoyable and listenable collection, and is naturally a marvellous showcase for his unique talent and technique.

Gordon Giltrap was born in 1948 in the U.K. and began playing guitar in the '60s, his career beginning to happen before the end of that decade. He released two albums in that era -- 1968's self-titled and 1969's Portrait. In the early '70s he kept busy by releasing Accolade in 1970 and A Testament of Time the following year. In 1973, he hooked up in a duo called Giltrap Philips, releasing an album of the same name. His next solo album came in the instrumental work Visionary, released in 1976. By the time the follow-up, Perilous Journey, saw the light of day in 1977, Giltrap was working under the moniker of Gordon Giltrap Group. The following year Fear of the Dark was released and in 1995 Giltrap released Music for the Small Screen, a collection of his television soundtrack work. The album includes appearances by Brian May (Queen) and Rick Wakeman (Yes). His next album was Troubador.
