ABOUT THE ALBUM
By David Farrell, newcanadianmusic.ca
Brothers Brian and Dick Cooper have a colourful story to tell with this group that got its start when Les Emmerson was a force to reckon with in the nation's capital, and had its high life when actively scouted and signed by Capricorn Records when the Macon GA label had the cream of the crop of Southern Rock. There's been sporadic revivals since that deal ended in the mid '80s but the Coops' have always returned with a great road show, and smart sounding songs framed by great vocal harmonies. The magic is alive again on "Southbound", a story song about Canadian winters and its also the title track from a new album promised in April. The Coops today are a 7-piece playing occasional showcase rooms, festivals and soft seaters. It follows In From the Cold released in 2010 with Jim Cuddy, Delbert McClinton and Chuck Leavell on board.
