Delivering a lively and tuneful fusion of rock & roll and vintage power pop informed by the British Invasion and garage rock sounds of the mid-'60s, the Connection were formed in 2011 by two music fans from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Geoff Palmer and Brad Marino, both of whom played guitar and sang. Palmer had previously played with the Queers, the Nobodys, and the Guts, while Marino was a member of Way to Go. After discovering they had similar musical ideas, Palmer and Marino began writing songs together and cut the first Connection demo before they put together a full lineup, using drums loops to take the place of their absent drummer. The first proper lineup of the Connection featured Marino on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Palmer on lead guitar and backing vocals, Andy Casey on bass, and Chris Faulkner on drums. In the fall of 2011, the Connection released their first EP, New England's Newest Hitmakers, with a Christmas single. In 2012, Andy Casey left the group and was replaced by bassist and backing vocalist Bobby Davis; Chris Faulkner also dropped out of the lineup, and Zack Sprague became the Connection's new drummer, with Rick Orcutt and Craig Sala occasionally sitting in when Sprague isn't available. In March 2012, the Connection released another EP, 7 Nights to Rock, which included guest keyboardist Kris "Fingers" Rodgers, who would soon become a full member of the group. The second Connection EP also garnered airplay on Little Steven Van Zandt's Underground Garage radio show, where the title tune earned the weekly "Coolest Song in the World" prize; Van Zandt would become an outspoken fan of the group, declaring "the Connection gets it." A band not afraid to stay busy, the Connection released six singles and EPs in 2012 and 2013, and opened for the Flamin' Groovies, the Muffs, the Real Kids, and Mark Lindsay before the group dropped their first full-length album, Let It Rock, in June of that year. A Christmas Gift for You was released in 2014.
