Surprisingly not from Texas, Alamo is the sole album by this group of Tennessee rockers. With a Southern take on a psych/blues/hippy hard rock sound, along with some cool Hammond organ-grinding by gruff vocalist Ken Woodley, the 1971 album features eight solid cuts, including “Bensome Changes”, the driving “Question Raised”, “The World We Seek”, and “Got to Find Another Way”.
Guitarist Larry Raspberry (ex-The Gentrys) does some great work throughout and went on to a solo career. Drummer Richard Rosebrough would contribute to Big Star’s third album and work with that band’s Alex Chilton and Chris Bell on their early solo projects, joining organist/singer Woodley on the latter’s I Am the Cosmos.
