**** / *****
This album contains complex structures, concise songs, and a great epic (the 26-minute song "Feast of Fools"). In the past, the band was often considered to be a sort of Genesis clone, but in this CD, the band has created their own sound. Ageness has produced a well-crafted piece of neo-prog that can be summarized as '80s Rush meets early Marillion. The album has been supported by the Foundation for the Promotion of Finnish Music (LUSES) and (ESEK) in Finland.

The story of Ageness starts in 1983 with the band Scarab, where Tommy Eriksson and Kari Saaristo played together. Scarab made a self-financed debut album in the same year and rapidly split up. Sometimes, they met each other and made some jam sessions and sometimes talked of a reunion.
In 1991, they decided to go further than just talk. So Eriksson and Saaristo recruited two friends, Jari Ukkonen and Vesa Auvinen, to form a totally new band called Ageness. The band released their first single in 1992 and soon after that, keyboardist Jari Laasanen joined. 1993 would be a special year for the band: They played in front of 10,000 people at Kaivari Open Air Concert in Helsinki Festivals.
Luck seems to be beside the band in the following years. They headlined the 1996 Colossus Prog Festival, gaining an impressive amount of critical acclaim. Guitarist Marko Karhu joined the band in 1997. Also in this year, the Finnish Broadcasting Company's FST did a 16-minute TV special, Imageness, including the songs "Line of Force" and "Metamorphosis" from their forthcoming new album. The French label Musea Records was very impressed and offered a worldwide license deal and released Imageness in 1998.
In 1998, two big things happenined in the band's career: An official promo video, Fear, for their new album was released in the summer of 1998 and they also played at the Stoa/Colossus Prog Concert with John Wetton and Ritual from Sweden.
MORE AGENESS

AGENESS was formed in Helsinki in 1991 by Tommy Eriksson (Flute, vocals) and Kari Saaristo (Drums & percussion) from the ruins of a very good band called SCARAB formed by a bunch of school kids who self produced an album and were only able to release 180 copies.
With Vesa Auvinen (guitars), Jari Laasanen (Keyboards, Backing vocals) and Jari Ukkonen in the Bass, they release in 1992 their debut album called "Showing Paces" which apart from the obvious GENESIS references, presents a hard edge with some resemblances of RUSH.
The 90's was a very active decade for the band and in 1995 they release their second album "Rituals" with a more evident Neo Prog sound closer to Marillion and IQ but without leaving their original influences behind.
The next year, the band re-releases SCARAB, this time with some AGENESS tracks recorded on stage.
In 1998 the band releases "Imageness" with Marko Karhu replacing Vesa Auvinen in the guitars, this album represents a return to the roots or more clearly to the borderline that divides Symphonic from Neo Prog.
AGENESS has not released a single album since 1998, but this doesn't mean they have been inactive; they have played in several Festivals and toured with some regularity. Mixing their own music with some Rush and Peter Gabriel covers..
According to an interview with Tommy Eriksson, the are working on a new album this time with Vesa Auvinen who has returned to the band, sadly this interview has some years and still there are no news this release.
Good band for Genesis fans and also for those who like Neo Prog with a hard edge.
